I was wondering if there were any female fronted J-metal (the only genre I can really tolerate whiny female vocals usually) fronted bands that by preference are more renowned in Japan than the western world. Some examples of this would be the gothic metal band Ayutrica or the glam metal/rock band Corky Voce. Not sure if MA has a great knowledge of bands in this category, but would gladly appreciate some recs anyway.

So no bands with harsh vocals I guess. The only other Japanese bands with female vocalists I know are

There are other good bands, but they might be farther way from your tastes. Bands like Shadow, Gallhammer, and Galmet.

Check out Light Bringer. Really solid and original power metal fronted by a great female vocalist. They have a bunch of stuff on youtube, so go at it!

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but Aphasia and Onmyo-Za are two that automatically came to mind.
