I've gotten into Hour of Penance, and I've been trying to find more bands like them, but not having any luck. Bands that I seem to find just happen to be somehow..different.. thanks in advance for your help.

Also, check out Odious Mortem, very technical and speed based brutal death metal, as well as Carnophage, Decrepit Birth's first album (you might like the later albums, but they might be too melodic for you), Beheaded, Exhumer, Incinerate and Internal Suffering.

The band at the forefront of this is probably Aborted. Try Slaughter & Apparatus, but Goremageddon is my favourite.

As for bands like Hour Of Penance, I'll sixth Fleshgod Apocalypse. :P Also try Scrambled Defuncts' Hackled In Gore. Unrelenting death metal at its finest.

In this case, definitely look at Decrepit Birth's later albums, they mix fast brutal death metal with a strong sense of melody (think death's solos). Also, severed savior isn't really melodic but I forgot to mention them last time. Benighted are melodic but not as technical as the other bands. Kronos is an excellent brutal death band with a lot of melody, start with 'Colossal Titan Strife'. It might be a stretch, but Neruaxis plays technical melodic death metal with a brutal touch. Also, take a look at Anata, a band that blends tight, technical (but solo free) riffs that manages to be very heavy while still being able to be melodic and give space to the music. Probably one of the best melodic/burtal/tech bands.

If you want something a bit more out there, listen to Mithras. They play experimental brutal death metal, but mix it with spacey lead guitar melodies that echo from a TON of delay. I can't think of a band that sounds like them at all.

Every band mentioned here is amazing (well, except Severed Savior, but they're still pretty good). Anyway I just found this Greek band Mass Infection, I was surprised at how good they were, and they sound plenty like Hour of Penance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNeL0yp3Nbw

Other than Fleshgod Apocalypse, i like to think that Hour of Penance are a unique band in their own way.

If you're looking for melodic brutal death, maybe Vehemence will do the trick

If you're looking for melodic and brutal I'd say Intestine Baalism.
You also might want to check out Kronos (Fra)

How do Gorod sound anything like Hour of Penance, I can understand Odious Mortem and maybe Origin if they would actually write a riff, but Gorod don't have 1/10th of the intensity of Hour of Penance.

No shit?

He was most likely referring to that fact you said: "I can understand... Origin if they would actually write a riff" but never mentioned that, you know, Brain Drill is even worse in that aspect, and well... you didn't refute their belonging on the list.
