The first Rancid record is really great. They got kinda soft later but this one rips:

A little more NYHC but still along the lines of early Bad Religion is Cause For Alarm:

Not sure this is exactly what you're looking for but here goes nothing

Hail of Rage and Dissension: old school ripping thrash/hardcore (after the demise of Dissension, Hail of Rage came to life)
The Neighbors: Fastcore veterans from US. Their Negative Attraction LP is one of the best hardcore albums of all time (imo)
Cold World: The one from Austria that has been around since the 80's. hyperspeed hardcore thrash
Mind of Asian: All-female raging japanese thrashy hardcore
Dissent: Thrash/crust band from Texas, USA

All of these bands are sick, especially Cold World and The Neighbors, but it isn't really what I'm looking for. The bands I listed have a lot of groove and slower parts. They're more similar in sound to the slightly moshier New England hardcore bands. Anyway, I'm looking for something in the vein of Darkthrone's newer albums except with more hardcore influence. Any ideas anyone?

Oh, my apologizes then. Well then you could check out this band from Florida, US called Cornered (released 1 7" EP and an CD on 625Thrash)
N.Y. hardcore with blast beats. Here's what Max (625thrash) said about them

Quote:
They sent me their new recording, and the new songs completely destroy the old stuff. Faster, more hardcore, heavier....They had some plans to tour in Fall of 2000, so we thought we should get this going quick. As I said in the description for their debut EP, CORNERED mix really heavy NYHC style with super fast grindcore beats. I love both styles, but always hated the mediocrity of typical, generic NYHC. CORNERED are the only band that have spiced up that style with the speed and energy of fastcore.

Their Self-Titled CD is a beast.
Not really Darkthroneish but they got slower parts, ripping blasting parts, it's groovy and heavy.

Yo that Cornered was fucking intense. I really enjoyed that. The production on the drums was a little iffy on the full length but other than that I thought it was some of the best older hardcore I've heard in a while. As for that Hollow Tongue, shit rips too. Anything mixed or mastered by Brad Boatright and the Audiosiege team is ok in my books.

haha fucking intense might be the correct words to describe them. Very underrated band, no one played hardcore the way they did (at least not any other band i've heard).

Another fast heavy hardcore band that is worth checking out is Stabyouintheheadandeatyourfaceoff (from back when all the bands had long silly names, they shortened it to Stab you in the head on the latest album)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8WqVjxkgO0
They have two 7inches (one split) released before the Killin' Toys cd. The first 7" is more fast, screaming 90's hardcore and the split is more similar to Killin' toys. They also released an LP called Herbs Get Wet and it's kinda a mix of the first 7" and killin' toys.

And The Dream is Dead (also from US) http://thedreamisdead.bandcamp.com/ most of their releases is free to download
The Hail the New Pawn album is highly recommended for everyone.

And if you like really intense punk/hardcore/crust, the japanese has tons of that, not as heavy but fast and crazy.

That band Stab is sick as hell and it's even cooler that they are CTHC. I've recently been trying to find more of that shit to learn about my roots. I'm really into bands like Death Threat and 100 Demons and to a lesser degree Forced Reality.

Mohoram Atta HHIG worship with a touch of Darkthrone. Drummer went onto Fell Voices and Ruin Lust maybe my favorite under the radar bands. Not exactly what you're after, I'm sure, but I think you'd dig them.

A lot of Japanese bands, in fact, with Randy Uchida Group being perhaps the closest thing to G.I.S.M. for obvious reasons.
You should also check out Death Side.

Maybe you'd like Inzest, too:

...though they only released one EP as far as I know.

I need some new music that isn't boring art school drop-out neocrust wank. Can anyone recommend me some current crust bands that are NOT playing the same fucking annoying, generic Tragedycore crap that everyone else does these days? I am so fucking beyond over that bullshit.

I want something that is intensely "pissed", generally fast-paced and sort of unhinged, yet also very catchy, with maybe even some slightly thrashy influences. Nasty, cracking vocals, snappy drumming, catchy riffs and gritty production are all good in my book.

