I know of DIRT, The Mob, and Jobbykrust. I'll have to check out the others. I actually know two of the members of Trash Talk- I met their singer in Hollywood and got blunted at their show in Reno the other day with them. I'll have to check out the others. The songs you posted were pretty cool and have the album art style I like.

I'm a sucker for that type of album art :P

Have they been able to illuminate you as to why hipsters have such a fucking boner for them?
Them, and OFF! and Crazy Spirit, too...

I think they all sound fine/good, but I really don't understand what the fuck's up with that...

I mean....... If I may get up on my soap box for a bit...

Punk EP's released less than 5 years ago aren't supposed to be "hip to own" or demand double-digit prices, you fucking shitbags!
GET OUT OF PUNK. STOP "INVESTING" IN FLAVOR-OF-THE-MONTH "PARTY BANDS" AND BECOME THE FULL-FLEDGED YUPPIE CAPITALIST HIPSTER COKE-PIG YOU ALWAYS SECRETLY WERE.

Sorry, I had to complain about it since it came up... FWIW, I don't consider the bands to be the problem, just the stupid assholes who turn them into a fucking fauxhemian lifestyle trend. Especially when it's members of the so-called "counter culture" itself flipping records for $20 on eBay to other "punks" who just want the shit as a plastic status symbol once it becomes "essential" according to Pitchfork or whatever the fuck else.

Makes me rage mad-hard, dude... And I never spent more than $6 on a Trash Talk record, so it's not like I'm pissed I "can't afford" or "spent too much on" them or something. It's the principle of it...

Anyway, I kinda figured you'd be familiar with a few of those suggestions, but I dunno what else to suggest... There's so much out there that either isn't worth knowing, and so much you probably already know, you know?

Oh, BTW, if you like Jobbykrust or, especially, Starved and Delirious, you might really like the band Pink Turds In Space (just thought of them).
Really good shebeast-fronted, almost Thrashy, but still catchy/raw/punkish and pissed-off, sarcastic/smart alec-y Crust.

It's weird... A friend of mine kept complaining the entire night about how Pitchfork gave them a 6.0.

I started with noisecore band Today Is The Day, and now I want to find similar bands.
I really liked their '97 release "Temple of the Morning Star", can anyone rec me bands/released on the same veins?
Thanks!

Man Crazy Spirit and all the new HC bands from NYC and especially Williamsburg are super hyped in Rochester. I think CS, Hank Wood and the Hammerheads, Perdition and others suck ass. My friend and I were talking about the Punk's Picnic up here and said there were no good bands around besides those bands and like Badnoids and of course all the punk bands from Rochester that are pretty bad. Made me mad.

Update:

So I have the Vagääsm demo and I'm listening to it right now. It features Sarah from Spoonful of Vicodin on drums and two other rochester natives who have been in the scene a long time. My friends told me it wasn't grindcore/powerviolence and they are right but trying to put a label on this is very hard. It's like weirdo punk, crazy sounding, a good amount of cool groovy riffs and insane vocals. I wish I could share it with some of you guys but if you write to them they will get back to you. PM for the address, this is something you will want.

Yep... I think Crazy Spirit are okay (note that I have a really high tolerance for shit), but they are truly disappointing when you actually hold them up to all the hype surrounding them.

It's annoying, no doubt, probably even more to someone that's actually closer to it (I live in Alabama... so yeah)... I mean, I don't even care enough about them to want their records and therefore be upset about some of the prices I can't/won't pay, but it's just the principle, as I said in my last post.

It's really mind-boggling, and a lot of the favor some of these bands have feels really manufactured and insincere... I think hipster-hamlets like Williamsburg only hype these local/regional pet punk bands because it makes them feel "more legit" to have an "active punk scene"...

That sounds completely absurd, but it's the only conclusion I've been able to reach, and people like that are shallow enough, I'd believe just about anything. I'm on the outside of it, though... so IDK what's true and what's just bitter assumption... Still, fuck all the hype-mongering.

Crazy Spirit do tour quite a lot, it's really no surprise if they've gotten some attention. Even if they are a noisy-er Germs rip off.

That said they were super rad as an opener for Martyrdod.

IDK who started this "they're like the Germs" business, but I've heard it repeated a million times.

TREWTH IS: There can be no "Germs rip-offs"... because any band trying to copy that would be an abject failure.
As I mentioned, I've heard the Germs comparison made an awful lot, but I personally do not hear it... Maybe that's just my Germs-bias, though.

I mean, I guess I can draw parallels if I'm really looking for them based on the suggestion, but I could draw parallels between a lot of bands and CS, really... they aren't particularly unique, hehe.

kinda for Raytowian's post prior, minus the whole "guitar" thing.

