Hey people, I'm looking for Doom that is a bit more on the catchier side, like Witchfinder General's Death Penalty, or the faster stuff byReverend Bizarre (first songs off Crush the Insects for example).

Lord Vicar is another good example for what I'm looking for: The last off the Demon of Freedom EP (Running into a Burning House), Fear No Pain (Born of A Jackal, A Man Called Horse), and the entire Signs Of Osiris album (although it partly is a bit too, uhm, whiney for my tastes).

Not exactly sure what to call this substyle, to be honest. I'd naively call it heavy NWOBHM/Blues influence, but really don't know much about that.

Edit: I'm aware of Cathedral & co, but this always felt a bit too cheesy/saccarine for my tastes.
On the other hand, there is Briton Rites for example, which is quite similar in style/sound, but is not that good or interesting, sadly.

Thinking of these, among others:

Devil
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEU8t7y4XGk

Ice Dragon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1ut_iXlRIg

Spirit Caravan
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExsrTuTIkrM

The Hidden Hand
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3HrGfr8ZDk

El Hijo de la Aurora
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mmrm38tRdMY

and the one that springs to mind for something more nwobhm influenced, Pÿlon

Spirit Caravan sound like later Pentagram, and the singer reminds me of the guy in Place of Skulls, pretty cool. Devil is also pretty heavy, checked out some youtube recommendations from them, I like it.

Hidden Hand, Hijo de.... , Ice Dragon, Hour of 13 & The Wizar'd are not quite what I'm looking for...

I actually know Pylon, their previous was not bad, although a bit underdeveloped. Don't like the album from which you posted the song, much less interesting.

PS:
There were some mentions in the chat, like Briton rites & Wandering midget. Have not heard them in a while, I remember them as a less interesting Rev. Biz. Need to check out their newer material though, I guess. Gates of Slumber (Hymns of Blood & Thunder) were mentioned, too, they seem pretty good, albeit a bit slow.

Solitude Aeternus however is completely off, reminds me of Candlemass, which I ironically never really got into. Funny how tastes vary.

it's a rare occasion when I discover a new band that gets me excited, the fact that I found two within the same day is miraculous... (me posting on this thread is also rare :D)

have a listen:

are you kidding, dude? P-e-n-t-a-g-r-a-m! Broken Vows, City Romance, they're chokers full of catchy songs!

Black Sabbath's Hole in the Sky, Hour of 13's Naked Star, Sheavy's What's Up Mr. Zero?

Well, if I'mnot mistaken, 'cause I'mnot a regular trad doom listener, the guy is called Wino and sings in various bands, the most well-known being Saint Vitus.... So yes, no surprise that he reminds you of the singer of PoS, since it's him too! :D

another rec for you, if you like it rock'nroll: Venomous Maximus; their albums are quite well balanced with faster and slower numbers, but always with a lot of energy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJcQSkhjp9w

and Nomand Son for the nwobhm-tinged project, it's faster and rougher than Candlemass, so maybe you'll like them more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfeZRRy7IeU

Victor Griffin is not Wino... If that's what you're implying.

Dautha is the new doom band of Ola Blomkvist. I know there's some Griftegård fans here so maybe you'll like it.

But did you like it, Dooms? I ordered a copy because it looked worth owning - silly I know - not because I liked the song that much to be honest. It sounds underproduced rather than retro. Looking forward to checking the other two songs, though.

"Underproduced" has crossed my mind too. But it's a demo and I like the song. Sounds like something Ola would write musically and lyrically (but with a violin). I've asked the drummer to put aside a copy for me.

Cool. I'll probably post in the designated thread when I receive it. It might help them sell a couple more. He's done a great job with the layout, that's for sure.

New Vicar is very easy on the ears, and not a bad album by any means, but it feels like two steps back after Signs of Osiris. Shorter isn't always better.

They streamlined their songwriting a lot for this release, it's pretty good but yeah not as good as their first 2. I'll tackle it alongside a lot of other doom for the upcoming review challenge.

Hi guys and gals, I need help: looking for doom band with a strong gothic vein similar to Swallow The Sun. I neet slow paces, heavy riffs but also an atmospheric touch. I'm not interested with bands like Mournful Congregation or Orange Goblin. Would appreciate any help.

Have you tried the similar artists feature? For a popular band like Swallow the Sun, it works well.

Don't know if it's classified as "doom", but I'm looking for something that kind of sounds like this vocal-wise:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjZ42sWnaeI

The band is called Sirrah. Any baritone type of vocals that aren't super growly (a-la Peter Steele or David Gold?) anything similar?

Abysmal Grief. This song is from their first album. Starting with their third album, the vocalist started using some rasps/growls, but the majority is still clean singing.
Spoiler: show

Funeral Circle. This singer is only on their full length. I don't know what their other singers sound like.
Spoiler: show

EDIT: Fixed link.

What are the most drugged out sludge bands in terms of personnel? Bands full of addicts/former addicts like Eyehategod, Buzzoven, etc.

Are there any epic/traditional doom bands that occasionally use blast beats? The closest I can think of is this Mael Mordha song (circa 2:15-2:45):

- these aren't blast beats, obviously, but those wouldn't sound out of place there at all IMO.

Sort of, only faster/more aggressive and with fiercer/cruder/less polished riffs to back it up. This particular song matches the artwork, I'd say, and what I'm looking for I'd describe as a moment when total doom and destruction are being unleashed upon the unsuspecting targets, so something darker, heavier and, well, doomier. Thanks for the input anyway, much appreciated.

Their new singer is JP Abboud from Borrowed Time, and most recently, Gatekeeper.

Looking for some doom that sounds like: Reverend Bizarre, Obsidian Sea, The Puritan, The Wandering Midget.... they all have relatively similar vocals, and I can't get enough. The slower, the better.

Hey everyone, first post here :) I'm not sure if either of these bands have been suggested yet, but they can never be suggested enough, imo. The Sword, a band from Texas, is one doom/stoner band I've always adored, they have a very oldschool sense about them, drawing heavily from bands like St. Vitus and of course Sabbath. The second one would be the last two albums of Woods of Ypres, a personal favourite band for me. Their earlier stuff were pretty much black metal, but on the latter two, Woods 4 and Grey Skies and Electric Lights, they were really doomy sounding, still retaining a small amount of the black metal, but mostly just doom.

Holy shit is the Shadow Kingdom Records bandcamp a dream come true for doom fans or what? so much cool, obscure epic stuff to be found. Really enjoyed the Majesty in Ruin demo a lot. Weird Light seems really good too. Props to them for making so much forgotten music easily available.

Are there any bands out there that are similar to old-school Katatonia? Like, Dance of December Souls-era Katatonia. The only band I've heard that sounds anything like that is this obscure Spanish band called Pact of Solitude. October Tide's debut isn't too far removed either.
