This is my favorite part of the whole thing. Scion is doing all this (admittedly awesome) stuff to endear themselves to a community that (generally speaking) is made up of people who cannot afford their product. I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth and I hope great bands keep taking advantage of the opportunities, but I've got to assume it won't be long before Scion pulls the plug and finds a new scheme.

Any excuse to talk to a professor about the nuances of Repulsion would be fantastic.

Haha he really just seemed fascinated by a band that would have a song named "Splattered Cadavers."

Thanks for being so specific. Check out Hummingbird of Death - Goatmeal.

Considering the responses to this, there is a joke I'm missing but I don't care. I just checked out Hummingbird of Death and they rule. So much energy!

Haha the songs on the Goatmeal 5" are super short which is why it's funny. HoD are the jam... Diagnosis: Delicious and the I Accuse! split are my favorite.

Yeah, I'm gonna look into their previous work soon enough. I started with Show Us The Meaning Of Haste and was impressed by the catchy, almost melodic aspects that were present, without any aggression being sacrificed. That sense of melody is something that can really make a band stand out for me.

Death Toll 80K are fucking ridiculous. Why did I not discover these guys sooner? No longer sad that Insect Warfare is no longer with us; got Death Toll 80K instead. Goddamn this is good grind.

Then you'll like all their stuff. Lots of catchy parts just played at a billion mph. Their drummer does vocals too.

Checked into Wormrot's new EP today, and honestly I think it's the best thing they've done thus far. Seriously, not only do I feel it to be their most ferocious release to date, but one of the last songs (can't remember what the title is) served me a delicious treat as it had one of the best nods to GISM I've heard in the past five or so years. Actually, when it came on I thought I was listening to a GISM cover. Kudos to Wormrot for that.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I feel shorter album formats work a lot better for Wormrot. Don't get me wrong, I like their full-lengths well enough, though to me, the complete effort feels a lot stronger on their EPs and splits.

Yep.

Nope. Try listening to some Fuck I'm Dead, Nasum, Regurgitate or Insect Warfare. Quality shit right there. You'll get used to the short tracks.

I agree with this sentiment for grindcore as a whole. 10 to 15 minute (10 to 12 songs) releases are perfect for me. Noise is a bit on the short side at 5 minutes though that's fine because I can always listen to it again. it's catchy, why the fuck not? I'd rather rape the replay button 4 times over than listen to 20 or so songs in 20 minutes which all begin sounding the same halfway in anyways. The songs blur together and some of that initial energy is lost. Frankly I get bored. I like my grindcore like my liquor, in short but potent shots.

On an unrelated note, there's a new Punch EP out. Here's a sample song. Shit rips. I would dropkick babies to this.

It's pretty fucking solid. And possibly one of the angriest sounding releases I've heard. It's like mainlining napalm. My only real complaint is that everything pretty much sounds the same, but it sounds pretty goddamn good. I think To Live A Lie still have some copies if you're interested.

It is, it really is. I just listened to it again, and it's not as samey as I initially thought. But goddamn. The vocalist sounds like he's just snapped is now about to kill fucking everyone.

Any Trash Talk fans here? New EP is killer. Not a fan? You will be after listening to this. As usual, ignore the shitty YouTube comments.

That Bear Trap just fucked my world up. I haven't been listening to grind/pv at all for the past few months and that made me want to break out all my standbys. Currently torturing co-workers with Jesus Crost hahahah.

Glad to see people enjoying Bear Trap.

And speaking of To Live A Lie releases, anyone here into Backslider? I got their first 7" and it's pretty cool shit.

And Trash Talk are a band I've always enjoyed, I've just never really listened to any of their releases.

Backslider is the JAM! Killer fastcore stuff. Logan's band before Backslider called Raw Sewage was also rad.

I'll definitely have to look into it. The 7" has been getting many plays lately. That, the two Extortion splits I have and Deconstruct. Goddammit, buying a record player was the best decision I've made in a while.

Cellgraft"s split with Drainland kicks ass.

Anyway, I'm here to look for not that well-known PV bands like Cyborg Justice or Weak Minds. Or sludgy grind like In Disgust or Stillbirth (the Canadian one, i hate the German).

TLAL is awesome:

Magnum Force - Self-Loathing 7"
Get Destroyed - Shut In 7"
Sidetracked - Uniform 7"

...and for sludgy powerviolence stuff look into a band from Ireland named Crowd Control, awesome stuff. Their last full-length should still be streaming on their Soundcloud page.

For the sludgiest, vilest powerviolence, Su19b from Japan. Seriously. Think Grief playing Crossed Out. Also look into the band Osk if you haven't already. Some quality grind jams from those dudes for sure.

Here's a video for one of their songs. Apparently members of Massgrave are in the band too. I got their split with War Hero and it's pretty damn solid shit.
