hi there,
I'm looking for Death Metal or Brutal Death bands that sound like Morbid Angel, Nile, Vital Remains... You know, atmospheric passages, occasional keyboards, mysticism, tales about the Ancient Ones (heheh), good complex riffing, growled vocals, but without losing brutality or aggression (I mean, no atmospheric melodic clean voices doomdeath or melodeath). Something powerful yet enthralling. Hope you can help me, people. Thanks!

two bands come to mind:
depresy from slovakia, very nice atmospheric death with great growls.
wicked innocence from us, quite brutal stuff with a lot of atmosphere.

Try Septic Flesh, "Sumerian Demons" being their best album imo, great atmosphere also.

I second Depresy, Septich Flesh also fits the bill at least on their heavier records.

Necros Christos might be to your liking too. And, of course, early Therion, especially Beyond Sanctorum.

Ulcerate.

You take the jagged angular riffs from Morbid Angel with an extra sense for dissonance a la later-period Gorguts, and stick it all in an atmospheric blender. That's Ulcerate. They've only got two albums out and a demo compilation, but 2009's Everything Is Fire is an outstanding piece of death metal. I highly recommend that band.

Fucking NOCTURNUS.

They fit every criterion.

Mithras and Nocturnus both fit the bill quite nicely. Both are awesome, worth checking out.

Septic Flesh is decent, albeit a bit overrated.

 @ whoever recommended Gojira- did you even read the OP?

At least Gojira is weird. I mean, seriously, who the fuck puts a FLYING WHALE as an album cover? It reminds me of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Musically however, being the straightforward, non-atmospheric DM band that they are, they're nothing like what the OP is looking for.

Mystifier, although labeled black, is exactly what you are looking for.

Why has THE CHASM not been mentioned yet? The single most epic, mystical death metal band in existence.
