Hey, sorry if this is a repost... something weird happened and I think my earlier post got eaten.

To try to sum up the original post, I am wondering if anyone's ever stored digipaks in nice, thick sandwich bags for an extended period of time, and how well they've fared.

I've used them for makeshift 7" dust jackets in the past, and they seem to work really well, but I have some concerns that perhaps they could have some weird chemical that can degrade papers stored in them over a very long period of years.

I know they make dust sleeves for digipaks, but I'm not interested in shelling out for 50+ of those when I already try to avoid digipaks as it is, plus I can't just buy them at any grocery store. Please don't waste your time pointing this out to me. I'm only interested in buying these if sandwich bags are not a safe alternative for long term storage.

Yup, I used them when I moved and kept the digipaks in them since. No real wear or tear yet - so I'm willing to say that it's totally fine.

I don't know why I didn't think of using that. I always had a slew of dust sleeves from some places that packed even the jewel cased cds in them. I just reused them on the unprotected digis I had.

Huh, that sounds like a good idea actually. Might have to give that a try.

You learn something new everyday. This is going to save me a lot of money.

As far as wear and tear, I know I've kept sheets of paper in ziplock bags to avoid water damage or dirt when storing them for a long time, and I've never noticed any degradation through the years. By "thick" I assume you mean those heavy duty freezer bags, which is what I'd want to use personally. I'm not sure how chemically different they would be to keep them more durable in colder temperatures, so that's something to look into.

and yes, I was thinking about the thick plastic freezer bags... the word "freezer" just didn't really come to mind as I was typing the OP.

It'll be nice to finally have a better way to store my card sleeve CD's, too.

If you are looking for extra protection wrap your digipak in saran wrap and place it in a sandwich bag. Good way to keep your metal extra fresh.
