After a great deal of searching here's the short list of what I like:

Battleroar: To Death and Beyond
Candlemass: Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Cirith Ungol: Few tracks off Frost and Fire / King of the Dead
High on Fire: Surrounded by Theives
Manilla Road: Crystal Logic (2/3 of it)
Manowar: 2 tracks off Into Glory Ride
Scorpions: Side A of In Trance
Solitude Aeternus: Into the Depths of Sorrow
Solstice: New Dark Age / Halcyon
Wizard: Bound by Metal

Generally speaking, I find that whilst I often enjoy the music, I frequently dislike the vocals, lyrics or both. I've sampled the following and found them all inadequate in some way:

Atlantean Kodex, Scald, While Heaven Wept, Isen Torr, Procession, Cromlech, The Albion Codex, Millarca, Gatekeeper, Funeral Circle, Isole, Jag Panzer, Heavy Load, DoomSword, Stormbringer,
Ironsword, Wotan, Wishdoom, Battle Ram, Twisted Tower Dire, Longings Past, Enchanter, Lord Weird Slough Feg, Omen, Virgin Steele...

I doubt that anyone can help me but in the strange event that your tastes align with mine, perhaps you can.

GriftegÄrd, flawless.
Do the words Heavy Metal mean anything to you other than buttcore, technical progressive assgrind or the like?

Memento Mori has Messiah from Candlemass on vocals so you may already be familiar with them.

Altar of Oblivion is a modern band keeping the spirit of epic doom alive.

Argus is another fairly modern band you should check out if you haven't done\ so. Their album last year was one of the best of the year. More straight up traditional metal but is quite epic and has some doom tendencies.

Tarot. They have been around since the 80s releasing quality material.

There is also the whole niche of USPM and we have some USPM nerds here. Not sure how you feel about that stuff. The power metal thread often has discussions on it.
Medieval Steel, Liege Lord, Griffin, Omen, Oblivion, Dark Age, Tyrant, and Savatage are some examples. Reading through Failsafeman and Xeogred's reviews may give you some good stuff as they have reviewed a lot of stuff in this area.

Also Sweden in particular has shown a resurgence in 70/80s worshiping heavy metal. Ram, In Solitude, Portrait, and Trial being some of the more notable ones. They often take Mercyful Fate as a primary influence. Ram's Lightbringer for example is very Mercyful Fate like but the last album I heard, Death sounds a lot more like Judas Priest.
In reference to Baby Metal

Thanks for all the suggestions. Unfortunately none of them did it for me!
