IamDBR, you might want to post your recs in this thread for two reasons
1. It might help someone else looking for those kinds of bands
2. Other people giving recommendations can see what bands have been recommended already.

It's basic help thread etiquette, and not too hard to figure out.

The obvious thing would be to check out Unanimated and Vinterland next, I suppose.

We were talking via the private message thing but I see your point. Here is what I recommended him:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some of these are melodic black/death metal hybrids others are more straightforward melodic black metal.

Unanimated:

Shortly been listening very much brutal, primitive & black/death metal like Von, Blasphemy, Archgoat, Goatpenis and old Beherit. If someone could recommend more bands like that.

Fear not my brother!

Behemoth:
And The Forests Dream Eternally (1994):

Not too sure about this one but worth a try regardless.

Sventevith (Storming Near the Baltic) (1995):

Closest thing I can recall atm.

I just found this obscure gem, I reckon you should give it a shot too:

You guys want a song that has the perfect mix of epic, raw, melodic, aggressive and catchy check this out.
It came up on my player at the gym the other day after not listening to it for many years, but I recognized the intro as turning into a really awesome song.

You beat me to Caveman Cult, IamDBR. It doesn't get much more short and brutally to the point than that.

I'd also recommend Diocletian's Gesundrian. Fucking savage album.

Was listening to this a few days back, pretty brutal shit. Though I can't remember anything that stood out to me but perhaps that can be said for a lot of these bands.

This is a bit late, but thanks to everyone who recommended me blackened death bands. Are there a lot of bands that utilize that style or is it a really shallow sub-genre?

I must have overlooked your request. I guess the most popular bands in this style are newer behemoth and belphegor, even though I personally think their newer stuff is kind of lacking substance and tries to compensate for that by modern production values and stuff.
anyway, lots of good stuff in this vein from sweden, you should definitely check out necrophobic. the satanic blasphemies comp features early material (some of their best), while my personal fave full-length is darkside, which is surely their most black metal album. great band. maybe also lord belial, cardinal sin and then there was another band from sweden whose name I don't remember atm for the life of me. I think they had only one album out on no fashion. maybe I'll remember later.
you could also try god dethroned from holland, I'd recommend the grand grimoire.

EDIT: the moaning was the band that escaped me first.

The Moaning is awesome! Great rec. Also, I'm listening to the Marduk album now and I like what I hear. As far as Behemoth goes, where should I begin? I'm only familiar with The Satanist and I don't really like that.

I haven't had time to listen to God Dethroned yet, so I'll give them a go soon.

@TrueDynamite; check this out.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

If you are looking for blackened death metal with a somewhat technical flair & impressive guitar playing try this:
Weeping Birth:
The Crushed Harmony (2015) | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pz-6cQHv7k
Anosognosic Industry Of The I (2008) | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4OUmcnb4hU (I like this one better)
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

More in the epic & symphonic (nothing too overly cheesy) vein with awesome riffage & higher vocals:
Profundi:
The Omega Rising (2006) | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpqN2y-l-Xg
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Flamenco-infused slightly blackened tech death, somewhat similar to Nile but they have their own thing going on:
Impureza:
El Nuevo Reino De Los Ahorcados (2013) | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZOhvEs5wr4
La Iglesia Del Odio (2010) | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sB4pfgKBR9M
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Mostly mid-tempo blackened death with middle-eastern folk instrumentation, pretty original stuff:
Narjahanam:
Wa ma Khhufiya Kana A'atham (2013) | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j46Piu5e8pM
Undama That'hur Al Shams Mn Al Gharb (2007) | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvlMU_-Mars

Weeping Birth is pretty cool and I quite like the idea behind the Flamenco influence. I just wish they utilized it throughout the song instead of playing a little hit here and there. I don't really like the vocals that have the processed(?) sound. I don't know a lot about harsh vocals, so I'm not sure if that's the correct term.

Despite factoring in the demanding nature of the music, I think this is pretty close to the album sound:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wabFs43Z1ts

I understand what you are saying as modern death metal tends to have (over) layered vocals & a generally clean production. Having said that, some vocalists are legit beasts, in & out of the studio. Check out old school death metal bands (or osdm as it is often referred to) for more organic production & vocals.

Found this awesome new band today on NCS:
Zornheym (Sweden)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7qiAL5iY-o
https://non-serviam-records.bandcamp.co ... silent-god

Zornheym is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Zorn, whose resume includes time with Dark Funeral, Devian, and another personal project, Aktiv Dödshjälp. The band’s line-up is completed by vocalist Bendler from Facebreaker, guitarist and musical arranger Scucca, and Diabolical‘s drummer Angst.

Currently not on the archives.

I'm looking for albums similar to Tsjuder's Demonic Possession. Something that is brutal and catchy; there has to be variation between the fast, blasting bits and punkish, Darkthrone/Celtic Frost riffs. Also a thick, meaty guitar tone and overall production is nice - nothing too reedy. I wasn't too thrilled with Desert Northern Hell because the production got too thin and the riffs weren't quite as good, I thought. I know this is an odd request because Desert Northern Hell is usually the preferred Tsjuder album, but bear with me. Here's a song from the previous album which is "brutal" black metal with varied riffs and a groovy, catchy sensibility: Demoner av Satans Rike.

