Just out of curiosity, is there such a thing as melodic grindcore? And I don't mean bands that fuse grind with more melodic genres (like Anaal Nathrak or some Deathgrind bands). I mean pure grindcore with emphasis on melody. Does it exist, or is it impossible by definition? The closest I've found so far is Nasum, and maybe Insect Warfare.

Lykathea Aflame? The only grind band whose music I'd call beautiful.

I didn't make this thread, and I feel like I have to thank you for suggesting that band. I checked it out, and they are awesome. The reviews are really good too. With 18 reviews with an average score of 97% on this site, that's pretty impressive.

Gridlink may seem pretty discordant at first, but their riffs(especially on Amber Gray) are pretty melodic.
Also, how about Appalling Spawn?

Lykathea Aflame aren't Grind in the slightest (Prog/Death Metal is a good descriptor)...they're absolutely incredible, though. Anyways, Liberteer fuse pretty straightforward Grind w/ lots of melody (and some unusual instruments for Grind), and Discordance Axis fused some melody into really technical, experimental Grind.

First off the Grindcore help thread is stickied, use it. Second, melody in Grindcore is atypical but I sugest you check out the Powerviolence band Gasp, especially an Earwigs Guide To Traveling.

LIBERTEER!

New project which is being 'marketed' exactly as your request "Melodic grindcore." Check em out, they're pretty awesome and fit the description very well.

Yeah, this could be part of the Grindcore thread.
