Kinda offtopic, but the hardcore thread is long buried and I doubt it'd have fit anyway...

Saw Ringworm play last night. Christ, my ears hurt now.

On that note: Bands that sound similar? Mostly the insane vocals and mashup of thrash/hardcore/DM elements.

I've played with them 3 times. Twice when they had Mike from 50/50 on bass and once without. They literally fucking destroyed everything each time. So I was very upset to hear that Frank decided he didn't want to continue on with Dave.

Since you've probably heard of Integrity, I'd recommend Agitator's Walls Closing In EP. Lot of metallic riffing and beatdown hardcore elements. Vocalist ain't as crazy as Human Furnace but they're still plenty heavy.

Oh yeah, I forgot you've played a good bit of gigs around that scene. That's badass man, I hope I can catch them whenever they start gigging with the new lineup. What's 54R up to nowadays?

You asked at the perfect time. Marshal finally finished up vocals for our new ep that I recorded the music for last year... basically we are getting back on the ball about recording and releasing shit.

I completed all the mixing for it and will finish loading the album to bandcamp and i was going to actually post a link about that when it was all completed. The ep will be pressed to a limited number on cd. a hundred hand numbered copies. We'll be taking preorders that will come with some buttons specifically made for it and whatever Kamikaze Pilots demos that i have left. basically first come first serve.

thanks for asking! I didn't think anyone remembered or knew exactly who I played for...even if had meantioned it before. lol.

Awesome! I've liked what I've heard so far, so I'm looking forward to this. I remember rexxz introducing me to y'all's music way back in the day, and then you told me about the band a little whenever I PM'ed you about his whereabouts a little while back.

Check out Day of Mourning. Aren't as crazy as Ringworm, but they're still pretty damn good, and their Your Future's End EP has guest vocals from Human Furnace and Dwid from Integrity.

Thoughts on the new Wormrot EP anyone? Scion A/V put it out for free on their site. Pretty ripping stuff. Got to say I enjoy the EP format much more for grindcore. 20 songs in 20 minutes fails to hold my attention as effectively as, say, 10 songs in 10 minutes a la' Gridlink.

I'm really new to Grindcore, and thought I'd like to give it a try.
I tried going through it on my own, but I kept coming across songs that a were a minute or two and less.
Is that what grindcore is? or are there any grindcore bands that write songs 3 minutes or longer songs?
If there are, could you suggest some? Thanks.
Sorry if I sound like an idiot..

I haven't been paying much attention lately. If someone could whip up a short list of their favorite grind/goregrind/PV albums of 2011 that would be great.

Most bands write 2mins or less. if you don't like that then grindcore probably isn't for you.

The only band that I can think of that still falls under grindcore would be Napalm Death. and really their stuff that is over 3 minutes long isn't really grind.

If only GL would stop pretending that their releases are full-lengths and charging as such.

Weekend Nachos - Worthless
Gridlink - Orphan
Noisear - Subvert The Dominant Paradigm
Wormrot - Noise EP

Nails - Unsilent Death is also worth mentioning though it came out in 2010. Holy crap that shit's heavy.

Gravemarker, check out Sex Prisoner's 7". Probably the heaviest, filthiest powerviolence to come out recently. That and the Despise You/ANb split that finally got released. It's nothing THAT mindblowing, but still definitely worth hearing.

Didn't California Love release a split with Gehenna last year?

Or maybe I'm thinking of a different band. Who knows.

Seconding anything put out by Sex Prisoner, DT80K, and Archagathus (especially those LPs that dontlivefastjustdie mentioned), and I'm not sure if they came out this year or last but that 7" that Worlds released is awesome if you're into noisy, dissonant grind (Assuck's old vocalist is handling the vocals), and of course the Lycanthrophy LP if you haven't heard it yet. I'm sure there's a few I'm missing, this year has been good for grind/hardcore fans.

ALSO, Hatred Surge are now on the archives. Awesome.

I really don't hear much metal in their sound, really. Maybe their side of the Mammoth Grinder split, but it's pretty much just straight powerviolence other than that.

Worlds

I just remember when I played with them both they sounded the exact same aside from the vocals.

That worlds is fucking awesome I need to track that shit down for sure.

Yeah, Worlds is awesome. My band played a show in Chattanooga this past summer, and I got to talking with one of the local bands' guitarists about the band. Apparently they're recording something else that should be out soon, other than that they're just playing around northern Florida with Assholeparade and other Gainesville bands. Can't wait to hear what's next, I love their style of extremely raw, pummeling grind that borders on noise. Pair that with those awesome vocals and you have a winning combo in my book.

EDIT: BTW, for those who've heard it, how's that new Wormrot EP? I didn't even know they were putting anything else out this year.

Short and fast, loud and catchy. Excellent stuff. Check it for yourself. Scion A/V has a free download link on their site.

Ah, another Scion release. I think it's cool what they're doing for some of these bands like Magrudergrind, New Lows, and now Wormrot. MG got a lot of flack for having them put out that last EP and were accused of being sellouts which is something I don't get. If a label came up to me and asked if they could record a release for us at no charge, I'd be all over it.

EDIT: Another question: my searches have come up empty...anyone familiar with the Irish hardcore band Crowd Control? They put out a killer 7" and LP this year or last, and I haven't heard much of anything out of them since, not even about touring or playing shows anywhere. Anyone who is into bands like Nails or Mind Eraser would probably dig the shit out of them. The full-length they put out recently is streaming on their SoundCloud page.

Honestly, just listen to Blasphemy/Conqueror/Revenge and the like. Not grind but it does everything you're asking for.

Scion's infiltration of grind was brought up by the professor today in my journalism class. Seriously.

And that is why Parlamentarisk Sodomi was one of the greatest grind bands to exist in these past few years.

That's pretty cool though "infiltration" is a pretty loaded word to use. How did that tie into the lecture exactly?

Scion's infiltration of grind was brought up by the professor today in my journalism class. Seriously.

That's pretty cool though "infiltration" is a pretty loaded word to use. How did that tie into the lecture exactly?

Well it's a journalism/mass media class. He brought it up I guess to show us a different way of advertising and seemed to get a kick out of some of Repulsion's song titles. I got to talk about Magrudergrind and all the shit they got last year. Here's the article he referenced, if you're interested.

Interesting article and an incredibly interesting story overall. My question, though, has always been how does Scion manage to afford this and what do they get out of (what seems to me like) giving free handouts to non-mainstream bands? They're questions more suited to marketing (a subject I wish I had more knowledge about) but did your professor say anything about that matter?

He seemed to think it was a kind of dumb way to advertise, and laughed as if he was right all along when I told him that nobody into grindcore is buying Scions because of all the free shit they do.
