I recently really got into bagpipes. Unfortunatly I don't know many bands/artist that use them. I'm looking for bands like Schelmich etc, were the bagpipes play a primary roll. Either meal (probably folk) or non-metal is okay.

Any suggestions?

If you search for "bagpipes" under the lineup option from the dropdown on the main page, you get 80 hits.

The only band on that list I'm really familiar with is Neurosis, and bagpipes are far from being a prominent feature in the band's sound.

Check out Eluveitie, Corvus Corax, In Extremo, Skyforger.

On the non-Metal/Rock side, check out folk bands like Blowzabella, La Musgana, Ilgi.

I'll probably add some more ( and more in-depth) when I get a chance.

Try Gremany's Wotanskrieger and Argentina's Skiltron, also you will def enjoy the track "Thorns of Desolation" by Graveworm an excellent bagpipe/keyboard piece.

a handful of Suidakra songs on each of the recent albums have some good bagpipe usage.

In all seriousness i'd reccomend Fejd, a great Swedish pure folk band made up of guys from a Power Metal background. They use a Swedish variant of the bagpipes, among other instruments.

Absu's Tara has a bagpipe intro and outro if I recall correctly.

Speaking of Absu, Proscriptor's debut solo album "The Venus Bellona" has a great bagpipe track on it.

Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys.

Arkona - A Russian folk metal-band using the Russian variant of bagpipe.

Cruachan - Irish folk metal-band (the first album is largely black metal but with extremely strong celtic-feel to it).

Older Pink and Spongy Doom are really good tracks- too bad the band isn't active anymore.

I'm definitely seconding the Fejd recommendation. You should also check out Tanzwut, which is a side project of some of the Corvus Corax guys, and features bagpipes as a primary instrument. I personally have only heard Schattenreiter, but it's worth looking into for sure.

Skiltron from Argentina is amazing! They play Scottish Folk metal with bagpipes and Dio-esque vocals. A must listen!

The song "Caledonia" by Cromagnon... I think those are bagpipes... if not they're pretty damn close! Awesome song.

Molested, of course. Old-school Death Metal group featuring members of Borknagar.

Folkearth does, but probably not consistently due to the nature of how the band operates.

Well if we're talking about Celtic Punk then Flogging Molly is more oriented around those instruments than Dropkick Murphys.

Just look for Celtic in the genre search of Metal Archives. That might have some good ones.

However neither of these bands use pipes in every song, and nor do Cruachan, Waylander, Mael Mordha or any other Celtic Metal band. The tin whistle is much more commonly used. Two great songs (covers anyway) of the Dropkick Murphy's immediately come to mind for bagpipes though; "Its Along Way To The Top If You Wanna Rock And Roll", "21 Guitar Salute" and their version of "The Auld Triangle" by The Dubliners has a pipe solo in the middle as well I think.

u should check out the celtic genre. Bands like heol telwen, aes dana, stille volk, valuatir and hantaoma use the bagpipes through out their cds. However, u should also check out the instrument called the bombarde. Its basically a bagpipe without the bag and the drones. Usually those two instuments go together but not all bands use them both. They sound very identical. I believe pagan reign and tverd use it. Anyways, i hope you enjoy the bagpipes in metal!

The song Victory Song by Ensiferum has a lovely bagpipe outro. its only one song but very good.

I'm not sure if its bagpipes or violin, but Asmegin has a great album with a very folk sound called Hin Vordende Sod & Sø.

I recommend Smallman. Their debut album feels like a mix of Tool and "Times of Grace/Sun That Never Sets" era Neurosis. The bagpipes have a very atonal ethnic folk feel.
