Try Rigger's "Der Wanderer". It's heavier, but it's quite good..
Belenos are also good.. But i dunno man, they are quite heavier than Wolfchant and Northland :|

Belenos is pretty underrated, I think. The latest couple albums can stand up to the likes of Drudkh, Walknut, Burzum, etc.

Every band that has the label of Folk/Celtic Metal is underrated, by the so-called black metal community...

True, except the latest Belenos albums (not sure about the earlier ones) don't sound at all like folk or Celtic metal. It sounds like black metal with some Viking choir vocals mixed in.

Mmhmhmh... Maybe you should check out Elvenking power-folk from Italy

In other Note I just found a pretty decent peruvian folk band, Ch'aska...

I second Wolfchant, they're almost suspiciously similar to Ensiferum and are pure quality. "A Pagan Storm" is a must-listen.

I'm listening to Kroda for the first time and REALLY enjoying it. The mixture of solid, heavy metal with "natural" sounding folk is really clicking well-and I really like the good production on "By a Hammer of Spirit and Identity of Blood." (As well as the long song lengths.) Is there any other folk metal like this?

I like bands like early Falkenbach, black/folk metal, but I also like his new stuff, with more more folk oriented songs. Fjoergyn- this band really impressed me, I thought it would be something like flower metal (just look at the cover), Heidevolk, Kromlek, Lönndom, Windir, Bathory (fuck yes) and the Kukulcan stuff, a very rare band, they are original, and yes, it's fucking harsh, with bad production

Yes, the first Fjoergyn CD is very impressive. The second one isn't nearly as good, but that first album blew me away.

You should also check out Die Saat if you haven't already. The main guy from Fjoergyn is also the main guy in Die Saat (though Die Saat is split up now). The second and third albums are excellent (the third sounds closest to Fjoergyn because of the better production quality), but their releases are hard to find. Great band.

Well, as for Folk/Viking, does anyone know of any bands similar to Tyr. I rather enjoy the vocals as compared with many others of the same genre. I could go for something a bit more folk and less metal, though. I like the varied Faroese/English lyrics, too.

Try Crom's Vengeance. Less metal than Týr, I would say, and quite a lot more folk-orientated. It's a German band but the lyrics are all in English. The vocals will be right up your alley.

You might like the newest Glittertind album, "Landkjenning." Probably not the older stuff, though, which is less folk.

Turisas are a bit like this, Heidevolk as well. Bathory is also a good recommendation for vocals, him singing on Shores In Flames is just...well beautiful.

Holy shit, this Crom band is really ace. I am enjoying this - perfect mixture of viking triumph and solemn sorrow. The vocals are really good, too!

Less metal than Tyr? I like Tyr and all, but that statement is wrong.

That release is absolutely amazing. I didn't know about it until a few months ago and I decided to see how many people voted for it in the Best of 2008 thread. It turns out there was not one single vote for "Vengeance". I am sure it was due to exposure though.

I think a big bonus with Crom is that it is just one man. I always love those kinds of projects. It's also funny to think that Crom used to be in Dark Fortress.

Wow, that's incredible. I really didn't know he did all the recording himself. His voice is just awesome, too. Just an amazing one-man band.

You think it's more? I'm interested to hear your opinion. I think it depends on what Týr album one is comparing it to. Overall, it might be too close to call.

Yeah, the Crom stuff is very Bathory influenced with riffs of steel, whereas Tyr bring in a lot of prog rock influences and are generally less straightforward and guitar-heavy. I haven't heard every Tyr album, but Crom are definitely more traditional metal-influenced if nothing else.

All the Tyr albums (apart from the latest) were all written (for the most part) by Heri Joensen (lead vocals/guitar) and he is a huge Pink Floyd and Dream Theater fan which apparently has influenced his music writing tremendously (lately he's been listening to Amon Amarth, which probably explains the fastest Tyr album yet). As for Crom he has specifically stated his favorite band is Bathory, which probably explains the Bathory influence over his music, though I hear more of a power metal influence than Bathory.

Yeah, it was released towards the end of the year on a tiny label, so I think the combination of those two things caused it to be easily overlooked.

I'm looking for albums/songs from any band that resembles that cheery folk metal sound. One that you can get drunk with friends and sing-along, or yell-along to upon listen. Some songs for example, to clear things up, are Ensiferum's Guardians of Fate, and Goblin's Dance. Those group yells are just way too fun. Something along those lines. Thanks in advance.

Ah, an easy request!

Eluveitie, especially the Slania album.
Korpiklaani, obviously, although I generally can't stand them.
Heidevolk, fun Dutch.
Equilibrium, I like to call them dance folk :)

I'll second Heidevolk, particularly the songs "Saksenland" and "Vulgaris Magistralis" (easy to sing along to even if you don't speak Dutch. ;) )

I am looking for folk metal bands with only clean vocals.
Basically because I am a bit tired of the harsh vocals, because I have been listening to metal for a very long time.

I suggest trying Heidevolk, Ereb Altor and Storm.
