Yes, I'm here again to piss and moan about everything that sucks about "neocrust"! Not really. I will spare you all another rant.

Neocrust bands are a dime a dozen, but one I remember liking a lot for a while was Ballast. I haven't actually listened to their LP in a really, really long time, but I listened to it a lot when I first bought it. They're more stripped down than some bands, but they're in that same vein of modern crust bands blending post-hardcore and Tragedy influences into the music:

Another band I enjoy is Provoked:

Again, they're relatively basic in terms of production, but they still have a lot in common with the more well-known and slickly produced modern crust bands without shoehorning a million Tragedy leads into their songs.

If you haven't guessed, I'm not really into those loud and slickly produced Tragedycore bands, so I don't really have any exactly like Alpinist to recommend, sorry.

Im very much into neocrust.
Alpinist is quite typical of the current german neocrust scene. Check out Lentic waters, Jungbluth, Finisterre, downfall of gaia(they happen to be quite a bit more metal too)

My absolute favorite neocrust band would be Fall of Efrafa though.

A lot, yeah. Try Earth Crisis, GhostxShip and Casey Jones. At first it reminded me of Blessthefall and Slverstein, but it's not that similar actually...

There's a lot of these kind of bands in Jarrod Alonge's misheard lyrics videos, you should check it out, I discovered some bands through those videos (brotip: you gotta filter through a lot of crappy metalcore/deathcore).

thank you so much i enjoyed most of them, sorry just the one more i am really into this kinda stuff atm and just discovered this and i am wondering if there is anything like it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lFRmd79GrM

i really enjoyed Earth Crisis, i am a fan now, very catchy but heavy, exact the same with Ghost X Ship i actually think i prefer them a bit and i love the duel vocalist thing they got going on(similar to the band i posted somewhat).

Casey Jones was most likely my least favourite of the first 3 but still very enjoyable just not quite as catchy as the other 2, blessthefall were pretty good however i was not a huge fan of the cleans and that Silverstein song you posted the hardcore vocals remind me of early(their first ep) the amity affliction which i enjoy so i am happy with that, the cleans are alright too

thank you for the misheard lyrics video i will watch it soon

Yeah, Casey Jones is not that catchy, but they have some great songs. Well, never heard of High Tension before, but I really enjoyed, thanks a lot. It reminded me of Wolf Down, but only because there's a girl singing. You can also try Worst, Fernando Schaefer's (ex-Korzus, ex-Endrah) current band, although I really don't like their lyrics, but the sound is amazing.

Glad you liked the bands mate. Try looking for NYHC, straight edge hardcore or beatdown hardcore, you should find more bands like this.

EDIT: the second vocalist in the GhostxShip song is actually a guest, the vocalist is just the guy with the hoodie. Actually he's not even in the band anymore.

Hey everybody, I have a recommendation to ask for.

Recently I got into the so called neo-crust thing (I generally like crust as such, but I'm definitely not well versed in it). So far, two bands have really gripped me, Tragedy (also the first incarnation of the band, His Hero Is Gonbe) and Alpinist. The latter is pure awesomeness.

I was wondering whether anyone knows of similar bands, but ones that also incorporate some genre/style of metal as well. Also open for some general recommendations (and maybe clarification on neo-crust, whether it's a veritable genre or not and so on).

You can try No Omega:

Finisterre's Bitter Songs and Fall Of Efrafa's Owsla are absolutely great!!
And what about the splits than they have (Geraniüm, Down to Agony)?

Semi-new Gas Chamber stuff. Best punk band ever. If you like d-beat, european hardcore and progressive rock you will like this.

Suicide Machines maybe? There's also Choking Victim and The Arrogant Sons of Bitches, all three of them are really praised skacore bands. Coquettish is a lot more hardcore than ska, so maybe you'll like 'em.

