Maybe six or seven years ago there was this song used in some fancy car commercial which was for a more upscale vehicle, I think a Cadillac or Lexus. It is only a single guitar, with a very dark and jangly tone, playing four dissonant chords over and over again. No drums, no bass (I think) no vocals. I heard it again a year or two ago at a party and recalling it was some song from a rock or grunge band, but of course due to my inebriation I don't remember the title. I can't find anything that matched. Google hasn't helped, and I don't know where else to turn besides a bunch of metalheads/people that might have an extensive knowledge of music in general. It's got to be at least decently well known because It was in that commercial and then in someone's playlist, but I cannot be sure I know who wrote it or what time frame it's from.

Here's my best imitation (the chords are obviously wrong, and the actual song is a little bit slower.)

No, it isn't Mother. It's literally just four chords. Very minimalist. I don't know if the whole song is like that or not.

I have no idea about the song you're interested in but I'd like to say those demo tracks you have up were pretty solid. I'd like to hear them with some vocals, if that's your band I'll be paying attention.

Errmm I guess I should ask which band they were demo tracks for since you apparently have three...

 what a terrible feeling

it does sound a lot like that song aaron posted - which, by the way, i've never heard - pretty sweet actually.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's not Danzig guys.

It's also literally just four chords. There are no drums. I don't know if the whole song is like that, but there is at least a minute's worth of intro that sounds exactly like the link I posted. They're the type of chords where the same note rings out, and only one or two actually change.

@Erosion of Humanity: Thanks. Those tracks are mostly never going to be used, however two of them were re-recorded for a solo demo called Bulletface. You can see all my actual stuff on the archives.

I found this maybe a year ago and it sounds similar to what you made, even darker. I know it's not what you're looking for, but I think you'd enjoy it.

I'm pretty sure I've heard Local H on a few different commercials over the years, and they're grungy in the way you described:

Unlikely that this particular song of theirs would be used, but you might recognize the tone and whatnot.

This is going to sound a bit strange but I'm sure I'm actually after the same song and have been for years too.

Seeing as that I believe I'm after the same song, I'll add my background and more I think that will help people.

I heard this song on two occasions actually, both on a local rock station, that's why I think it must be somewhat well known as this certain station will not play unknown songs, also it will be from the time frame of 1980 - 2007 as this radio station doesn't play songs older than that very often, there's a local classic oldies station here for that.
I'm sure it's quite a long song as well, from what I remember it's at least over 6 minutes.
There's no vocals I know for sure but there could be drums and from what I remember, I'm pretty sure it's just an acoustic guitar and the notes ring out with two strung at the same time and about a good 5 seconds in between notes.

Although it seems quite simple (I'm sure it is from what I remember), as he mentioned too, it's actually quite dark and gave me serious chills when I first heard it.

The worst part is I heard this song well over 10 years now and I feel the more the time goes on, the less I'll remember about it. :(
