I'm looking for some good groove metal. I of course know about the big names like Pantera, Machine Head, White Zombie, etc. Are there any bands out there that you would recommend?

Well, there's Exhorder who Pantera basically copied completely and who were earlier than them.

I mean Phil copies their singer to a T and the guitar is also very similar, but I do think that ultimately Pantera was the better band, though Exhorder is good.

But you definitely should check them out as they were probably the first real groove metal band.

Then there's Fudge Tunnel who M.A. calls groove metal, though I'm not sure I'd personally refer to them as groove metal, though I'm not sure what else you could call them, but they are very good. They have Alex Newport who was also one of the 2 singers for Nailbomb along with Max Cavalera of Sepultura, and you might also possibly consider Nailbomb some kind of groove/thrash/industrial mix, so you'd probably like them too.

Nevermore. It's progressive too so it's better developed than standard groove. "Narcosynthesis" is groove 101. God Forbid also had strong groove tendencies on their Constitution of Treason and Earthsblood albums, I think. I haven't heard them in ages but I was fond of them in the late 2000s.

+1 for Grip Inc. Enemy of the Sun is very similar songwriting-wise (same songwriter, guitarist, producer) but with not really good vocals and a good drummer who unfortunately isn't Lombardo...

I personally enjoy Prong (Cleansing is my fave but they are generally very good, check also their 2012 one, Carved into Stone), Nevermore has some excellent groove (I'd cite Inside Four Walls or This Sacrament first), Halford's Fight - War of Worlds is a masterpiece in my opinion (and I really love Jugulator too), I am assuming the industrial-groove variety like Ministry or Fear Factory you arealy know about.

Sybreed has an industrial/cyber flavor to them, but is easily one of my favorites.

D Creation's Silent Echoes has some progressive, melodeath, and symphonic influences and is fantastic.

Xerath is a hybrid with djent, symphonic and other trappings, and certainly one of the better bands at it.

Coroner's last proper album, Grin, is a pretty nifty mix of groove and prog metal.

Channel Zero (like Soulfly)
Incite (like Soulfly)
Malevolence (like Pantera)
Pissing Razors (like Pantera)
Pro-Pain (Hardcore)
Throwdown (like Pantera)

Also, it just occurred to me, they're not quite "metal" enough for the archives, but a lot of King's X material works well for this. Dogman especially has a lot of killer groovy tracks.

Spoiler: show

While they only came close to Groove Metal for this one record, Sepultura's Chaos, A.D. is still a good time, and interesting to check out as a non-American spin on the style:
