Let's say I'm not impressed by either Candlemass or Solitude Aeturnus after years of trying to "get" into them. It's good music, I can say that much, but it lacks the x-factor to make it into constant rotation on my stereo. Is there an epic doom metal band that you think could help me overcome this bias?

Solstice - The New Dark Age should do you wonders ;)

If you like anything by Solstice than try out Scald from Russia who play folk/pagan influenced epic doom metal.

You could also try a newer band like Forsaken who play a similar style of doom metal as well.

Maybe this is too obvious but Skepticism, listed as "funeral doom metal" on this site are pretty epic sounding, Alloy would be a good place to start.

If folk/pagan influenced stuff could be considered epic, then I throw Gods Tower into the mix. Fairly epic, very original stuff.

I really wouldn't lump Skepticism in with a group referred to as "epic".

Here:

Doom Metal Lists

All you have to do is pick your genre in that little drop down box in the upper left hand corner and the site will give you all bands of that corresponding doom genre and a short little description of each.

Personally, I would recommend Heathendom's Nescience and Thunderstorm's As We Die Alone.

Ea are some pretty epic funeral doom, more growly but huge sound.

Could also try Doom: VS they/he is very dark but very good too :)

I had the same problem but then one day Epicus Doomicus Metallicus just clicked and it's one of my favourite albums ever since. I don't have no problems with getting into (good) epic doom anymore.

If Isole doesn't get you into epic doom, nothing will.

To be completely fair, I love that album. But that's just one.

Forget everything you have ever heard of doom, forget all the recs in this thread. Just listen to Solstice's Lamentations. One of the greatest slabs of doom I've ever heard.
