Hey guys
I'm looking for blackgaze bands but not those which play to the usual depressive/atmospheric side
rather I'm looking for bands which merge black with the happy/uplifting/indie side of shoegaze
The only band I can think of now close to what I want is Amethyst Falls, but they only have an EP...
Is there anything like that?

Try Finnr's Cane. They don't necessarily sound "happy" but have some My Bloody Valentine moments for sure. But most of it is really fuzzy bleak blackgaze. I recommend A Portrait Painted By The Sun.

Anyone know of any good mid-paced non traditional sounding BM? Looking for experimental stuff like I Shalt Become, Kult of Taurus or Wormlust but in the mid-tempo range.

Ride for Revenge usually keeps things fairly midpaced. I've only heard King of Snakes and it sort of tows the line between black metal and experimental uhhh....something. But I've heard they get even weirder after that.

I'm digging this, thanks. Like the ritualistic/rhythmic feel of it.

I'm looking for some progressive black metal, not like Ihsahn or Enslaved (good bands, don't get me wrong), but something with a little more edge... something that has the typical raw black metal sound, but with more complex compositional arrangements, or at least changes in tempo and key that make it really interesting... or anything along the lines of Bergthron (Jadgheim or any song from the Wotanskult album) but with less atmospheric elements and more brutality.

^ Maybe Bestia Arcana? The riffing style is not too far removed from the classic Norwegian sound but much more chaotic and technical. There are some atmospheric elements but they are usually separate from the heavy songs. Also, Wormlust is progressive and very brutal though their prog tendencies might lean too much towards the avant-garde for you, but they kick ass. Spektr is good too, big fan of their Cypher album.

I'm looking for moody, hypnotic black/doom along the lines of Dolorian, Verdunkeln and The Ruins of Beverast. Are there other bands who possess the same amount of originality as these guys? Thanks in advance!

I haven't given it a ton of listens, but Elysian Blaze's Blood Geometry has some real Ruins of Beverast vibes.

Midnight Odyssey have a few doomy parts on their latest album. It's much lighter sounding than the likes of Elysian Blaze or The Ruins of Beverast, but Midnight Odyssey are one of the more unique acts out there today.

^ Brown Jenkins is kind of one-dimensional, not bad but the vocal approach and the variations didn't quite strike me.

Ethereal Shroud is alright but probably more similar to ColdWorld and Nortt with a bit of Elysian Blaze than Dolorian, Verdunkeln or TRoB.

I liked Midnight Odyssey, not particularly what I was looking for. Way too cosmic but I dig the harmonized clean vocals and doomy riffing which is not too buried in the semi-clean, semi-lo-fi production.

Maybe if I specify a few tracks as references then I guess it would be easier for you guys to recommend.

Gloomy, eerie clean vocal choirs and gregorian chant like approach similar to Verdunkeln is highly preferred.

I am looking for black metal albums which have similar guitar sound to this song by I Shalt Become: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLF0v5hb3GA
The sound which I am looking for is the one at the beginning of the song, which I like to describe as razor blade sharp. I know that this sound is often used in DSBM, but it is often altered and I would like to find more music with the guitar sound as close to this one as it can get.

Hello, I'm looking for the music of black metal musicians when they play in a more purely folk style a la Wardruna and Songs of Grief and Solitude by Drudkh.

I'm looking for epic, mid-tempo black/thrash with a high dose of catchiness and pref. also gangshouts like in
Deströyer 666's "The Calling". To me this is quite a unique sound. Any ideas…?

Give the track "Still Reborn" from Black Anvil a shot. The rest of the album features gang shouts occasionally, but the one I mentioned blows the rest away.

I'm certainly not linking you, but I'll list you a few random and diverse, yet mandatory bands, assuming you are aware of the 2nd wave greats like mayhem, burzum, gorgoroth, immortal etc. (btw your request was way too vague actually):

kvist
sorhin
early graveland
vlad tepes
horna
warloghe
sacramentum mcd/debut cd
shining
mysticum
grand belial's key
enthroned
aura noir
goatpenis
unholy
esoteric
abigor
early belphegor
...

Thanks. The track quite good yet lacking sth I find in "The Calling" (the stomping, military-like epicness?). But Black Anvil are on my radar now :)
Any more, guys?

Winter in the Blood are quite a bit more riffy than Drudkh, but they have a somewhat similar naturalistic, introspective feel. Walknut's album Graveforests and their Shadows is sort of like a grimmer version of Autumn Aurora.

Are there any bands that use a violin a lot in their songs?

Not symphonic really just traditional instruments and a violin.

The band's sound is quite divisive as they are very experimental and include many elements outside of black metal but it's worth checking out Britain's A Forest of Stars and in particular their latest two albums A Shadowplay for Yesterdays & Beware the Sword You Cannot See as they often include violin alongside other traditional instruments.

An example:

A newer release that uses some violin is the newest Profezia album. It didn't really work for me, but maybe it'll float your boat.

Well, there's Urgrund, a sort of D666, Jr. No gang shouts, though. They may be well known, I'm not sure.

My personal favorite song by them "Sea Dogs." Love that Iommi-styled riff.

Alright, recently I've started listening to Ramlord:

Their sound sounds to me like a mix of black metal, crust and a touch of sludge, and I think they're nailing this sound completely. Is their any bands that sounds similar?

Yeah they're a really good band with an unusual sound.

Not sure of any bands that sound just like that but if you like the black metal/grindcore/crust/sludge kind of mix or raw black metal you might also like:

Mistress
Fukpig
Witch In Her Tomb
Raw Moon
Willing Feet
Deadly Noise Crew
Slavehouse
Black Beasts

Just did a review/interview with a pretty excellent, obscure BM band from Lexington Kentucky called Apochryphal Revelation. For fans of raw black metal in the vein of Profanatica, early Sepultura, and the old Greek scene. Check it out, especially the track "Final Saint Befouled". Some seriously awesome, gripping stuff.

Can anyone rec me bands/albums that sound and feel like Bathory's "In nomine Satanas"? Essentially, blackened Viking (doom-ish?) metal with a strongly Satanic atmosphere to it.

Thank you!

I really enjoyed some of Marduk's most recent album Frontschwein, but found it a bit uneven. I dig the style though a lot. Anything similar out there?
