Title pretty much says it all. Does anyone know of any spacey black metal similar to Darkspace or Trist's Hin-Fort?

As the examples would suggest, when I say spacey, I do not mean spacey in a "whoah, cosmical dude" kind of way. I am not looking for stuff like Oranssi Pazuzu. Rather, I'm looking for something more akin to "space ambient" meets black metal--pretty much exactly like the two examples given above.

Anyway, thanks in advance

You may find Midnight Odyssey of interest. Currently one of my favourite bands.

AHA! I got the perfect band for you man. Astral Luminous. Their album, Lunaric Tide is a masterpiece, and I believe they only will get better. They got everything that you are asking for.

Oh, and I know these guys are well know, and there's really no ambience, but I have to plug Samael - Passage and Lux Mundi. Both albums are classic examples of cosmic black/extreme metal.

Sun of the Blind is a solo project by one of the guitarists in Darkspace. Very similar to Darkspace but a little more accessible.

Check out Ymir's latest and debut full length, I received it from Nastrum and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the disc, it is a long player clocking in at 70 odd minutes, a lot slower that Darkspace etc but still very epic and spacey sounding, alot of ambient keyboard work throughout.

Lunar Reign is an excellent, space-ish black metal band who deserve wider recognition, but they are basically ITNE worship. Not much like Darkspace or Trist at all.

Since the topic is similiar, could anybody suggest an album much like Samael's Passage, besides their own Lux Mundi? I love this album, and too me, this is what space inspired black metal/industrial should be.

Also, check out De Silence et D'Ombre.

I wonder if the OP has checked any of these awesome recommendations?

Indeed I have been. Most are off the mark unfortunately, though I do appreciate the attempt--thanks to everyone who's pitched in so far.

So far, the two I've liked the most have been Borgne and Void. Not quite what I'm looking for, but cool stuff none the less.

Thanks again.

Thorns

Maybe it's too obvious. Or too far off the mark.

Astral Monolith may interest you; the second half of their s/t album features strange and brutish BM enveloped in reverbating deep space-ambience. Tracks 1-5 probably won't interest you much, but 6-10 are great. It's almost like two different bands.

Windir have very space-y keyboards in lots of places; "Journey to the End" being the perfect example.

Inquisition have some weird, mind-bending guitar riffs and have this suffocating, destructive atmosphere that can get pretty cosmic in places. "Crepuscular Battle Hymn" is what I'm talking about; plus just LOOK at that artwork!

Vinterland - Welcome My Last Chapter is along the lines of Dissection, Sacramentum, mid-era Rotting Christ, Thyrfing and Windir, very competent melodic black metal from Sweden with some good atmospheric keyboards and some hot blooded Viking metal running through its veins. "Vinterskogen" is more melodic than most songs, with a very prominent lead in it that's kind of the Swedish/Viking equivalent of something off of "Sanctus Diavolos" by Rotting Christ, and it's superb. This band definitely deserves more recognition.

That Ymir band sounded good STORMM, I will be looking into them more.

EDIT: apparently I didn't read the OP closely enough last night. Probably Inquisition is the only one which truly applies, in that case.

I'd give Lunar Aurora a try. It was the main project of the guy behind the German Trist, and as a matter of fact I believe all their albums are miles ahead of Hin-Fort. Try their albums from Elixir of Sorrow onwards.

Rahu. The demo tapes are more conventional, albeit cold and hollow, black metal, but the debut album, "The Quest for the Vajra of Shadows", will suit your request, I believe. It's cold, distant, vast, both dense and hollow, and oddly aloof. However, you may find the ambient-side of your request lacking. You should nonetheless give thiem a try: http://youtu.be/nO4ZywyEUkg

Edit: for the sake of comparison, a track from the eponymous demo compilation: http://youtu.be/gtau8VyzpAU
