Yeah I know it's kind of an oxymoron, but I'm looking for some lighter Death metal. In other words, I won't go any heavier than Dominus' death n' roll album 'The First 9'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBvCnIuTJjc

View to the Dim by them is a little too br00tal for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkqPmbtZGiM

And believe me, I have absolutely NO problem with Death metal instrumentals, I just haven't found the low voices appealing yet (I'm working on it! :D). I guess the 'softness' could come from a less obstructive singer.

Thanks in advance!

what about Entombed´s Wolverine Blues? Sepulturas´ Arise?

Alchemist was a progressive death metal band, not that heavy but awesome for sure
they are odd but cool
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9YcPuCv0aY

Same with Atheist...progresive death metal, not so fast or agressive but totally mindblowing

Master its a good old school death metal that isnt that hard to digest

you should check some melodeath, the voices are harsh but still way softer.

i dont really know if those albums fit your criteria, maybe later ill have something better (more appropriate) to recommend lol.

Seconding all of vengefulgoat's post as well as the melodeath recommendation (Colony is one of my favorite albums from the genre, by the way).

You might also like Death.

And if you don't mind some black metal influence, Enfold Darkness would be worth a look.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKai2yJESnA

Revocation, also a death/thrash band, more along the lines of Death and Atheist than Sepultura and Possessed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEDphDnA50I

Vicious Circle, who I've always felt were sort of like Nocturnus without keyboards or Sci-fi themes.

One I forgot is Ares Kingdom, they also play death/thrash but unlike the rest I've mentioned they're a 'new' band.

Sinse when the fuck did so called "thrashy" death metal mean softer? Why don't you just ask for death thrash bands? The nu-school makes me sick.

I'm pretty sure that the 3 other people who contributed to the conversation knew what I meant, along with pretty much everyone else. In this case, 'thrashy death' describes a hypothetical less-extreme Death Metal band, I never asked for nu-metal. Why are you here being an ass in this forum? I think I hear 4chan calling you.

I guess Arch Enemy, especially with Angela, is kind of what you described (melodic death metal?). Their latest album might be a good start for you.

How about Gorefest?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25Wgpi7JVaY
They are death metal but not massively heavy, have some pretty thrash riffs and to top it off, one of the catchiest death metal bands I've ever heard.

Kataklysm are on that side as well.

Just put Death-Symbolic on repeat and soak it in...seriously. They were my first foray into the 'heavier" stuff with their leprosy album soooo long ago. Their later material (Human, Individual Thought Patterns etc.) makes the first two albums seem amateur by comparison. Chuck (r.i.p.) had a very digestable semi-growl also.

While I'm rambling (I remember being your age discovering new bands) my brother, who is not a death metal fan, loves Amon Amarth. Very laid back death growls that are easy to understand and some very catchy songs (albeit a bit repetitive over extended listening).

Some Benediction wouldn't go amiss - Very thrashy, the riffs are memorable and punchy, as opposed to an all out barrage of noise. There's a real rumbling and rolling sense of groove too.