For everyone else too,

Caught this guys last night with Much Worse (also worth checking out if you like super fast hc punk) and figure you might dig them. 3 piece band, no guitar just bass drums and vocals. Really rough and noisy. Set was awesome, would get really beatdowny at times. Band looks like skins, so they've got that whole tough guy fight vibe. Anyway, worth checking if you like noisy hc with blown out vocals.

I always think of it as Crossover that's stupid fast and with short songs and will aspire to blast more than crossover. But it seems to get mixed with Fastcore, so I don't know.

Thanks, I have better idea that it is I guess, though it does seem like another word for crossover or type of crossover, and one last question, what is powerviolence?

Ugh, hate having to explain what powerviolence is... here goes.

Powerviolence was a term coined by Man is the Bastard and a bunch of bands that played in California and other places that was similar to thrashcore/fastcore. Bands were bass heavy, even shorter songs, very linear song structures and were very fast at times. They also incorporated a lot of tempo changes and things like noise.

Crossed Out One of the pioneers. This is seriously the blue prints for so many pv bands. So good.

Neanderthal Another pioneering band, features members of Man is the Bastard. You can notice how there are songs that aren't fast like Crawl.

Despise You Wonderful band. Has male female vocals. A lot of metal influences in this band (they cover possessed, sick tremolo riffage).

Spazz Powerviolence that is more light hearted. three piece with each person doing vocals, lots of samples and goofy subject matter. Charles Bronson is similar.

Powerviolence is a lot of things. I see it as a bunch of metalheads that really like hardcore punk. Its not really a combination of metal and punk though like crossover. Check the other pages to get more bands.

I haven't really listened to bucket full of teeth but I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and rec Column of Heaven, their album "mission from god" is noise/power electronics influenced pv/grind based around a serial killer and is fucking awesome

Also check out Primitive by The Endless Blockade (2/4 same members of CoH). Also, their split with Bastard Noise as they do a cool remix of their tracks.

Try Water Torture from Buffalo. and while you're at it, might as well check out thedowngoing from Australia.

Who else is getting a kick out of the new Integrity album? As far as metallic hardcore goes, you can't get much better than these guys. I feel like they can do no wrong!

I remember I saw Ringworm about three years ago, they played The Promise all the way through and they also played some other songs. Both Integrity and Ringworm are great metallic hardcore bands from Cleveland, Ohio. Both also have great occult influenced lyrics.

Intergrity and Ringworm are two of my favorite hardcore bands. New Integrity ripssss. I don't think they can do a bad album. Stoked for new Ringworm too since they are a band that really doesn't do much wrong.

A389 fest will have the 90 line up for Integrity, and I really want to go.

Damn. One thing I've never liked about Integrity is they never play Cleveland much anymore, and now that I'm in Vermont the only band that comes here is Gwar and fill in the blank hippie jam band shit. Curse you Dwid! I'd love to see that show.

Never really "got" integrity, was excited to see them at MDF and found them pretty boring. And never even found anything in Ringworm.

But speaking of metallic hardcore, I'm loving the new Harm's Way. Put up a review over at Cvlt Nation if you're into that kinda thing. One of the few bands that sounds fine using that Swedish tone.

What are the best bands that combined punk with blues? I'm sure such a thing exists.

The Immortal Lee County Killers are the only band I've heard where they are cited as punk/blues. I would say Minutemen too since they had a really cool guitar tone/interesting songs.

Bit of a stretch. But they've got some of Converge's flair, much more hardcore and less metallic/spazzy. Way better band though.

Perth Express

If you dig them you'd do well to poke through the German hardcore scene. Lentic Waters, resurrectionists etc.

If anyone is into over dramatic post-hardcore/screamo I highly recommend the new Touche Amore album. Can anyone help me out with finding bands similar to them? I already know of La Dispute and they are too whiny for me. I really enjoy Frameworks and Gatherer, two up and coming bands in the genre. Other than that I already listen to Loma Prieta, Suis la Lune, and Yaphet Koto.

Can anybody tell which CD version of Extreme Noise Terror "Holocaust In Your Head" can be said to be the "definite" one? I mean as far as sound, mastering, booklet, bonus tracks etc. goes? Or is there no definite version and the CD editions are essentially the same thing?

Just want to say Perth Express is greatness. I got it awhile back. I'll have to check out some of these other bands that are somewhat similar. As if I haven't spent enough money this week.

Gloominous Doom is the only thing I can think of that's even remotely close. Not a huge fan, though.

If there is anything that sounds anything like Corpus Vile (UK) I would really, really like to hear it. It's a huge shame they walked away from the album they walked away from the album they were going to make.

Spoiler: show
