With enough volume it's certainly not boring for me. Poor execution? The production is/was quite different and takes a few spins. Songwriting isn't amazing, but the vibe of Loveless is. There are other Shoegaze albums i can throw on that have better songs. Overrated/over hyped? Yes. Still every time i listen to that album i can't turn it off.

Trust me, I've spun it enough to make a judgment. Initially I was floored by the sheer amazing, but every time I came back to it, it seemed less and less powerful and evocative. There are a couple of songs I still listen to.

Turbonegro - Apocalypse Dudes
Just fantastic punk rock n roll. Catchy, driving, powerful... their best record and a masterpiece.

ZEKE - Death Alley
Ludicrously underrated/unknown band. Rock and roll played at 1000 mph with naaaaaasty solos and catchy as shit songwriting. My favorite band of all time.

Bad Brains - s/t
Hardcore the way it's meant to be done. A visceral, raging, powerhouse of riffs and aggression. The reggae breaks are like the eye of a tornado passing over... moments of calm before the storm bombards you again. This was the album that made me want to play fast as shit.

You seem cool.

Really, any of Bad Religion's albums until The Grey Race were phenomenal.

Biohazard - Urban Discipline
There's definitely some metal influence in there but to me it's mostly hardcore, and one of my favourite albums of all time.

The Pogues - Rum Sodomy and the Lash
Flogging Molly - Swagger

Both fantastic folk albums, with varying degrees of punk influence - I got into folk/folk-punk before I got into metal.

I don't know, it's pretty different from their first and third album, and I haven't listened to their second for a while.

I don't like much else by them, with the exception of their older hits but I do enjoy Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik, start to finish. Thinks its great album, and most of the stuff has a energy about it. It's a shame later albums they slowed down. I guess all the drugs are what fueled those guys back in the day.

There are many non-metal albums that deserve 100 %, but here are some of them:
Guns N' Roses - Appetite for Destruction: Nothing can really be said about this record that haven't already been said. Eternal classic and every single song is awesome.
Misfits - Static Age: The lyrics are like the two following Misfits records awesome. There's also this happy sound on almost any of their songs.
Misfits - Walk Among Us: More or less the same as above.
Misfits - Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood: They took a more hardcore punk-oriented sound on this one, with the songs being shorter and more aggressive.
Bad Religion - Suffer: Well, it's fast, it's aggressive and it's damn catchy!
Bad Religion - No Control: The same as above, really.
Ramones - Ramones, Leave Home, Rocket to Russia, Road to Ruin: Just put 'em all together. They are all awesome, catchy and fun albums, with loads of classic songs.

Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom

It's a trip into delusional spaces of drunkenness and psychedelic experiences like no other. The instrumentation is at times absolutly unique and the whole album flows along beautifully although at times it completly lets go of any conventional rhythmic structure. Simply otherworldly. Some people say they can't get used to the vocals, though, but I find them more than fitting.

My personal favorite:

Misfits- Walk Among Us, other than that damned first song. 20 Eyes is a fucking joke, but the rest of the album is pure ecstasy. Anybody know any good horror punk similar to Walk Among Us or Balzac's better stuff?

Edit: Despite what many say, I also really like American Psycho, also by the Misfits, but with the only original member being Jerry Only. Without the Danzigs, Jerry incorporated a lot more metal-style stuff, but its still a punk album at heart.

Heresy, The Gray Race is just as good as anything before it. I only like a few tracks on No Substance, The Empire Strikes First, and The Dissent of Man, and the only album of the 81-95 era I don't really like is Recipe for Hate (and that which shall not be named). Bad Religion is without a doubt my favorite non metal band.

That said I probably wouldn't give any a 100%, people in this thread are insanely generous. Against the Grain would probably be the closest though.

It's bizarre industrial mixed with old style show tunes from hell and Nick Cave/Tom Waits-esque vocals.

I'd also say that Thaw is a more Metal/Dark Ambient album by him (it's one guy.)

I'd certainly have to agree with you there. I always thought that they were the sort of band that would greatly appeal to many metalheads. Also, they are definitely worth seeing live if you get the chance, though they might be a bit hit and miss: first time I saw them (with Motorhead and Corrosion of Conformity) I was quite excited only to be "treated" to a wall of muddy, sloppy noise. I pretty much wrote them off after that. Then (years later) I saw them again (this time supporting the Dwarves) and wow... they were extremely fast, clear, tight and all around bad ass.

Now as far as non-metal albums that I would give 100%? I just don't know, though there are many that certainly come close...

