Forteresse and Monarque! I'm sold! The second half of 2016 is turning up as a great concert season. Iskra in July, Skeletonwitch in August, Arkona in September, Alestorm in October and all this in November - good times :)

Wow only $75 for that? I might come back up there if I have enough time off left.

Am considering going to this. Especially would love to see Monarque live again, they put on such an amazing show! I'm not sure I would be able to pull all three days though. I've never been to Messe des Morts before, from those have been in the past are there usually also single day passes that eventually come on sale?

Very much looking forward to it. Norrmania, I think I recall there being day passes available at past editions... starting on a Thursday is potentially a pain in the ass for some people.

Yeah there's always many individual day tickets that you will be able to buy soon. 40 bucks for the 2 big days, 20 or so for the 1st day (Ulcerate headlining gig). I got the 3 day pass to save cash (95$ and not $75) and I'm sure that I'll go to the whole fest.

It was $75 in USD. I'm lucky too as that is a major US holiday so I'd only have to take Friday off work, Thursday is thanksgiving for us :), so yeah.

Well it's not like you'll go to Vietnam or something! I can't host anyone right now unfortunately but I'll probably be able to next year. It would be cool to have an American delegation though! I did the fest with a Canadian MA delegation and also 2 American MA users (including John Sunlight) and they had a lot of fun. Feel free to PM me, guys!

I can't wait for more bands to be announced. There's no American bands yet so I guess we'll get some.

I'm still debating. It'll just depend on funds over the next week or so but if I get a bit drunk after payday I'll probably end up with a three day pass.

I was all over the 3 day pass right at the moment they went on sale. I have been to editions IV and V and this one is shaping up to rule them all.

Montreal is a fun city to be in, for anybody on the fence. Don't stress if you can't speak French. Downtown is no problem.

I am happy enough as it is, so if any future announcement adds to it that is bonus.

Yeah haha and most people who speak French can speak English (especially the youth). The opposite isn't true. :)

All the MA delegation should go drink beer at Dieu du Ciel before the fest!

Pretty sure Wyrm means next year when I'll have my own place. He's going to the Cali Death Fest though!

Got this today: :)

Tony; what are some good hotels in the area? Preferably walking distance to the venues or a short taxi ride away.

The MDM website has a section about hotels. Next time you'll stay at Casa Del Tony!
http://www.messedesmorts.net/#!hotels/c1w2q

As was the case for the other editions of the fest, the Days Inn Downtown hotel offers a special price for folks attending the festival:
$85 + tax per room (1 - 4 persons).
You only have to mention that you are reserving for the Messe des Morts Festival by phone or email to get the special price.

I just bought the all weekend pass after seeing the announcement that they were going to be sold out soon. Is that price $85 in Canadian dollars and is it per night?

Man, contact them. I assume it's 85 bucks per night.

I'm going to apply for the passport this week. I might have to resort to just driving myself up. Might be the cheapest way and probably safest if I'm going to be hauling a bunch of merch back.

Did you ever get that room Wily? I went to book it the morning after your post and it was sold out. I really need to get on booking something else but since I know fuck all about the city I have no idea which hotel I should look into.

Tony any help would be much appreciated. I just want to know what's close and easily accessible from the fest.

I never got a room. Might not actually drive either. Still weighing my options for travel.

I'm really not sure what I can do to help though! There's many many hotels in Montréal, check them out on online websites and check the distance from the 2 venues (both near metro stations - Métro beaubien and Métro McGill). All the gigs are gonna end before the metro service ends or else you can just take the night bus or a cab (if you're willing to pay).

I guess we could also go eat together before each day depending of my finances!

The Piranha bar is actually downtown and there's a lot of stuff around it like the McGill university (a nice campus to visit) and also the Montréal underground city but that's a bit underwhelming. Théâtre Plaza isn't in a very touristic part of town but there's some good restaurants around and there's a McDonald right beside the venue if you want to feel at home!

I'm thinking of bringing you guys to Dieu du Ciel, Pit Caribou pub and La Banquise though. We'll see! Feel free to PM me on Facebook about anything.

Also for rooms, I know that my Ontarion buddy Nathan (RapeTheDead here) got a cheap room through airbnb or whatever. Maybe he can help with that.

I don't know about airbnb as I've never used it and I think I would just prefer a hotel honestly. But if anyone feels like rooming with a complete stranger I'm down to go spitzies.

With airbnb, it worked out to roughly half the price a hotel would've been, it was our first time using it (I booked the room with my girlfriend) and the people who owned the place had their room upstairs and were really quiet and respectful and stuff. Really nice place right off a main street. I suppose we got lucky, but the site seems fairly legit overall.

I'd love to make the trip down again this year, but it is right around crunch time when it comes to school. Still, the lineup is too good not to miss. Pooling in on a hotel does seem like the way to go, if you can get enough people in on it.

Does anyone know when the single day passes go on sale? It'll be the third for me. Had a beer with Niklas Kvarforth at the Katacombs a couple years ago. Then my buddy pinched his nipple and got yelled at in Swedish.

Supposedly when the 3 day passes are sold out, Sepulchral will start selling the individual days. I'm pretty sure the 3days are sold out now but Martin (the boss) is in France with Forteresse (who are playing a fest over there) so he's probably a bit busy!

I can't wait for more bands to be announced.

Booked my flight and hotel on a whim today. I'll be staying at the Le Square Phillips hotel. Google maps had it a four minute walk from the Piranha Bar so I figured that was good.

It's always an excellent lineup, never been disappointed. This will be my 3rd Messe Des Morts. Going to book soon at the Travelodge downtown on René-Lévesque where I usually stay. Cheap and good location. Going to bus it this year, cheaper than renting a car and having it sit all weekend in the garage. Maybe this year I'll at least have 2 of 2 shirts bought come home with me and not 1 haha.

I should form a MAMDM Facebook group to coordinate beer and metal antics!

Veld, add me on Facebook (look for my nickname) if you want to be part of it.
