Can someone recommend me stuff similar to Water Torture's "Pillbox" album? I really like how the guitar(bass?) tone is so fucking heavy and how they incorporate lots of slower sections, almost like some sort of powerviolence/sludge hybrid.

The only band I know that is somewhat similar is Weekend Nachos which I haven't been able to get into

Cosmic Vortes - shameless early ND worship

Embolism - ...and We All Hate Ourselves
Great album!

Psychotic Despair -- Words For Empty Spaces

Flagitious Idiosyncrasy in the Dilapidation - japanese grind, somewhat more noisy than ND but still got the same vibe if you ask me

Nails - You Will Never Be One of Use - Grind/powerviolence

Some newer grind i've been listening to.

New ROT EP! hell yeah!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcE_aAgmtjU

The Coffin Birth & Shitgrinder 10" split
CB side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcFxdxqKjf8
SG side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4n9Nx4HCp4

Parlamentarisk Sodomi & BxSxRx LP split

The Grind Bastards Vol 10 compilation has also been released, lots of new japanese grind (and UG of course) and a new War Master song.(Texas band)
And what i think is a previously unreleased 7" split between Violent Headache and Freaknation.
Fuck on the Beach also released a new album called Today is Start. (not grind but awesome)

Anyone know any goregrind with a Mortician flair? I know Bile and that's all.

Oh lookie here, someone just asked for a Morticianite band. Durrr... Bile? Strongly recommend Camp Blood. Super heavy with a teeny tiny touch of Reek of Putrefaction.

Well hate is a strong word, disliked is more like it.
I like grindcore that is raw and punk and deathgrind that is raw/sloppy and messed up.
If i put it this way, Unholy Grave and all bands that ripped off Agathocles rules my record collection. :)

Deathgrind like this:
Malicious Hate https://youtu.be/TdwIxzBnZaI?t=141
or weird bizarre stuff like this: Carbonized https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7vyfWAJkUQ

I disagree. They might not fit in the exact shape, but they are so close, depending on specific recordings, that it should appeal to some looking for new stuff, unless you just have a problem with groove, or higher pitched growls, and have to have non stop blast beats going perpetually, without end.

Let's keep it civil guys, no need for that.

Checked out Living Sacrifice and Zao as I hadn't given those two a fair chance. Pretty good stuff esp. Zao.

Sorry for the name calling, but seriously, where is my flaw? Have you heard these bands? And are you aware that some recordings from a certain band may be closer to a specified genre than other recordings by the same band? Or you don't agree that genres can easily breakdown, overlap, and blur sometimes? So if I'm clueless, explain it to me, since you're the master of metal. Or can you only call out with no substance to back it up? What is grind, then? Enlighten me.

IamDBR, Zao slants toward Metalcore and has higher pitched vocals, which are good. Living Sacrifice's 'Inhabit' and 'Nonexistent' are closer to grindcore, and EXTREMELY brutal. The only thing is the vocals, which are polarizing, lol. Interested to hear what you think.

Most of these bands employ blast beats, and growls/ screams, etc., and songwriting that identifies with grind. But admittedly, may have a different 'feel', nontheless. And other characteristics such as industrial, hardcore, etc.

Yeah, Zao is an original metalcore gem before the genre got watered down...hard. Living Sacrifice is all over the place, they have thrash, death, grindcore, metalcore so I need to dig deeper into their stuff before I can make a proper decision.

Also about your question on grindcore (if it is pointed towards me in the first place) Grindcore is like a clusterfuck (I mean that in the best way possible) of thrash & death metal, crust & hardcore punk. It usually has these characteristics:

1. Very fast tempos with little to no variations; mainly blastbeats with some thrash beats in between
2. High pitched screaming, sometimes shouting and growling is utilized too
3. Typically short songs (also called micro-songs)
4. Simplistic downtuned riffing (unlike death metal's generally more technical guitar styles)
5. Political lyrics
6. Unorganized, frantic and chaotic songwriting

This is 'normal' grindcore...at least from what I have observed.

Now things get a little tricky when you add a more noticeable death metal influence to form 'deathgrind'. Then you have stuff like goregrind, pornogrind, cybergrind which, to be honest, I'm not too sure myself.

Edit: correcting a typo

Also let's put this thing to rest and discuss about the music itself. Any bands similar to Zao?

To understand what grindcore is, you have to start in the beginning.

Bands like these, 0% metal 100% fast noisy hardcore.
Cyanamid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFx65WlLNc0
G-Anx https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6M5MS8yS5w
Brigado Do Ódio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VouLhEJEflI

And to those who really want to check out Grindcore should start with the real classics and stay away from the Relapse bands.

Cripple Bastards, Rot, Agathocles, Unholy Grave, Violent Headache, Dahmer, Blood, Patareni, Gibbed, Nyctophobic, Warsore, Egrogsid, Denak, I.R.F., Impetigo, Brutal Glöckel Terror, Ulcerous Phlegm, Noiseslaughter, Senseless Apocalypse, Excreted Alive, Demisor, Entrails Massacre, Realized, Psychoneurosis, Grossmember, Ipekakuana, Ulcerrhoea, Sewn Shut, Arsedestroyer, Nojsbojs, Tumor, W.B.I., Buka, Psychotic Noise, Incisive, Rottest Slag, Anarchus, Ventilator, Necrophiliacs, Proyecta Terror, Vivisection, Excruciating Terror, Extreme Decay.

Listen to more Warsore kids! :-D