The first one that came to mind for me is elegant gypsy by al di meola. The album is relentlessly awesome no matter which way you look at it. Every song , every note by each musician is just perfectly orchestrated. Weather it is the slow mellow moments or super shredding moments al himself proves he is not just incredibly skilled, but also a master of composition as well. With both an traditional western drum set and a guy on bongos (or whatever the hell they are called) the rhythm section is sheer madness. I found the keyboard tone sounded a bit cheesy at first but after a while i learned to accept and like it.

Not sure if I ever posted in this thread, but here's a bunch of non-metal albums that I would give 100%.

Million Dead - A Song to Ruin
Million Dead - Harmony No Harmony
Frank Turner - Sleep is for the Week
Frank Turner - England Keep My Bones
Against Me! - Against Me! is Reinventing Axl Rose
Opeth - Damnation
Skrillex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites
Empyrium - Weiland
Glassjaw - Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence
Emalkay - Crusader
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon
Mobb Deep - The Infamous
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Rush - Moving Pictures
System of a Down - Toxicity
System of a Down - Hypnotize
Ulver - Perdition City
Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come

I would give both Joy Division albums 100%, although I think Closer is slightly more 100% than Unknown Pleasures.

She's a smart business woman and was ONCE a fine 'performer', but take it from a guy that saw her live in '85. She has NEVER sung a full show live and she simply never will.

Best bass lines ever? Have you ever heard early Kool and the Gang, Sly and the Family Stone, Earth, Wind and Fire...hell, even Wings? That simply is subjective reasoning laced with personal affinity. There is simply no way she encompasses the 'best bass lines ever'.

At this point, I'd probably give more non-metal albums 100% than I would metal albums.

Fushitsusha - Live I
Keiji Haino - Affection
Suishou No Fune - Prayer for Chibi
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F♯A♯∞, Lift Yr. Skinny Fists, and Slow Riot for Zero Kanada
Swans - Soundtracks For the Blind, and maybe The Great Annihilator
Bodychoke - Cold River Songs
Caspar Brotzmann Massakar - Koksofen
Mono - You Are There

and maybe Hijokaidan's The Noise, but I've yet to listen to all 30 discs.

Well, when I first saw the thing, I laughed a bit nervously.

To clarify the nature of the thing, most of their stuff was improvised on the spot, they've been around since the late 70's, and almost every disc is a live recording. The size isn't so surprising, really. Anyway, what I've heard from it so far has been exceptional.

Hugh Laurie - Let Them Talk

Yeah, it's the guy that plays House. It's really great blues, lots of creole horns and delta guitar. It really is a great record filled with timeless classics being covered by some great musicians. Some of the best songs on the record include Six Cold Feet, Battle of Jericho and You Don't know my mind. There is also an hour long special you can find where he performs a lot of the album at a small New Orleans venue.

Now to think of it... I don't really know if any non-metal album I've listened to deserves the 100% score... Altho the metal albums rarely receive it either. My favourite non-metal artist is Zappa, but I'm afraid no album of his deserves that score, not even Joe's Garage or Hot rats, altho their score is surely over 90%.
Ulver's ambient albums are also godlike, but still I wouldn't name them "perfect".

Perhaps the only band I can think of getting the full score is Jethro Tull, with albums "Thick as a brick" and "Heavy horses". Thick as a brick is a huge, remarkable monument with every kind of moments. Beautiful, amusing, astonishing, furious... and the lyrics also touch me in a certain way as I'm quite fond of the old English.
Heavy horses also have the fantastic "old England"-feeling, but this album isn't as fast and amusing as Thick, and it shouldn't. This one here is very beautiful, peaceful and it still has wonderful arrangements (just as Brick does).

Both of those albums don't have ONE boring moments, they NEVER fail at impressing me and I can listen to them anywhere and anytime, although the best listening experiences are achieved in the evening and in the countryside.

Thick As A Brick is a great choice. Side one in particular is some of the best music I've ever heard. My other favorite of theirs is Benefit, which to me is almost perfect if not quite 100%.

Been on an old school prog phase lately, and I'm thinking that Van Der Graaf Generator's "The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other" is beyond brilliant (a 100% for sure). It's dark and apocalyptic as hell with cool lyrics and a wild theatrical delivery combined with lots of technical skill while still having a psychedelic free-flowing edge to it, unlike their more purely prog albums that came afterwards (in which a few of them are still damn good). Gloomy and spacey, I love it.

The Cure - Pornography

The Cure - Disintegration

Jeff Buckley - Grace

Imogen Heap - Speak for Yourself

Those jump to mind immediately. Bear in mind that I've never even rated a metal album 100%, so these are as close as it gets.
