I'll throw my two cents into the ring also. Why not?

Behexen - By The Blessing of Satan
Armagedda - Only True Believers
Ondskapt - Dödens evangelium
Tortorum - Katabasis
Graupel - Am Pranger
Aosoth - Arrow in Heart
Christicide - Christicide
Har Shatan - His Legacy
Tsorer - Return to Sodom
Myrkr- Black Illumination

And loads and loads more...

Going to throw in a mini-album as well.

Matricide - Holy Virgin

I'll put some of mine here. This is going partly by how many plays I have on last.fm, so it might be missing some more recently discovered or less frequently listened gems. I also tried to pick some different ones, so it won't be all Finnish black metal from last decade or anything.

Horna - Sanojesi äärelle
Vitsaus - Sielunmessu
Misþyrming - Söngvar elds og óreiðu
Verge - Hatemagic
Skogen - Svitjod
Devouring Star - Through Lung and Heart
Todtgelichter - Was bleibt...
Altar of Plagues - Mammal
Sargeist - Feeding the Crawling Shadows
Korgonthurus - Marras

Well, half of it is Finnish black metal from the last decade. :P

I'll also throw in a mini-album as an extra: Teloch - Descent-Ascend

I just got Karisma by Sabbat over the weekend. I've had a really hard time turning it off. I think after The Dwelling this must be my second favorite LP of theirs. It was the only one I didn't have/hadn't heard. I have read the reviews over and over so I thought I went in with a pretty realistic idea of what to expect but I was blown away. They completely let Temis off his leash with this one. He puts on a masterclass. I enjoy Sabbat the most when they create longer, nuanced songs so this 6-track format was perfect for them to stretch their legs. Den of Hades, Samurai Zombies, Harmageddon, and Japanese Revelation are the standouts for me...I guess it's a little ridiculous to spotlight 4 tracks from a 6 track album. The whole thing is killer. God damn.

Ooh, I would never miss a chance to list 10 10/10 black metal albums! I like a lot of the albums you guys listened, a few I have never heard of which I will have to check out asap. Mentions of Graupel, Warloghe, Armagedda, very good stuff I haven't listened to in a while. I'll try to add some that nobody mentioned yet.
in alphabetical order!:

Azaghal - Perkeleen Luoma
Baptism - Morbid Wings of Sathanas
Djevel - Saa raa og kald
Dodsferd - Cursing Your Will to Live
Endstille - Dominanz
Eternal Majesty - From War to Darkness
Koldbrann - Moribund
Old Wainds - Nordraum
Pagan Hellfire - The Will of Night
Urgehal - Goatcraft Torment

EP: Behexen - From the Devil's Chalice
Split: Vlad Tepes / Belketre
probably the best Demo: Horna - Hiidentorni
cheers!

Those are almost nothing alike so what exactly are you looking for? Just atmospheric folk black metal with great clean vocals?

What are ten 10/10 black metal albums in your opinion? trying to discover some albums I have missed or went over my head.
Batushka - Litourgiya
Mgla - Exercises in Futility (though With Hearts Towards Non is growing on me more)
Urfaust - Trúbadóirí Ólta an Diabhail (one of the most amazing live album)
Gorgoroth - Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt
Deathspell Omega - Paracletus
Sargeist - Let the Devil in
Goatmoon - Finnish Steel Storm
Satanic Warmaster - Carelian Satanist Madness
Beherit - Engram
Mutiilation - Remains of a Ruined, Dead, Cursed Soul

My list would actually replicate most of those namely Mgla (everything they have done, basically, especially those two), Batushka, Sargeist, Goatmoon, Satanic Warmaster and Beherit. I bought 'Remains of a ruined...' a while ago but haven't actually got round to hearing it yet.
Gorgoroth I'd go with 'Pentagram', and I'd have to add Nadiwrath 'Circle of pest' and the newly discovered Antimateria album, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Recently been looking for tolkien inspired black metal and found Osgiliath's Ainulindalë.

Can anyone recommend something similar that's maybe a bit better in terms of musicianship, don't mind the lo-fi sound.
Some sort of folky(but not upbeat or cheesy)/medieval black metal with some gentle female vocals every now and then and maybe some flute or synth?

Keep it fairly raw and some dungeon synth or dark ambient influence wouldn't go amiss. Not symphonic or the kind of epic black metal that just sounds like power metal with bm astethic.

Use this for reference although I'm looking for something 'blacker' than this.

Thanks.

Also if anyone happens to have a rip of the aforementioned tape that they don't mind sharing I would greatly appreciate it.

Summoning , Caladan Brood (based on Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen fantasy novels), Bal-Sagoth, Falls of Rauros (maybe) instantly came to my mind. Search for "epic black metal" and you will surely get what you are looking for. Hope this helps.

I've tried summoning several times before but have never enjoyed them. Ill check out the others though but if they're similar to summoning I'm not sure that's quite what I'm looking for. Thanks though.
Edit - Bal-Sagoth and FoR are quite interesting. Not quite what I was searching for but I'm glad you mentioned them. Thanks.

I've edited my original post to hopefully make it a little clearer on what I'm searching for.

Shadowland and vordven were quite interesting. Thanks.
I find fangorns style too cheesy for me.

