Hey, I'm looking for some folk like the faster songs on Elvenkings new album. They can be more, or even less, metal what I'm caring about is the prominent vocals, and instruments such as violin. Sounding less metal and more like a band such as Jethro Tull would also be another good thing.

Sahti-waari by Turisas is a fast song with amazing violins, same for Fields of Gold

Igni Gena by Schelmish and the Folkstone cover are amazing instrumental songs with bagpipes

Not exactly what you're looking for, but check out Devil In The Kitchen. Very speedy American folk metal with a a prominent fiddle (not violin). Unfortunately it's also all instrumental, sorry. Still may be worth checking out.

Holy shit this is awesome. Do you know if they are still selling the EP off their site?

Try some folk punk maybe? Andrew Jackson Jihad and Ghost Mice are pretty good, not sure if they're what you're looking for though...

If you are going to try folk punk don't forget Dropkick Murphys or Flogging Molly.

I'm not sure actually. You can download it, though. ;)

Thanks for all the ideas.

Devil In The Kitchen is awesome, if they had a vocalist this is exactly what I would be looking for. As for folk/punk I'll have to look into that because it sounds like what I may be looking for. I of course know of, and like, Korpiklaani but what I'm looking for here is stuff with cleaner vocals.

Skyclad plays pretty fast on many of their songs throughout the years and features the folk sound that you desire.

MÃ¥negarm also plays pretty fast, but their material will vary in terms of the folk sound. Many of the faster songs are driven more by the guitars than the folk instruments, but they are still great songs and don't lose their folkiness.

Elivagar (Ger) plays Melodic Death infused Folk Metal and kicks all sorts of ass. They'll often feature the guitars for a verse/chorus and then switch up the next verse or chorus with folk instrumentation/guitars.

Jackdaw and Mutiny are better than both of those.

I doubt if this will help, but early Ensiferum stuff has a nice balance of folk elements and pseudo-death metal characteristics. I could also recommend TYR, but i don't think they're very fast if that's what you're looking for.

Falconer is sort of folkish though their songs may not be fast enough for you (then again, Elvenking's songs were never too fast either). Alestorm MIGHT qualify and there is a good chance you will like it regardless.

Oden Organ is another that MIGHT qualify.

Kromlek might be an option, very polka-style fast folk...:)
