I think gangsta rap is more of a musical memoir, of the experiences that the rapper has had living in the ghetto. Nazi bands however, are more of a "You should do this, you should do that", and as far as I know, they're entirely serious about it.

And alot of gangster rap isn't about "You should do this, you should do that"? It's marketed to the youth to sell an urban lifestyle, to instill the principals of spending 200 bucks on a bottle of champagne, poor it on a chicks ass, and wearing the biggest fucking 25 cent machine prize around your neck that your nearest neighborhood grocer has to offer.

It sets just as awful of an example as national socialist music. You can choose to let it dumb you down, or you can choose to take it for what it is. Just a dumbass's opinion, that coincidentally happens to produce music that is appealing to the listener.

That's a lot like how religious folks will tell you not to listen to non religious music, because it automatically corrupts you. I.E. dogma.

Smartest response. ^

Seems like PFrog's logic carries over pretty easily, just change Christian to racist/nazi/ns whatever.

Totally agree. I love NSBM but I'm no Neo Nazi. I also love The Notorious B.I.G, but I'm far from a gangster. Christians can listen to Anal Blasphemy without being bad Christians. The lyrical content can mean a lot in terms of enjoyment, but it shouldn't be grounds for judging a person. I can't say "Dillon (MalignantThrone) listens to bdm and slam so he must be some kind of psychopathic serial killer" just like me listening to bm doesn't make me a churchburnig, crucifix-bashing warrior of blasphemy.

You know, I think your right. I forgot about those sleazy music videos. They're both bad. I still think Nazism is worse, but that doesn't excuse the other.

Would you argue that the same can be said for bands like Cannibal Corpse? If you like them, you're agreeing to their ideology of murder, rape, mutilation, etc.?

Nope, you are incorrect. Cannibal Corpse lyrics are purely fantasy and they don't believe in doing the things that they preach.

Also, I think a majority of you are taking my "you are agreeing with their ideology" too seriously, I mean you on some level agree with their ideology or your apathetic to it, as someone mentioned earlier. I didn't think I'd have to explain that.

If you thought that someone would take an absolute statement as something other than that absolute statement, you might have some things left to learn about the English language.

Dude, you need to chill, it's the Internet. There is no way I can completely express how I feel through the use of words, just as there is no way you can express to me how exactly you feel. From what you just said, I could assume you were A) Trying to insult me B) Trying to be helpful or C) Trying to warn me. My point being, there are number of ways you can access what someone has typed. I made a mistake, this can happen. Before jumping to conclusions, how about asking me what I meant. If someone you know said something outlandish or off-kilter in the real world, I'd expect you to ask them what they meant before demonising them.

The problem is that you phrased it in a very strong way that made it seem as if you were not allowing for any wiggle room. It's nice that you're at least being reasonable (or backpeddling?) now, but be more conscious of what you're writing if you're so aware of how things can be misinterpreted on the internet.

Anyone else feel like they have to spend around a week or so with an album in a band's discography before moving on to the next one? If not longer, even. I feel like if I hear two albums by the same band that I haven't heard before in the space of a week they blend together in my head and I can't differentiate them from one another, and consequently remember both less than I normally would.

Absolutely. I have an unopened Primordial on my bookshelf because I neglected their discography for awhile and bought it in bulk a few months ago, but wanted to savour each album one at a time.

Apparently, but I don't seem to hurt anyone as long as I stay away from the FFA (yikes.....). Besides, post count isn't really of my concern. I post a lot because I like to participate.

So while on Dan Swano's Unisound website, I came across this. I can't read Swedish, but from what I can gather, some members of Dissection were hanging out with At The Gates' Anders Björler and referred to them as "At the Gays." If anyone gets a chance, head on over to Dan Swano's website and check out his guest books. Some pretty big names from quite a while ago make appearances (Opeth, Marduk, Katatonia and Dissection are the ones that I remember) as well as a few cool lesser known bands like Interment and Uncurbed. Some of the art by band members in here is great!

I don't find Xlxlx to be that bad guys. Sure 1000 posts in such a short period of time is pretty intense, but i'd say only about a quarter of his are pointless :p dude's a pretty chill poster. Nowhere near as bad as BSS or Lippyass in my opinion.

It's mostly friendly banter and lame puns on that picture, really. The Swedish word for eat ("ät") is pronounced like "at", and the joke there goes... "What band is cannibals and eats faggots?" (Ät the Gays), and I'm not even going to bother explaining the taunts towards Dissection.

Oh, and on the left page there's a studio diary of sorts, and then an obscure reference to fish ass... huh.

Yeah, I do admit that quite a bit of my posts have been pretty infantile, which is something I want to correct. But even then (and even if it's wrong to say it myself), I think some of the hate I have gotten is unwarranted. Okay, maybe "hate" is too much strong of a word.....

Haha, thanks, I assumed it was all in good fun. Was actually forcing an internet Swede friend to translate some of the other pages for me, but thanks!

On the ideology bit, I find it relatively easy to look past even extreme ideologies when in comes to art as long as the form to which they're attached seems to convey something beyond the literality of the message. Shitty, boring, mediocre art will still be shit no matter how retarded or admirable the ideology behind it might be, whereas art that possesses awe-inspiring aesthetic qualities will remain impressive, however misguided or clear-sighted the artist that created it. I think people attach themselves to doctrines and later leave them, and sympathies and theories tend to change over time, but the essence of the art that matters (to me, at least) is the degree of passion, psychological intensity, and sheer human ability that the art itself embodies. In that manner it's possible to admire the power inherent in any art––be it Nazi, Catholic, Muslim, animist, imperial, etc––while completely disagreeing with the message. For me it's about the fascination of creations, about witnessing and drawing on the special power within each form, so long as it has any power to be accessed....ideology is really quite irrelevant in the end.
