Sometimes the information simply isn't available for these bands, but maybe for some the information can now be found, as opposed to when they were first accepted onto the site. There have been plenty of cases where bands of unknown location end up getting a second listing on the site with a set location, and a duplicate listing that serves no purpose remains, sometimes undetected for years. The reason for unknown location is occasionally a misspelling of their name, causing little to be found about the band, and that could be kept in mind while looking into them. If someone happens to have time to do a bit of research on these (373 in total) and see what can be updated at this point, it would probably be worth the time invested. Thanks.

What do we do in cases where the band wants to be unknown, but their location is actually known through personal knowledge?

Much in the same way we would treat real artist names or the like, if it's not public knowledge, we won't add it to the site.

Now that the project of researching US bands without a listed city and cleaning up/updating their pages is complete (which took 6 months, on and off), going to check on these bands of unknown location. There were 373 in January, and we're now up to 408. Would be awesome if anyone feels like helping out with them as well. I'll start at the end of the alphabet. Like usual, keep an eye out for those 'gimmick locations', since for some bands in this category they're here because it is the only listed location to reference on their official sites.
(edit): Unknown location bands beginning with M-Z + Cyrillic letters completed today (of course, only a fraction of them had additional information/country location to be found). Down to 376 of unknown location (so, 32 of them solved today). Hoping to finish this up by the end of the week.

Went through all of them yesterday and today. 59 locations found, 349 remain unknown, and countless dead links removed / valid ones added.

Caught up on this from June 14th - today. 363 in total now, many of which are newer black metal bands that keep their location a secret.

(update: caught up through September 12th).
