Im looking for songs that are fast paced and melancholic. Im not a big fan of depressing slow dirges.

This Insomnium song captures what I really want. Im fine with slow passages in the song, but I prefer the more aggressive sounds.

Khors, maybe?:

Also worth a try, though even less like your example:

There's always cheesy 90's/00's sympho BM stuff, too. There's a whole world of fast, melancholic bands from that time, though they were certainly not all created equal.

How about a power metal longshot? It still sounds a little like your example!
(the lyrics are often wrong though :grumble: )

I considered suggesting some EPM, but I am not well-versed enough in it to give many good suggestions.

I've always thought Blind Guardian had some exceptionally deep-yet-speedy songs, though. The definitely don't sound like the band in the OP, but I think it's worth looking into their 90's albums for some examples if you haven't before (it's like a rite of passage for young PM fans, I think, TBH). I say the 90's albums only because I never heard anything after "Nightfall" except "A Night at the Opera", which came out not long before I decided I was through with Power Metal.

Time What Is Time is a great song. In fact, it's one of the BG songs that recently got my back into them and other EPM groups after many years of insisting I was over them and completely done with the genre, and that only Crass is real! Really overwhelming and beautiful song, I think, yet it's mostly a total rager after the intro. I can't believe I forgot how good it was for so many years.