Hit me with some black metal songs or albums with some riffs that consist of a series of creepy notes slowly plunked out--preferably notes that are not very high-pitched, but something that sounds more midranged, like the theme about midway through "Life Eternal" (4:27-4:36) or the riff on this song:

Pretty much all old Manes material sounds like this and fits your description of being "slowly plunked out".

Man you crazy! Desert Northern Hell rules! Anyway, I think I can help you out a bit here...

First up, not sure who or what you know, so I'm going to recc blind.

From Sweden I give you Armagedda - more specifically their Only True Believers album. This is somewhat more stripped back than the Tsjuder track posted, but this pretty much fits the bill. Great stuff.

Poetry From a Poisoned Mind

Emperor From the Eternal Dark

Next up is Tortorum. This is from their debut Extinctionist, but goddamn. This fucking rules pretty hard, plenty of variation and brutal with it. Riffs everywhere.

In Pestilence Majesty

All Mercy Devoured

Norway's Urgehal definitely should be mentioned, especially their Goatcraft Torment album. Brutal, catchy, powerful and chock full of riffs. So fucking good.

Risus Sradonicus

Nefastus Nex Necis

Zarathustra from Germany are well worth a mention in this context as well for the Contempt EP (and second album Perpetual Black Force), with some meaty, catchy riff work. Good stuff indeed.

Slave Morality

Become Eternal

Again from Norway is Slavia. Not sure if the production on this beasty will suit what you're after, not reedy, but more... raw, here you go anyway. This is some pretty nasty, groovy stuff.

Not Even Human Fucking Beings (dat riff after the "ugh!" )

Divided By Three

yes. at least weekly I reckon. seriously. sometimes though seldom even without playing that motherfucker of a record. clearly one of the (less than a ) handful of 100/100 black metal records.

Before finding out about Dissection in general, I thought a whopping majority of black metal was basically primitive as fuck with samey tremolo 'riffing' & repetitive blasting, except for the biggest 2nd wave Norwegian bands like Mayhem, Darkthrone, Emperor, Burzum, Gorgoroth etc. & a few 'blackened' bands like Anaal Nathrakh, Melechesh, Summoning etc.

Intrigued by the cover & the ridiculous shit Jon pulled I thought I need to hear this band because they seem pretty hardcore . As soon as I heard Where Dead Angels Lie I was fucking sold, you know that feeling when everything clicks & it just takes over your mind. That whole album is top-notch shit. Thanks to them I found out about the underrated Swedish melodic black metal scene. They also (albeit indirectly) led me deeper into black metal from there I would find atmo/ambient bm, black/grind & other crazy shit.

I had a real moment with it last night. I was cycling through some really dark/evil albums and suddenly decided I needed to hear that one. I couldn't even follow it after it was over, switched to some old Candlemass.

It was sort of the opposite for me, DBR. I had been a black metal fan for years but never checked out Dissection specifically because the melodic tag freaked me out. Then one day a buddy said "Do you want my copy of Storm of the Light's Bane? It sounds like black metal influenced by Maiden I think you'd love it.". What a fucking undersell that was. Even the LYRICS are perfect. One of the few black metal albums that I read along to every single time. The songcraft is just next level though. The freezing, hellishly barbed riffing with constant melodic interplay and perfectly woven transitions. They were absolutely perfect on this album.

Who are the new Dissection in your opinion? Some people say it's Watain...please don't, nothing against the band but just don't. Having said that, never got the Watain hate or the worship for that matter. Any 'pure' meloblack bands so to speak without (much) death metal vox & riffage? I know Dissection had some melodeath tendencies but still.

For Blackened Punk, check out Scum. For Black n' Roll, check out Carpathian Forest, Darkthrone's mid period and Satyricon's last four albums.

I'm clueless! I've never heard a note by Watain. I know the first recommendation for Dissection-alikes is always Dawn. I hope they're as good as everyone says but I'm in no rush to find out. Storm of the Light's Bane is still so new to me relatively speaking. I'm not looking for others I just want to drink deep the dark on this one.

Edit: Actually I confused Dawn with Sacramentum, although they're both knee-jerk recommendations for Dissection-sounding stuff and I haven't heard either one. But yeah, it's the Sacramentum debut that I'm really excited to hear (eventually).

Great! Thanks for the rec.

Anyone have any recommendations for black metal albums with a lot of nice blast beats? I know that's not an uncommon thing, I'm wondering if anyone can think of any that stand out to them though.

As others have mentioned Dark Funeral, Marduk, 1349

Negator immediately came to mind

Infernal War

1879

Was discussing this before on the thread, I need some modern melodic black metal bands preferably without melodic death influences. I am already familiar with the 90s Swedish scene. Thanks!

Der Weg Einer Freiheit, especially the debut. Stellar is less melodic, but it's their best album by some margin, and possibly my AOTY 2015.
