My newfound interest in getting to know bands from Greece, urged me to seek recommendations.

Firewind, Sceptic Flesh and Rotting Christ are those I've heard before, and enjoyed.

Any good bands from this country. Uniqueness is a bonus.

For some good Black Metal, check out Legion of Doom, The Shadow Order, Ravenbanner, Wodulf, Gauntlet's Sword, Stutthof, Darkthule, Acherontas. I was into these bands for a 2-3 months last year when I discovered Legion of Doom and decided to check out some other greek black metal.

I've been listening to Flames - Merciless Slaughter recently. Awesome old school speed/thrash from Greece. \m/

Crush "Kingdom Of The Kings" - an EPIC metal masterpiece. Don't be discouraged by the year of release - this is easily comparable to the best material from Omen, Manilla Road or Cirith Ungol. And the guitar melodies and solos are just a volcanic eruption of awesomesauce.

Horrified - Deus Diabolus Inversus is a damn fine piece of Greek death metal. The one review for the album compares it to Sumerian Daemons by Septic Flesh; I'm not familiar with Septic Flesh, so I'm not sure how accurate the comparison is, but I do know that Horrified are good.

Sickening Horror!

Very jagged, eerie, cold, even progressive death metal.

And I second both Dead Congregation and Inveracity.

Nightrage is pretty good, you should check them out if you like Melodeath.

NOCTERNITY! God, I can't recommend this band enough. Absolutely brilliant black metal band. Try out their album Onyx, which is by far their best release. They make use of a very thin production tone, but have this treble-y atmosphere that more than anything creates these huge soundscapes rather than any clear segments of music. Killer vocals, great riffs (albeit a bit hard to find sometimes), excellent mature song-writing and just some of the most amazing melodies you will hear from a black metal band.
