Alestorm is a given. What else is great background in which to drink with buddies?

Motörhead are highly recommended, just like Tom Angelripper's solo albums (especially the debut), which are basically Motörhead worship with lyrics about beer.

Slough Feg and Brocas Helm also work rather well as booze-up background music, mostly because their weird and chaotic style suggests that the musicians were drunk.

I don't drink, but Korpiklaani have done numerous songs pertaining to drinking/partying with friends. Not so much on their recent album, but the ones before it are lightly soaked in booze, so to speak. :P

I recommend Deströyer 666 for reasons that should be abundantly clear when you listen to them. :)

Tankard indeed!
When you're pretty drunk and in a cheesy mood, anything by Accept or Manowar will do as well for sure ;)

And Opeth make me drink as well, but that's for other reasons obviously hehe

when boozing out with friends, we usually kick things off with a bit of Deep Purple, Maiden, Priest, then move towards more of Obituary, CBT, Slayer, Sepultura...etc. Mostly varies with the mood and the location/place most definitely matters... songs with grooves, slow/crushing pace with chunks of rhythm splattered all over. Generally a mixture of bands thrown in... Oh, and...booze rules! haha!

I would recommend stuff like Alabama Thunderpussy (especially their most recent album, Open Fire), Spiritual Beggars, Black Label Society, Kyuss, Down and while not metal, the Rebel Meets Rebel album with David Allen Coe is great for swigging back a few pints of lager

What about Onkel Tom Angelripper?

Thrash metal drinking songs in German! You can't beat that.

while TANKARD is possibly the king of all drinknig metal, i'd have to rate STEELPREACHER (ger) pretty highly. songs like "Metal Hangover" and "Boozehounds from Hell" are pretty suitably themed.

I'll drink to anything. :( BUUUUT ... This thread reminds me of Witchfinder General's 'Invisible Hate'.

Killing Is My Business...and Business Is Good! - Megadeth

Such a great drinking album if you wanna slam some whiskey.

Nattefrost is great if you wanna have a really pissed off beer drinking party.

For some reason, Peste Noir is good drinking music when you're down..

Albeit NSBM, Slave Whipping Blasphemy is a good drinking band too.

Mayhem's "Deathcrush" is pretty cool too.

Darkthrone's latest release is pretty cool for beer drinking :D

Hope this helps!

EDIT - I know, it's not metal, but I couldn't help but put "L.A. Woman" and "Morrison Hotel" from The Doors. Great whiskey music.

Cruachan has got some songs that are pretty much just Celtic drinking songs set to metal (a la Some Say the Devil is Dead).

But seconding/thirding/whatever Onkel Tom and Tankard. Can't beat those two.

I personally find any kind of metal is good music to drink to.

I'd say Thrash, and Death metal are probably the best as their the most intense. Black Metal would be good too, but I'd probably just pass out while drinking to it.

Gwar is probably my favorite tho

I find Running Wild to be great stuff to drink to. Fast, German speed metal, with most of their albums after the second one having a pirate theme makes for great party music.

NWOBHM is fucking excellent as a genre all-round for drinking. the 70s hard rock/boogie influences, sweet melodies, guitar leads, and 'rock n roll' subject matter, and often upbeat feel (bar the doom/thrashier bands) are an excellent complement.
