Lately, I've been listening to alot of Marissa Nadler. She plays a very soft, almost dreamlike, melancholic folk music that is drenched in reverb and gives off the impression that a ghost is moaning behind beautiful guitars.

Is there any other folk artists like this? I know of the band Mom and Bon Iver, and in some cases, even Devendra Banhart or Nest, but beyond that, I'm clueless.

Would prefer if there is soft female vocals similar to Nadler, but anything in the gloomy vein works.

The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud's "Amara Tanta Tyri" could be right up your alley. Dreamy, melencholic, reverb drenched, other effects, and rather melencholic. Yep, this is a great rec.

There's this Romanian 'pagan folk' (not folk metal) band I used to listen to called The Moon and the Nightspirit who give off very ethereal, mystical vibes. They're not esoteric like say Negura Bunget, but very melodic and haunting. In particular the track Örökké from their 2007 album Regõ Rejtem is beautiful, it sounds like a haunted forest but totally peaceful.

Thank you so far. Everything has been good, minus In Gowan Ring. I'm not big on neofolk, and I should have stated that. The majority of neofolk I've heard so far is too repetitive and bland.

Buffy Sainte-Marie was good. I have an album of hers, but have yet to listen to it. I guess I should get around to that.

Natural Snow Buildings is some strange folk / drone hybrid. But it's absolutely fucking wonderful, they run the gamut from head splitting droneoise to beautiful finger picking guitar and soft vocals. As far as I can tell, the vocals are used like another instrument, with mostly indistinct chanting sort of vocals rather than normal lyrics. Check out Shadow Kingdom if you want, It's a double album. I've yet to explore the second CD much.