Examples:
Antischism: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-otsNrf6AE
Acid Rain Dance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cy4wZQR1f1U
Pink Turns in Space: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTliBWiA-bY

There's several defunct old bands like these, but I am particularly interested in discovering some that are currently active.
I'm going to be thoroughly disappointed if I hear any of that "epic" dissonant riffing shit.

Extinct/Exist is really good. It's got members of Nuclear Death Terror and I believe Pisschrist. Swordwielder plays great Amebix/Axegrinder worship.

Like dontlivefastjustdie, Syphilitic Vaginas is what you need, total G.I.S.M. worship.
Also what the_raytownian said.

And maybe some of these

Hakuchi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppsD4BsrROM
Warhead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60IoVh5Pb1I
C.F.D.L. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5PwtU8mBvg
Syudan Jisatsu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OT9UHgBY4A

The japanese sure have some the best hardcore in the world.
Oh and Ironfist Tatsushima (GISM drummer) is also in a band called Die You Bastard! (thrashy hardcore + blast beats to oblivion)

I hear you, neocrust is pretty awful.
And no one plays crust like they used too, it's either metalized crust (stenchcore) or some fancy emo crap (neocrust).
Stenchcore is not bad but i prefer the old kind.

And i have not really checked out newer crust, but here are a few i've come across in recent years.
Most of these are more crust/grind, but at least it's not some beautiful, fancy tragedyish crap, just grinding anarchistic crust.

Massgrave from Canada http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONurHmtR-c4
Skunk from Canada (Archagathus playing crust) http://skunkcrust.bandcamp.com/album/split-7-with-devastation-of-life
Bloody Phoenix from USA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLXKBBzSCIs
Accion Mutante from Germany http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5KoAVeh8U4
Versklaven from USA (thrash/crust total Sacrilege worship!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VQrjZ9LUhY
Human Error from Hungary http://human-error.bandcamp.com/

I think all of them are still active. Also both Doom and Active Minds are still active (old timers).

And finally some old hidden gems
Mushroom Attack (Holland)
Contradict (Finland)
Chronic Disease (Belgium)
Jobbykrust (N.Ireland)

I'm also looking for bands similar to Mushroom Attack & Jobbykrust.
No neocrust please!

Wow, I did not expect to see this many replies. I'm sorry I haven't checked back sooner!

I am familiar with some of these bands and I like those that I know a lot, which bodes well for the other suggestions, but I still need to take a moment to check them all out.

Anyway, thanks a lot, everybody. This ought to keep me busy for a moment.

UPDATE:

ExtinctExist were decent. A bit too "stench-y" for what I'm after, but not unpleasant. At least it's not Tragedycore. Truth be told, I don't even particularly hate "neocrust" a la Tragedy, I'm just so tired of it being the default template for seemingly every Crust band of the last 10 years.

I'm already familiar with MG, but they are a top-notch band. I love their Totalitar-ish riffs.

Skunk are new to me. I didn't even realize Archagathus had a side band. The vocals aren't what I expected, but they're pretty cool, though it's all maybe a little too "brutal" (vs. just plain crazy-sounding) for my taste right now. Not bad, though.

Bloody Phoenix is also new. Same goes for them as above. They sound really damn good and heavy though, and I can see myself listening to them more in the future. The guitars sound very "deep" (whatever that means, it's a good thing, like a 12ft swimming pool made of crushing riffs). Really cool, though it's almost Death Metal-ish. I like this a whole lot at any rate. The higher-register vocals are cool, too.

Accion Mutante are a great, classic band, but I haven't explored them very far outside of an EP or two + comp appearances. I love how shitty and rickety the drums sound in that video. Sounds like someone playing actual drums, haha!

Versklaven... some of the riffing/leads are way too modern for my taste, but the vocalist sounds awesome. Totally haggard voice.

I already know Human Error. They're also not quite as "spastic" as what I'm after, but they're one of the better bands playing "contemporary" crust that I know of.

