I'm not expecting too much for this recommendation, but then again I could be proven wrong. I'm looking for bands (any metal genre, but preferably black or death metal) that uses a vocalist that sings like he's in a soul or funk band. I've recently discovered Charles Bradley and I think it would sound really cool if those type of vocals were used in a metal band. I could care less about the influence on the instruments, I'm primarily just looking for soul/funk vocals.

funk metal ?

Fishbone and Living Color would be the obvious ones.

Faith No More did it occasionally too, especially in the later patton albums.

Some of Bad Brains mid period to later stuff has those kind of vocals too over quite heavy grooves.

Outside funk metal, it's a tough request.

I think Pain of Salvation might appeal to you.

Yeah Pain of Salvation was the closest, but still no dice. All of them still remind me of traditional metal/rock singing. This is definitely an out of the ordinary request though and I'm not really expecting exactly what I'm looking for, so thanks for the effort.

Madder Mortem springs to mind. Can be a little hit or miss. This sounds like a metal Jefferson Airplane:

This is a one-off, but Riot's Killer is the ultimate proof-of-concept for the legitimacy of funk metal to me, with deeper backing funk-style vocals, a lot of groove, and some horn playing. King's X is a somewhat obligatory mention, although I generally think of them as more hard rock than metal.

That Riot is basically spot on! Probably the closest thing I'll find to what I'm looking for. The only stuff I heard from them is the album Thundersteel, which is fucking killer.

Oh, I remembered a song that's exactly this, it's Aina - Flight of the Torek.

Take a look at this break. http://youtu.be/k5tIY6Q5pDI?t=3m15s

Warning: Badly cheesy power metal content ):
