 the translation is really funny here http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Al ... %AF/202610 are you sure this was in Arabic? Apparently user http://www.metal-archives.com/users/atheism used google translation to translate the name, should send him a tr00 warning. I also like this: Title in English: Atba'a Al-Namrood LOOOL

EDIT: I'll work on this one, I happened to see it by chance so if there is any doubtful Arabic translations just let me know.

I'm reposting this one from my last list of outstanding reports in the hopes someone can fix it. http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Macarble/118233 needs fixing. The mojibakes had been in the legacy lineup, but some genius felt the need to add the still-broken names to the V2 line-up field, which looks terrible. The majority of the lineup info (from what I can tell, ayway) can be found here, at the band's MySpace. Sadly, the info is not copy/paste-able, and will need to be typed in manually. All info is in Japanese.

Fixed. :)

The translations for the member names seem, uh, weird... but when I checked their old site, it seems like they were the correct names after all. :\ Sofeshue, would you be able to clarify if the names are correct?

:p I mean, it's probably presumptuous of me to try running an Asian name through a translator and expect a logical result, but the way Google flipped on it prompted me to ask to make sure.

i looked at Macarble's page. In the past member list, there is "威裟悪 脱退". Really laugh my ass off, because 脱退 means "to quit" and what their site said was "in 2005, the drummer 威裟悪 quit". Also, "サポート" in the current line-up means "support". The original text from the site says, "in 2006, the Guitarist hide-bowz from (the band) Advisory Booth played as a guest (as if a "support")" I have fixed the pages and deleted redundant artist pages.

Some members use real names, such as ナオキ (Naoki), 斉藤 (Saito), but others clearly use alias, e.g. 刺激 (meaning "to provoke", "to stimulate") 威裟悪 (don't know how to translate it properly, seems related to Buddhism)

I found http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Ekt ... 40300536's entry on Discgogs (http://www.discogs.com/artist/%CE%95%CE ... F%89%CE%BD) . The info for the Band name, both band members, and album title and tracks, can all be seen. Is this official enough to warrent changing the info over to Greek?

Edit: I pose the same question for http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Exoristoi/24553, which is over at http://www.discogs.com/artist/%CE%95%CE ... E%BF%CE%B9.

For Bulgarian, you may try messaging user hewhay. I don't know if he reads the forums, but he responds to messages.
I've fixed this, as it was an easy one, but in general it may be better to contact native speaker if we have such among our active users.

Please remember to add a transliteration of non-latin album names to the additional notes, so that people who cannot read non-latin scripts can read them. For example, I can't read any of the album names in the Korrozia Metalla discography:

I can... barely. ;D Getting better though.

Should a transliteration only be used if a proper translation is unavailable? For example, it seems kinda silly to have "Zhiznʹ v Oktyabre" and "Life in October" in the additional notes when a non-Slav is probably only going to refer to the album by its English translation anyway...

If the information is available, should artist names be listed in latin script?

Alhadis: I`d say that a transliteration is mandatory, while a translation is optional.

MetalCuresHeadaches: Yeah, no problem with that.

Transliterations are a crime against language, but eh, okay... :\

I don't really see a problem with them. We're giving the user a chance to pronounce a word that they can't read. In cinema, I tend to remember the original names of foreign films, not the translation.

I think it'd work well with smaller, shorter titles (things like "Nav'" and "Arkona", for example), but longer, more complicated album titles with 4 or 5 words long...? Nobody's probably gonna remember that phonetically, mate. Better off leaving the translation in there rather then stuffing both in the additional notes.

But hey, that's just my 2 cents. :)

Starting to think a transliteration field would be good, though. That way an album's transliteration can appear underneath the heading with special formatting to clarify it for us Latin-speakers.

Pardon me, but since when did transliteration for album titles become mandatory? I thought only the band name should be accompanied with a transliteration.

As pointed out by Alhadis, transliteration for long album titles does not make much sense. Also transliteration does not necessarily give the the correct pronunciation. Think about pronouncing polish based on the spelling, which uses latin letters.

As for translation, I don't know. Maybe we should add a tab for translation? But the work is hard. Speaking two or more languages does not make one's translation accurate.

I'm talking about album transliterations being added to the additional notes, not the album title. The idea to add transliterations is not to necessarily show how to pronounce the title, but to allow the user to refer to the album by some name, even if they can't pronounce it correctly. You can add the translation if you want. No problem with that.

Eh... :ugh: I can see that working for shorter, more easily remembered names (such as one-word album titles), but... c'mon, for something like this or even this...? Personally, I'd make both transliterations and translations optional. If a user wants to transliterate an album, there's always Google translate.

I was fiddling around with how a "gloss" would look for Cyrillic album titles, if we were to have a field setup specifically for transliterations. Dunno, maybe they'd look something like this:

Thoughts? Not sure how people would feel about an extra line magically appearing on some pages...

You're picking some exceptions. Most album titles are much shorter. In any case, what's the difference between those transliterations and this (or album titles in any other non-english western languages)?

Track 7 is missing. Could somebody double check the following transcription from the cover art?
7. Imorial (Zmorial?) sub luna plină a lui zeu de razboi Gebeleizis (Romanian)
Unsure of the first word. Other words should be correct.

Seems to be "Imortal". Look, for example, at the letter "t" in the word "battle" and compare it with the letter "i" in the other words.

Deleted artist and replaced it with this guy, who was most probably the correct "Miloš Dodo Doležal".

(Unless there's two Miloš Dodo Doležals running around doing mastering work for Czech metal bands :p)

Some albums have titles/tracks that're misencoded Czech:
http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Umb ... iscography

When repairing Czech mojibakes, just replace the following characters on the left with the corresponding character on the right:
Code:
È   Č
è   č
ø   ř
ì   ě
ù   ů
®   Ž
¾   ž
ï   ď
ù   ů
¹   š
ò   ň