I'm familiar with Mushroom Attack and Jobbykrust, but I haven't heard Contradict or Chronic Disease before, so I will try to check them out. I am not as familiar with MA's music as I am Jobbykrust's, but Jobbykrust are one of my favorite crust bands of all time (it's a shame The Dagda don't really do much for me at all, though they're decent as far as super-stereotypical neocrust is concerned). Seems like Ireland produced a lot of intense, caustic music in the midst of the Northern Ireland conflict.

I've probably posted them a few times in the past, but I really like Starved & Delirious a lot. The vocals are somewhere in between the singer from Versklaven and the singer from Pink Turds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLjYoUDUWOk

Cruelster sounds like a lot of noisy Garage/Punk bands out these days, but it's not bad. TBH, I am as burned out on lo-fi garage rock revivalism as I am Tragedy clones, but they sound pretty cool at least. :)

Paradox sounds like some straight ahead Discore, but it's nice stuff. Almost sounds like they're trying to imitate the Japanese take on D-Beat, which is cool, because I typically love "J-Beat" (lol). They also don't overdo the "b'wowing", dissonant leads, which is a relief. Seems like a hallmark of neocrust is having entire songs built around an endless stream of "B'WOW-WOW-WOW-WOOOOW!" leads. That gets very old after a while.

Thanks again, everybody.

I'd like som recommendations in the vein of Fallout

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSBmbVQwruM

Early Nasum(not further than inhale), early napalm death and Disrupt are the closest thing I've found so I guess grinding hardcore or grindcore with no or little metal influence I guess.

I know that some PV-bands like despise you and Infest as well as newer bands like hatred surge are some what close and have the same energy and intensity but seems to always be in a hurry when playing, I don't mean how fast the play but I don't how to explain any other way.

I don't know mate, how about Skitsystem's sophomore album? It's not as plain HC as Disrupt but it does have that punishing "grinding" feel without being actual grind. Tompa's on the vocals and he rips there.

In other news, I finally checked out Martyrdod's In Extremis and I found myself digging their songwriting chops quite a bit. Sounds a lot like a crossover between the Swedish crust scene and Tragedy's more melodic approach. The production I didn't fell in love with though, a bit too thin and trebly I guess, but I think I might grow accustomed to it. What I wanted to ask though is if the rest of their discography is equally good or if there are any significant changes throughout. Also, why do some people say that they have black metal elements in their music? I don't hear it, so can someone explain it to me like I'm a six year old?!

Skitsystem is good and all but maybe a bit too kängpunk(swedish d-beat).

Martyrdöd is quite consistent so I'd say listen to the rest. The black metal influence could stem from them being dark because I can't really hear the black metal either. Though martyren from their latest(elddop) does contain some almost dissection like stuff. Good album wth some nice swedish folk music influences

You may wanna check out LOATH from Finland. It's full of piss and vinegar.

I'm not sure if anyone has said this before, but Dystopia is really amazing crust/sludge metal. Cool lyrics too, they were popular in both the crust punk scene and the metal scene as well. Anything off the Human = Garbage album is amazing.

Everyone and their mother is familiar with Dystopia. They have a frighteningly obsessive following of suburban kids who are just beginning to branch out from Leftover Crack.

They're awesome at any rate, don't get me wrong. IDK many people who don't like Dystopia, save for the obvious hardline "anti-left" types.

Also, thanks for the recommendation, HaloOfFleas. Loath sounds good, though it's not what I had in mind with my original post. For one, they still do the same kind of skronky Tragedy leads that have completely inundated the style to the point of annoyance.

To their credit, the leads are at least tuneful and used sparingly vs. being used as sound effect shoehorned into every song as some kind of stylistic obligation. They also mix things up a bit with the sludgy parts, which is nice. One of these songs so far (I'm skipping around on the second video) actually has a very Swedeath sound and structure, too, which I didn't expect.

Anyone know of any bands that are considered "crasher crust"?
