Complete no-nonsense attitude, throwing powerful, crushing riffs in your face. Laden with groove (but still death metal).
Examples- dismember(like an ever flowing stream - love the chainsaw),entombed (clandestine).
bands may or may not be old school, screamed death growls preffered.
NO PIG GRUNTS PLEASE (Chris barnes stay out).

We have a thread for death metal recommendations here.

Since most death metal is dominated by crushing guitar riffs and many bands have plenty of groove in their sound, it's slightly hard to recommend based on that without knowing what other death metal bands you've tried and didn't like. How do you find Immolation, for example, or Deicide? They match the description despite sounding very different. Have you tried Sentenced's first two albums?

Agreed this is a very vague request as there are quite a few styles of death metal that have a lot of emphasis on groove.

Since you mentioned a couple classic Swedish bands then check out other bands in the same style like Carnage, Grave, Demonical, Tormented (Swe), and Graveyard (Esp).

And you are probably aware of Bolt Thrower already but if you are not then check them out and other projects from Martin Van Drunnen like Hail of Bullets and Asphyx. These bands all have a very heavy groove that is infectious though quite different than the Swedish d-beat style.

Some other bands like Baphomet, Obituary, and Benediction also have a fair bit of groove in them.

Here is a link to my eyesore signature. I hope this new one will not offend those who read metal's sacred texts.
