So this is a different kind of request,i guess...

Been born in the 70's and still listening to metal,to every kind known to mankind.Allthough i enjoy a portion of nowadays thrash/death/whatever i do find myself always getting back to music made in the 80's(NOT talking Hair metal here lol)...Don't know why but i have the strange idea metal in those days was made from the heart and not with a dollarsign in the eyes...

Just because i enjoy that kind of music more then "modern" metal i know a shitload of bands from that era,but it's impossible to name them all here offcourse

But I'm pretty sure the metalguru's here will prove me wrong,so please be my guest.

So long story short:Looking for metal from that era,not many people know off,but are worth a listen,in any genre of metal...

Many,many thanks in advance :D

Dude....do you have any idea how many bands in the 80s there were? And saying you're looking for metal is really really general. What are you looking for, specifically? Death? Thrash? Black? Heavy? It would also help if you mentioned what bands you already know and like, that way people can recommend something that you will probably like, instead of them just wasting your time. This thread might be locked too.

One somewhat unpopular band that I like is Master. They're not super amazing but "On The Seventh Day God Created...Master" is a Death Metal gem in my opinion. You should also check out the Swedish and Finnish death metal scene during that time, some really kickass stuff came out during that time (at least I THINK the Swedish and Finnish DM scene came out in the 80s, if not, they really sounded like they did.)

Here is a test:
Fall of Because - Life is Easy

I think it's metal, but then again, a good portion of what I think is metal is not on the archives.

Any 80s Death? Any Bathory? Any early Sepultura? This stuff is all very well known, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many subgenres present today that started in the early-mid 80s, and some that even had their heyday during that time period.

It's hard for a child of the 70s to not be familiar with those bands.

Sacred Reich?
Xentrix?
Heathen?
Coroner?
Toxik?
Sabbat?
Forbidden/Forbidden Evil?

Very Thrashy, and not that 80's even. But hey, I guess it's better than nothing.

Laaz Rockit was an underrated band in my opinion.

I too like the 80's metal music a lot more than newer metal music. Omen was a pretty cool band too, check them out.

Armored Saint, while not exactly unknown, are quite underrated. Check Delirious Nomad and Symbol of Salvation.

Get Jag Panzer's Ample Destruction, it's probably my favorite Heavy Metal album ever.

No, in fact, it's more about discovering hidden gems from past and present.
