As I'm not so versed when it comes to NWoBHM besides the classic bands, I could need some help. I'm looking for bands
playing some kind of raw yet melodic NWoBHM, basically like Di' Anno era Maiden with a special focus on songs like "Drifter",
"Prodigal Son" and "Burning Ambition" (esp. that one!).
So to say NWoBHM with some kind of raw, punkish (?) vocals like Paul's one but with a melodic twist in the instrumentation.
However I also won't mind if it's "just" in a Running Free/Women in Uniform-like way.
Ok, raw-melodic NWoBHM stuff with a preferably rough vocal percormance, your turn please ;)

Thanks in advance!

I'm on an endless quest for that sort of stuff myself and I haven't made much progress. I'm listening to Michael Schenker Group right now, as it happens, and some of their stuff might be up your alley. You may be familiar with him, but if not, try the albums MSG and Assault Attack. They're more in line with Judas Priest or 80s hard rock in a lot of songs, though.

I will be honest, I have not heard much that sounds like Paul era maiden. His punk vocals, with the melodic tendencies in the instrumentation were pretty unique. Now I may be completely missing the mark here, in fact it is certain I am, but you may want to delve a bit in the 'UK82' scene which was blossoming in the UK at the time. It was punk rock often crossing over to nwobhm style melodies, and vice versa. The album that made the most impact with me was GBH - City baby attacked by rats. It is perhaps not what you are looking for but it is fast, has melodic tendencies, and has been called 'punk that metal heads would like', so it may strike a chord with you. Heres the full album on YT:

This matches most of your requirements (but may have some Motorhead tendencies as well), it is a freaking awesome song (btw its from a great album titled Burning Ambition).

I give to your the underated Chariot, one of the many forgotten heroes of NWOBHM.

also this japanese hardcore band called Paintbox have a bunch of songs in a what seems like an updated version of that style.
Highly recommened is their debut "Singing Shouting Crying " from '99. Members were from the highly influential Death Side.

Thanks, guys :)

Slander was quite good. Gonna take some further listens for a better opinion. MSG is okay, too, but doesn't really
fit my criteria imo, but thanks anyway ;)
GBH is well known to me and I totally love love "City Baby..." & "City Baby's Revenge" and "Midnight Madness.." However
I don't really see a real similarity to the early Maiden songs. Anyway - they can't be mentioned enough, hehe :D
Now Chariot: yes, that's great stuff. You're right - a bit more motörhead-ish, yes, but def. a band I need some music
from. Very great rec, thanks!

i think you'll have better luck finding similar stuff if you ditch the nwobhm tag and search for more zeppelin-esque rock

@joppek: hmm, not sure. I hate LedZep really strong and always stayed away from stuff in that vein.
But if you could point me towards bands I could maybe like despite of that and which have at least
a bit of punkish influences (esp. in the vocals) I surely would take a listen...

Hmmm punkish nwobhm, rough vocals yet melodic.... You might like Nightmare. From France, but playing the right style i think. Rough old feeling, especially on Power of the Universe album, vocals are really odd, ie un-clean in recording.
Jameson Raid might appeal to you too.
