I've been a sucker for slow to mid-paced super heavy chugging. I've been recommended death/doom shit but it takes ages for their songs to start (my dying bride for instance) with acoustic,atmospheric,ambient WHICH SUCKS!!.
all I want is no nonsense super heavy slow to mid paced riffing,melancholy or dark solos perhaps but no core crap
I know about incantation,immolation,bolt thrower and asphyx (love them)

For some modern bands you could try:
Fuebrarum
Tribulation

tribulation,hail of bullets awesome ! dead congregation not exactly what I wanted but still cool.
Hail of bullets seems to be composed of the particular qualities I liked about asphyx
