Hi there

I'm looking for atmospheric black metal, or folk inspired BM such as;

Blut Aus Nord - I really appreciate the dream-like atmosphere they create, particularly on Ultima Thulée, Fathers of the Icy Age, and the the recent Dialogue with the Stars. It's melodic, yet always sounds different somehow.

Wolves in the Throne Room - as weird as it sounds, to me they create a similar, dreamy atmosphere. It's not so much droning, I just find it very vivid..

Klabautamann - Albiet folky, they also have a very atmospheric sound to them in their own way.

Apologies if it's a bit vague, I'm just looking for anything dreamy sounding, melodic (in a folk, melancholy way as opposed to a cheesy-goth keyboard kind of way) and interesting.

Thanks :)

There is a similar thread by eugenics that is still fairly fresh. You could try checking out the bands listed in that thread.

Here is a few you may or may not have listened to: Astral Luminous, Catamenia, ColdWorld, Dark Fortress, Forgotten Land (US), Gris, Summoning (especially Nightshade Forests), Velvet Cacoon, Vesperian Sorrow.

There's a few you can check into ;o...A lot of that has ambient influences, it's kind of what I like.

You've probably heard of Alcest but a few more are Svafnir (Ger), and you might like Mirkwood. For atmospheric black metal look into Darkspace and Verdunkeln.

Second this completely. While Margi Sakalai is a little less on the black metal side than his earlier works, I happen to prefer that album out of the material he released. The folk elements are done really tastefully and the metal aspects, while still being firmly rooted in black metal, have a slight doomish sound to them. Ir Nusinešė Saulę Miškai is also really great and has a much more black ambient feel to it.

Algaion, Moonfrost, Forgotten Woods (just amazing), Forest of Fog, Krallice, Mystic Forest (very melodic), Troll, Raventale (think Burzum meets Drudkh), Marblebog, Darkwoods My Betrothed (the album "Autumn roars thunder"), Ancient Wisdom (classic), Ashen Light (Something tells me you're going to like "Pesn Velesa" - it's very folky and melodic)
