All the bands listed as "similar" to them really aren't. They may be symphonic metal, or also have fantasy themes, but they sound very, very different.

So, any suggestions for good mid-paced symphonic metal (please) with clean female soprano vocals? Not operatic (double please).

Have you ever listened to Dakesis? The vocalist sounds similar to Sara Squadrani.

I've come across them before, but your descr made me listen more intently. out of three off vids on youtube, two had double bass throughout and the other was a ballad, so not sure where the "mid-tempo" comes from... they're ok tho.

they remind me of 80s Heart, mostly :D

you might like Lunatica: http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Lunatica/7284

I am listening to Wildpath (http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Wildpath/42610) these days and I've noticed some similarities with Ancient Bards. The first album (Nyx Secrets) is the only one without operatic vocals, give it a try.

To me the french band Kerion is very similar to Ancient Bards.

Wow, Kerion is pretty good. Going to check them out. Dakesis isn't bad either, but don't seem like something I would like based on their YouTube videos.

So far I've gotten a couple of good recommendations. I'd like to change my request based on that.

Anyone got any faster paced stuff?

Thanks! A bit on the cheesy side, but I'll give them a go too.
