Haha, Thrones was the first one I heard and it hit me right away. It makes me want to just turn off the sun, this annoying light has no business here! I guess I'm going backwards with the discography since I haven't managed a complete listen of Yearning or Ferd yet, but what I heard was excellent all the same.

Hey drodi you will probably be interested to know that Fog has put out a new Norman Shores album. I have only got to listen to the cd once (so much shit to check out!) and it sounded really good.

Enjoy folks.

What black metal bands/albums show the most Celtic Frost influence?

Try Vreid's album V. It's got to be amongst the best melodic rock 'n' roll black metal albums. Also maybe check out Varathron. They're not exactly melodic, but they're a lot more riff-driven and musically visceral than a lot of the rest of the genre. I've been really enjoying their 2014 album Untrodden Corridors of Hades lately.

I'm looking for some symphonic black metal similar to Dimmu Borgir's Enthrone Darkness Triumphant or Alghazanth's latest albums.

For those of you who like wintry, atmospheric black metal, Severoth's debut on Werewolf Promotion sounds pretty promising.

Hey mate, sorry for the late reply but I've been busy with real life lately. :P

I'll check it out, still don't know when though. I'm walking in the light nowadays, if you catch my drift. ;)

I would say Fenriz from Darkthrone has the biggest hard-on for Celtic Frost. A Blaze in the Northern Sky maybe in particular. Gorgoroth at times. Mayhem's early stuff.

Where did I speak of similarities when it came to sound? Also, Cascadian? Hahaha. No.

I just assumed you were implying a similarity because that's usually how recommendations work. "Oh, you like Dissection? Check out Unanimated or Thulcandra." If you were just throwing that out there, that's fine. And I haven't listened to that Wedrujacy Wiatr since it came out, so my memory of it may be faulty. *shrug*

Anyway, I just recently discovered this awesome Swedish band called Panphage who almost remind me of a Swedish Taake or something, with really great folky sounding riffs but with a more Swedish take on the melodies. They're going to be releasing their debut album and a split later this year, so here's a track from the upcoming album.

Yes, an assumption. Similarities go beyond sound. Feeling-wise, for instance. Arckanum's 'Fran Marder' would go perfectly hand in hand with Drudkh 'Forgotten Legends', even though they don't sound similar.

Similar to that song specifically? I have heard, and enjoy others, but havent found any on my own that match Satyricons polish and groove.

Check out Midnight. They're a lot less poppy than that Satyricon song, but they're better off that way.

Looking for good Transilvanian Hunger worship. Especially if they resemble the tragic but adventurous melodies of En As I Dype Skogen(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36Z8KzeWGBU) or En Vind Av Sorg(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvrSnmSDHQY). Mutiilation's song Transylvania(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_A0JkxVBNc) would be a good example of what i'm looking for. Other similar albums might be Deathspell Omega's split with Clandestine Blaze(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4xNvCjighU), Isvind's Dark Water's Stir(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnletxJn5uI) and Branikald's Varg Fjerne a Tornet.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfiKU3OMmak)

Edit: also the Sorcierr Des Glaces song Night Throne: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQPbil0X5bc

It's a stretch to call them worship but I think you might really enjoy Mion's Hill out of Norway. Some young kids making very ugly music.

Check out the Neige Eternelle album. It's basically a mash-up of the "unholy trinity" but there's certainly some very Transilvanian moments.

@Lord Tempestuous
Those are a couple of my favorite early DT songs. I'm a couple days late but, here are some similar things I think. Kind of just picking random songs here:

Morthond only had 1 album unfortunately but it's great stuff in vein of early DT

Basilisk - I absolutely fucking love this song

Evil has some seriously kick ass songs in early 90's black metal worship fashion

Warwulf - his ideals are questionable, but I don't really care the music is good

Satanic Warmaster's early stuff (check out last song on Strength and Honour album as well)

Aboriorth - Great 1 man band highly unknown/underrated

Abyssic Hate - depressing stuff, but kinda fits the requirements

Ravencult sounds like what DT might sound like today if they stuck with their early BM sound and evolved it

EDIT: 1 more Sapthuran - simple, minimal, good riffs.

So, I'm not too knowledgeable on this kind of stuff so bear with me... I'm looking for black metal bands who have riff structures similar to death metal, but don't utilize the ultra low-tuned guitars and deep growls. Basically I'm looking for technical black metal with less atmosphere and a more riff-oriented sound. Bands like Ljå and Between the Frost... Deathspell Omega is my absolute favorite but they're in a whole separate realm, and I doubt there are any similar bands that I haven't heard of yet... Any suggestions?

Much obliged...

Well stuff that's obscenely technical like DSO and Decrepit Birth are rare but there are some bands who manage to come close while having amazing riffs.
I would suggest the new Besatt album first and foremost, followed by stuff like Draconis Infernum, Inquisition, Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, Lugubre, Old Wainds (newer albums) the new Taran album, Vredehammer, Kult Ov Azazel. I know there's more obscure stuff I'm not thinking of but some of those should work for now.

EDIT: Barshasketh should have been the first band on this list, very similar to DSO in their technique, but way more riff driven. They use 3 guitars at once and sometimes a 4th for solo sections or what not and they have a real drummer. Also Dodecahedron and Ascension might work although I haven't listened to them a whole lot.

How about a semi-local band to me?

The vocals and sometimes guitars are still on the lower side, but they definitely stay mostly in the "buzzsaw tremolo" realm for the most part, with more of a choppy death metal approach tempering it. They bring to mind to me a more death-metally Emperor.

No prob, actually Vredehammer should prolly be higher on that list also, they came up on random play this morning and they're really good, fairly tech black metal.

This is pretty cool. I think I've found something you and others might dig as well. Fin's upcoming album sounds a bit better than their previous work.

Recently there's been the Ignis Haereticum and Devouring Star albums and Barshasketh had a split with a band whose name I've already forgotten.. their side of it might be your thing though. From Iceland don't miss Carpe Noctem, they're even a bit darker than Svartidaudi.

On top of that the French scene is worth checking out. I strenuously recommend Aosoth and VI.

Misthyrming's debut is pretty good and along a similar vein. You'll probably dig stuff like Thantifaxath and the newest Nightbringer too, if you haven't given any of these a shot.

Thanks! I'll look into those. I completely forgot about Nightbringer, I haven't listened to them since Apocalypse Sun came out. Damn.
