Pretty amazed no one posted about this when it was announced back in November.

They also announced two US shows for later in the month of October.

I'm gonna do everything in my power to go to the New York show. This is too awesome a thing to pass up.

I had to stop myself from getting a vip ticket since theres no garrantee I can be there. I'll still get a regular ticket though, it would be nice to see them play two whole sets by themselves without coheadlining with anybody.

They don't do enough "An Evening With Opeth" shows/tours. Seeing a 75 minute Opeth set where they play 12 songs is cool, but annoying since you know they could do so much more on one show.

Shit, I'd like to see that :( Sadly, it's not a tour. I skipped their last NA tour because the setlist was shit and they played with In Flames!

See, if that show was in like 2001, that would be possibly the most unmissable show in the history of unmissable shows. Nowadays though? Oy vey.

I've still only seen Opeth once, and it was on the Heritage tour when they weren't doing any growling songs. The heaviest tune in the whole set was A Fair Judgment, which I will say was crazy live. That was about it though. There was an extended 25 minute coffee shop sitdown acoustic portion of the set that put the audience to sleep. At least Katatonia were awesome.

I've seen them twice (2009, 2010 if I remember correctly) and both times were great. I really fucking like Pale Communion and would like to see a set with like 5-6 songs from it. The setlist from their last NA tour was meh and only 75 minutes so fuck that, not worth it for me. I've already seen "The Lotus Eater", "Windowpane" or "Deliverance" like twice and it's boring picks, ya know? Be cool, Mikael!

But check this setlist from 2 days ago: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/opeth/201 ... 8cb8c.html
That's fucking good. "Advent", "April Ethereal" and "The Moor"! If they play a similar set plus the whole Ghost Reveries album, it would be awesomeballs. You should definitely go see them since you're not far from NY, I can't :(

Man, I hope I am going to L.A. around this time. This would be really killer to see. Opeth is one of my favorite bands but I didn't go to their last tour due to In Flames and it not being worth the drive.

If I'm in western Mass next October I'll try to make it to the NY show, provided it doesn't sell out too soon. Still waiting on that second leg of the NA tour too. I also skipped out on the last one because of the crappy lineup and short setlist.

All three songs were on the 20th anniversary setlist, and by extension the Royal Albert Hall DVD. They won't be on there this time. Here's what I'd do for the "One song from every album" set this time around.

Orchid: In Mist She Was Standing
Morningrise: Black Rose Immortal (that's the dream choice, but the more realistic choice would be The Night and the Silent Water)
MAYH: Demon of the Fall (solely because they didn't do it last time)
Still Life: Godhead's Lament (more realistic choice is Face of Melinda)
Blackwater Park: Bleak (and when they're in London, have Steven Wilson come out to sing his parts)
Deliverance: Master's Apprentices
Damnation: Closure
Watershed: Hessian Peel
Heritage: The Devil's Orchard
Pale Communion: Moon Above, Sun Below

Good picks. Hell yeah, I'd like them to play Black Rose Immortal but this probably never happen, it's freaking 20 minutes. Maybe next year for the 20th anniversary or Morningrise? I'd sell three kidneys if they play the whole album live.

There's a clip on Youtube of Mikael responding to crowd yells of Black Rose Immortal with "That song is 20 minutes long, and people want us to play it because it's 20 minutes long." Something tells me they aren't gonna ever play it, much to my sadness.

So the setlist for these shows has come in.

http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/opeth/201 ... 4306d.html

What an uninteresting second set, and I say that as a fan of every single song in the show. Doing the "song from every album" thing they did for the 20th anniversary tour would have been so much better. Actually kinda glad I didn't drop the money on this now.

I'd pay huge money (if I had any) just to see "Beneath the Mire", "Isolation Years" and "Hours of Wealth" live. Fucking awesome tracks.

I'm sorta fine with the 2nd set, "Master's Apprentice" is a cool track, "The Lepper Affinity" and "To Rid the Disease" are boring picks though and "The Lotus Eater" as the encore, meh, gimme a track from MAYH or Still Life, Mike! I'm fine with 3 tracks from Pale Communion, they should play "Moon Above, Sun Below" though.

And booo for not going!