I've never really been into hardcore, but lately I've been enjoying a particular kind of hardcore that is raw, dissonant and chaotic. No idea what it is, or what its particular sub-sub-sub-genre definition is, but here's what's been floating my boat:

Perspex Flesh
https://perspexflesh.bandcamp.com/

The Lowest Form
https://ironlungpv.bandcamp.com/album/n ... -lungs-049

No
https://lavidaesunmus.bandcamp.com/albu ... -exist-mlp

Qualm (a bit on the grindy side, but still in the ballpark)
https://qualmhc.bandcamp.com/

More, please.

That is more or less the default "modern hardcore" sound for bands on the east coast that aren't playing NY brodown fratcore shit, which is to say, there's actually a lot of bands that perform HC like this today. Getting down to the bones of it, the music sounds to my ears like bands inspired by olde tyme Boston area HC* taking it to its logical extreme.

Some bands have tried to make their music seem more "deep" and "serious" by being all artsy and post-modern with their image. That's where dumb joke descriptors like "mysterious guy hardcore" come from. Either way, it turns out a lot of bands from the last decade who've had that label applied to them play a similar style of stripped down, fast and angry HC that's neither "Bro-y" or "Screamo-y", but has a palpable Boston vibe. There's even a fucking tag for it on last.fm: http://www.last.fm/tag/mysterious%20guy%20hardcore

Honestly, I am only familiar with a very small fraction of those bands listed there, so for all I know most of them are crap, but the ones I am familiar with nearly all use that fast, dirty, pissed-off Boston HC template, and I've enjoyed them pretty well, especially Condominium:

*Bands like Jerry's Kids, Gang Green and Siege, all of which I would recommend listening to if you're not familiar with them already.

EDIT: I only just checked out the Qualm link... They sound fucking awesome, and you should totally listen to Rupture and Ripcord and shit if you don't already (skip to 2:22 for instant gratification):

A slightly less obvious recommendation I could offer for something sorta similar would be Filthy Christians, specifically their album, Mean.

Thanks a lot for your answer, and the recs. Condominium, Rupture and especially Siege were all great. I had heard of Siege, but never checked them out before. Cheers!

not really, some female fronted crust bands might have more clean vocals such as Witch Hunt but tis still uncommon.

A couple of months late, but still. Many thanks for these recommendations! Lentic Waters in particular are bloody awesome. Downfall of Gaia and FoF I listened to before as well, it's good stuff but not that impressive, to be honest.

That's too vague... Get classic punk then, but you'll still find some pop punk-ish bands (Ramones, Descendents) and ska-ish (The Clash, Operation Ivy) sounds. Maybe, Social Distortion and Bad Religion?

Also, try skate punk/melodic hardcore like Nofx and Propagandhi.

I'm looking for Japanese thrash/fastcore/pv along the lines of MIND OF ASIAN, ROMANTIC GORILLA, SLIGHT SLAPPERS, CONGA FURY... also stuff that sounds like the Brazilian fastcore band DISCARGA.... not hung up on where the bands are from, as long as they fit in with the bands I've mentioned sound-wise... clearly I love female-fronted stuff or bands with higher-pitch vocals, or dueling guy-girl vocals like certain Aus-Rotten songs featuring Adrienne from Spitboy (not really a spitboy fan, but her vox on the AusRotten songs are fantastic)... You get the point. Can anyone help me out?

Cool, thanks for the recommendations. Yeah, Mind of Asian is amazing.. So Japanese. Discarga is Brazilian and exceptional, too. I hope you enjoy them.

And since we're on the topic of bands not many people have heard of, I'm wondering if you or anyone can tell me if the Japanese band A.G.A.S has any releases other than the songs that appear on the one Terro-Rhythm compilation. Another band 1-minutes also appears on it and seemingly nowhere else. Can't find anything online. And these aren't low-fi amateur sounding bands, either; they're produced pretty nicely and are extremely talented... Especially A.G.A.S... Do they really only appear on one comp and don't have demos or albums of their own?? Can somebody help?
