So this year I'm suppose to be learning German. I'm looking for songs with audible German lyrics in them that I can follow, preferably good. So far all I really know is Die Apokalyptischen Reiter. Beyond that and the odd Sodom song, I'm a bit lost.

If anyone knows any good German songs that aren't metal, feel free to post them also. But they better be good (what I've heard of German music so far is pretty :ugh: )

Der Galgen - Walkuren
Adorned Brood - 7 Tage Lang (classic folk/drinking song)
Hel - Meerfahrt
Gernotshagen - Märe aus wälderen Hallen
Halgadom - Werdung
Odroerir - Des Thors Hammer Heimholung
Schandmaul - Vogelfrei
Surturs Lohe - Hundingstoeter
Tanzwut - Lügner
Thormesis - Geschenk des Vaters
Volksmetal - Mausig schaut mei Alte aus

anything by Volkstrott, Schandmaul, Ignis Fatuu, Nachtgeschrei...

um. ok. ...perhaps you better explain what 'good' music sounds like.

I'm not sure if you'll like Silbermond, but they're pretty good.

Revolverheld is pretty cool, too.

Menhir is one of my favorites. The lyrics should be pretty well audible.

Bifröst is another pretty decent German speaking band.

Someone already mentioned Hel and the obvious mention of Rammstein, so there ya go.

Obligatory KMFDM recommendation (most of their stuff's in English, but they usually have at least one German song per album):

You could also give Handzul und Gretel a shot, though they aren't really my thing. Rammstein's a pretty obvious one, and I see they've been mentioned a few times.

Thanks for the rec's. A few names I'm familiar with but had forgotten about, like Subway to Sally. Rammstein I've never really liked, but considering the simplicity of the lyrics and where I'm at with the language, I should probably give them another go.

Yeah, I was really meaning I don't really want to be inundated with recommendations of all things German. But if there's anything you feel particularly passionate about posting, I'll give it a listen.

Verdunkeln's last album has a lot of clean vocals, though the heavy reverb can be a challenge I guess.

Bethlehem are also a challenge because nothing makes sense:

Knorkator may not be metal enough for MA, but they do have a bunch of metallic songs and their lyrics are easily understandable and very silly:

Helrunar's vocals are relatively easy to understand for black metal:
