Hello everyone,

so, a quick introduction : I'm a huge Death/Black Metal fan for some years now. My top bands, to point some of them, are Immolation, Immortal, Nile, Death - and the list goes on.

I NEVER got into Heavy Metal since I'm listening to, well, Metal. The ambiance, the riffs, the "softness" compared to Death and Black Metal weren't for me, something was lacking.

However, I tried Heavens Gate "Livin' in Hysteria" a week ago. And bam, like a revelation, I just can't get my hears off it. I can't even listen to Death and Black anymore, and I'm not exagerating. I've also borrowed from my father "Under Jolly Roger" from Running Wild, and even if I'm not in shock like for Heavens Gate, I love it so much.

So, the point is : I want to discover Heavy Metal. I must say : Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, I tried them again, and it didn't work, just like before.
I would like listening to bands sounding at least a bit like Heavens Gate or Running Wild, as they got me like nothing.
Basically, a Heavy Metal with epicness, a bit fast and melodic.

One more thing : I'm not allergic to Power Metal and that sort of thing. I'm okay with all of this, except maybe if there only is a female voice. I love women, don't worry, but I have a hard time appreciating them in voices. But hey, I could try it anyway.

Thank you for your answers in advance, and have a good day !

Your taste sound similar to mine. Therefore I recommend to you...

and...

These were basically my introductions to Power Metal I love (the Blind Guardian being the exact song that got me into them).

As for something stylistically a little more similar to Heaven's Gate...

Two more obvious mentions for "heavy" Heavy/Power Metal would be

Grave Digger

and

Brocas Helm

You might want to mention what albums you tried by each band.

Thank you for all your answers ! So far, among all your titles, Brocas Helm, Blind Guardian and Falconer really kept my attention high.
I know Stargazer by Rainbow though, it's one of the favorites albums from my father. I heard (and loved) it since I'm a child.

Cvac : So far, I tried the last two albums from Iron Maiden, plus A Matter of Life and Death (I know it's quite recent, don't know where it is exactly in their discography). It wasn't boring, but as I said, there missed something to gain my attention.
And Judas Priest, tried Painkiller, Defender of Faith. Same as Iron Maiden, basically. It may be a question of ambiance. Or I'm a just a total hipster !

Thank again.

I wouldn't mind more recommandations, eh. But then again, you're free to do any :)

Greetings.

If you have time to listen the Crystal Logic by Manilla Road, and with Running Wild my suggestion is to go a couple of decades back in time to find the Gates to Purgatory.

Heavy metal in my very personal opinion would not exist without this two albums.

If you're going to get into Maiden and Priest, start with some of their BEST stuff, not random albums and later stuff.

For Judas Priest: try Stained Class first, then go backwards to Sin After Sin and Sad Wings of Destiny.

For Maiden, keep in mind that they had two different singers early on. The Bruce era in the 80s is classic stuff but the first two albums with Paul Di'Anno are amazing and often ignored. I suggest trying one album with each singer and seeing if you like either of those before dismissing Maiden altogether.

For Di'Anno era, try the debut album. If you like that, move on to Killers.

For Bruce, try Piece of Mind, it's the one that got me hooked when I was younger. If you like that, go back to Number of the Beast, then get Powerslave, then the rest of the 80s stuff.

When it comes to Maiden, there's a difference between 80's Maiden and 21st century Maiden. Don't write the new stuff off because they're not 'classic' albums. 'A Matter of Life and Death' was actually the album that got me into Maiden.

Someone above mentioned Metal Church, but they didn't list what IMO may be two of the best metal songs ever written, on their best album.
