Sounds like an interesting little time sink. Lemme try: someone find the shortest path to get me from Wormphlegm to Wormed.

Try to get from Thin Lizzy to Devourment then :D (though I think it's possible).

I got there in ten steps, using a backdoor route through a band with multiple genres:
Spoiler: show
1. Deep Purple
2. Judas Priest
3. Mercyful Fate
4. Satan's Host
5. God Dethroned
6. Morbid Angel
7. Nile
8. Suffocation
9. Defeated Sanity
10. Devourment

Let's hope this little game indirectly inspires users to make more use of the voting feature. ;)

Rhapsody to Type O Negative :D

Edit: nevermind, fairly short because of the Nightwish connection and "gothic" metal  let's try Rhapsody to Burzum haha.

Ah. Didn't see that.

By the way, Black Strip is such a stupid name for a band.

That's impressive to think that Rhapsody and Burzum are that closely related in any aspect...

My Nocturnal Rites to Vintersorg was much easier than I thought it would be:

Nocturnal Rites > Persuader > Wuthering Heights > Falconer > Vintersorg

I just tried - took me a while but got there in 8 (or 9, depending on whether you count the first one):
Rhapsody → Blind Guardian → Running Wild → Saxon → Motörhead → Venom → Hellhammer → Darkthrone → Burzum

I tried a few times, but always another one was faster...

Anyway, try Gamma Ray to Disembowelment (I got it in seven steps)

This actually has to do with band member connections and whatnot.
So to feel as if I'm participating, how about Pestilence to Warning?

So the lesson learned here is that there's no more than eight degrees of separation between any two metal bands?

That site also told me that Tomas Lindberg played on a Brittany Spears album, so I'm not really in the business of trusting its information. I know it's just an information screw up as there really is a Swedish session musician named Tomas Lindberg that played on that album, but still.

@ Subrick, here's a link with eight steps:

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats → Black Sabbath → Dio → Saxon → Motörhead → Venom → Slayer → Sadus → Ripping Corpse

l suck at this game haha, a shameful 12. I was disappointed I couldn't get straight into death/doom from Cathedral based off the debut, or even better go straight to Napalm Death thanks to Lee Dorian (I've seen the SA function used this poorly in the past).

I wanna see somebody go from Dream Theater to Lymphatic Phlegm.

Also, it's funny how this game has sort of pointed out what bands are best for bridging genres - e.g. Disembowelment can move you from death/doom to Incantation-styled DM, Venom is a good NWOBHM/thrash converter, Dio is good for converting from doom to more traditional speed metal, etc.

Dream Theater > James Labrie > Soilwork > Arch Enemy > Carcass > Pathologist > Lymphatic Phlegm|

Not so bad, just 6 steps. Fun form of abstract path thinking yeah. I liked seeing how other, smarter people went on the Uncle Acid to Ripping Corpse one. I went to doom, to death/doom, to Florida death, while the people who gots 7s and 8s went heavy, to thrash, the death/thrash.

Edit: I'd like to see Moss to Hellwitch. Changed because Munn has no similars.

Nine steps, not too shabby.

The best way to make this game harder is to find little "pocket" scenes that have very little connection to anything outside. Like this: somebody get me from Bone Awl to Waking the Cadaver. (Hint: you'll most likely have to go through Ildjarn.)