Anything more akin to the Osgiliath track I posted?

I posted this request in the DM rec thread:

My previous request went ignored maybe because it was way too unusual. Here it goes again nonetheless, I've been looking for a band like Nile, Melechesh, Behemoth etc. that uses oriental/middle-eastern melodies but with a jihadi/terrorist sort of vibe running through the overall presentation, themes and lyrics. Imagine shady Arabic dudes spewing shit about beheadings, suicide bombings and whatnot. I'm sure somebody somewhere has done this sort of thing, it's too perfect as a death metal concept...in my mind atleast.

Perhaps something like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y38LSKONET4.....Al Jihaaaaaaaaaaadddd! Haha!

Nothing so far on that front. Any contribution is welcome, doesn't matter if it's not pure death metal, anything from black metal to black/death or 'war' metal will do. Thanks!

Now, I would be eternally grateful if anyone could point out bands/albums that sound A LOT like Det som engang var (the album). By that I mean: a melodic and more mournful interpration of first-wave black metal (a la Destruction, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Samael, etc.), a lot of broken chords and arpeggios, organic production, cool instrumental guitar workouts like Dominus Sathanas (yes I know that's on Aske and yes it does sound like DSEV) and Naar himmelen klarner, mid-pacedness, and a general fantasy/melancholy vibe. Pieces like Key to the Gate, En ring til å herske, and Lost Wisdom sum that sound up nicely, though it's pretty indescribable and it's not even heard on bands that worship Burzum like Inferi or Blood Red Fog.

Only ISB come close IMO, and even then there's not enough of that old-school sound in them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3jtjMbOqGw

I might be basically asking for a copycat band/album, really.

By the way, yes I know I have made similar requests in the past but those were just about a single element of this album, rather than the whole package.

EDIT: This song approaches the broken chords in a manner akin to the album as well. Posted that one before when I asked for dissonant BM but then I realised it was a shitty example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAsyTcnPxjU

Can anyone recommend bands/albums similar to Zyklon B's Blood Must Be Shed? Everything about that EP is awesome, but the highlights for me are the vocals and production quality which is neither crappy nor too polished. Hope I'm not being too specific, so let me know if you have any suggestions.

I also like these guys so something like that would be interesting too.

How about:
War | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRweb9BB2LA
Sadistik Exekution | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVqwlFbOWNA
Tsjuder | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxvzRB0Ajew

Marduk, 1349, Destroyer 666 (maybe a bit different) are pretty obvious, still throwing it out there.

Thanks, will check them out. It also hit me that Black Legion of SS kinda sounds like Baptism by Fire ripoff, so I'll definitely give Marduk another go.

if you're into demo stuff, you might enjoy sarin's ...für die welt demo (happens to be the only release I've reviewed on here) or the uranium 235 demo (godkiller project). come to think of it, maybe niden div. 187 too. fast swedish stuff also, but to be honest, nothing comes close to the sheer ferocity that the zyklon-b mcd is.

Yeah, that's slowly dawning on me too. That album is like the perfect BM sound to my ears, and I wish there were more bands that could pull it off. And that lineup... damn.

So about a month ago Abigor posted a new version of "Dawn of Human Dust" with the same guitars and drums but new mix, re-recorded vocals, and re-recorded bass.

https://luzifer.bandcamp.com/track/dawn-of-human-dust

I'm not sure how I should feel about this.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled that they're doing this. Would much rather just have a re-release than a re-recording.

Hey guys, need some help here please!

I'm fairly unfamiliar with the whole post-black scene and have been so far by choice more so than an actual dislike of it (more like don't know don't care really). Thing is, I discovered Hope Drone a while back and I absolutely adore Cloak of Ash! I'm also fairly deep into Downfall of Gaia though they do have their fair share of neocrust on the older stuff, which I really don't mind though. So what I wanted to ask was if anyone can give me a starters manual into the post-black scene. Known bands and which different styles exist, best albums/bands in each particular approach to each style, stuff like that.

Now, I wouldn't mind more direct recommendations in the vein of what Hope Drone are doing in the album (and partially in the EP), as well as stuff more into the post/neocrust crossover that DoG do. I prefer later DoG but I don't mind if recs go farther into the past since I'm also a fan of neocrust. But above all I'd like to delve into the post-black scene and see extensively what it has to offer.

Anyone care to help out a noob?! ;)

Neocrust? Don't know what that really means but Young and in the Way mix crust & black metal together. Also give Wolfbrigade & Tragedy a try.

For post-black metal (now I'm not a big fan of this genre but these albums made huge waves) :
Panopticon - Roads to the North
Myrkur - M
Sólstafir - Svartir Sandar
Wolves in the Throne Room - Celestial Lineage
Agalloch - The Mantle

Also checkout ColdWorld's new album.

Neocrust is an umbrella term for crust bands that tend to flirt with atmosludge/post-rock/whatever. See Fall of Efrafa for reference. ;)

Thanks for posting but I'm familiar with all of those bands, in one way or another. I was hoping for a bit of spoon-feeding/discussion kind of like "you see, post-black began with abc, went on with def, and nowadays it's xyz", to cover up all the possibilities of the scene. I know a few big names and all but I don't have an historical background on that particular scene/style.
