I've come to love most of the pagan BM I've been exposed to, and I feel pretty ignorant of this style and want to learn about more bands. I like Odal, Hagal, Arckanum (not really pagan lyrically), Kampfar, Horn (if they are considered Pagan), Kroda, Poccolus, and Heimdalls Wacht. Haven't been able to get into Primordial for some reason.

Though this is meant to be a very general request, bonus points if the stuff is dark with a lot of tremolo picking. And obscure stuff is very welcome.

Nordisches Blut, to name one.

Wolfchant?

Maybe forefather. Worth checking out even if not what you want exactly

If you like "Burzumic" black metal, I suggest checking out the Pagan black metal band Peordh. Wonderful debut album. Very obscure stuff. Very dark and atmospheric, too.

You should probably check out Zpoan Vtenz as well, if you haven't already. Ramûnas Peršonis from Poccolus is in both bands.

You should definitely check out Wolfhetan, a side-project of one of the Odal members. Their debut Entrückung is a brilliant pagan black metal release, very aggressive and filled with wonderful tremolo leads and extremely interesting drumming. It's a little short which is a bit of a downfall, but the material more than makes up for this. Very atmospheric and dark and very, very good.

what exactly is pagan black metal? isn't it generally a more unpolished, necro sound with pagan lyrics?

I always thought it was black metal that incorporated elements of pagan/viking metal. To the OP, try Manegarm and Arkona (Pol).

Oooo, I utterly hate this band.

I think for pagan stuff check out Manegarm- though its more polished then typical black metal. Negura Bunget is almost obligatory, as would be Taake (possibly) and Wyrd and Yggsdrasil. The latter bands latest album is awesome...

Also seconding the "In Autumnal Fog" compilation. Excellent range of pagan styles...
