their debut album is their best. Although frankly I'd rec all of them because they're excellent examples of brutal death metal.

anyone know of any bands that have sort of a riff-laden slow feel to it, like Hail of Bullets or the death metal aspects of Pestapokalypse VI by Belphegor?

Perhaps Asphyx and Autopsy? And of course Bolt Thrower.

Is Slugathor also too obvious? If it is then check Desecrecy which is sort of a continuation of their sound, post-breakup.

Already know, Origin, Hour of Penance, Behemoth, Decapitated and Man Must Die

Thanks! :-D

Ulcerate - The Destroyers of All. John Longstreth who drums for Origin has drummed on a lot of other albums, Angelcorpse - Exterminate probably being a favorite. Sarpanitum is a Nile soundalike with pretty fast drums. Hate Eternal, early Exmortem, Brain Drill if you really want to go over the top. Inevitable End also. Rebaelliun for some South American brutality.

I second Hate Eternal. It's not the most imaginative band, but sometimes hits the spot just perfectly.

Hi guys, lately I been listening to a lot Black Metal, but now I want to get back to my beloved Death Metal, This time with some good Progressive Death Metal, something like Augury or Barren Earth. Nothing really techy but more focused in the progression and the structure of the songs. So, no Necrophagist please.

My fav Prog/Death acts are Kalisia, Augury, Barren Earth and Symbyosis. Bands that have a good amount of Atmosphere, Progression and Brutality, everything in a perfect balance. More bands like that are welcome!

Thanks.

MickeyC recommended Codeon here, wich it was interesting, but not really what I was looking for, I found the band Persefone myself, wich I recommend to anyone who is looking for good Progressive Death Metal :-P

I liked Bloodstone alot, but I am the only one that thinks Goatwhore may have ripped them off alittle? It's not the exact same, but Goatwhore really emulated Hour of the Gate if you ask me...

And don't get me wrong, I do enjoy Goatwhore. Just making an observation.

If you are replying to my post, I can see a CF influence, but it's alot faster than them. I just hear alot of Goatwhore in the rhythms and writing style.

I originally posted this as its own thread but got told to post it here instead:

Are there any bands who sound like At the Gates. I use Blinded By Fear because I wanna know if there are bands that use vocals like they do in that particular song.

Cheers in advance

(and to the guy who thought i was trollin' I want obscure bands more specifically)

Gates of Ishtar is really similar, especially "At Dusk and Forever".

Revocation are about as good as a metalcore band... So in other words, they suck. IMO.

Good for you! They also happen to be pretty relevant to what colin040 was looking for, hence my recommendation, but good job on recommending something that fit his request much better. I'm sure he appreciates it.

I'm a fan of both bands. I might say check out Iniquity's Five Across the Eyes, Anasarca's Moribund, Dead Congregation, Diamanthian's Arcana Doctrina (their other album is very good too, just a little different), the War Master album...

all of these have the kind of "flowing" and "rolling" guitar work that I value in Panzerchrist and God Dethroned to some extent (depends on the album). War Master are just good Bolt Thrower worship, but I think BT have it going on a bit as well.

I admittedly have very little experience with OSDM, but can you guys recommend me some progressive, fruity 90s death metal albums? I'm looking for something like Edge of Sanity, or Atheist if you exclude the jazz tendencies and time signature/tempo changes the latter band uses. I'm also not looking for anything sorrowful - I'd prefer it to be melodic but not particularly sad, with a spacey, floaty sort of atmosphere.

This song is basically the template I'm going off of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDNgjJfuLOE

Hmm... not quite fruity, but maybe Mangled Torsos? More akin to Spectral Sorrows era Edge of Sanity. Nonetheless I suggest you give them a go. More of a straight OSDM band with underlying melodies and a slower acoustic interlude towards the middle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iy3ZdfLb ... re=related

EDIT: Maybe give Eucharist a go as well too, more melodeath than anything, at times reminds me of mid-era EoS. Not quite right on with your template band there, however.

Greetings!
Looking for some stuff and I would love some recommendations from you guys...

I'm looking for albums like Bloodbath's "Nightmares Made Flesh" and Dismember's "Like an Ever Flowing Stream", in the way that they have great death metal guitar riffs, but also have a lot of melodic parts that kinda move away from the "brutal" and show some fine writing and composing skills. Albums that have songs that are, let's say first half a normal, fast paced death metal song and second half a slow melodic instumental, with nice melodies or solos; or albums with several instumentals are prefered. Mind you, I'm talking about old school death metal, real death metal, please, no melodeath, no black/death, no brutal, tech, whatever... Just death metal!

Second, does anyone know the longest death metal songs... again, death metal, don't say Opeth... also what about surprisingly short songs?

OK, please help out a little, and thanks in advance...

I think Vital Remains' last two albums is what you're looking for.

Do you know anything that sounds quite similar to Autopsy's "Macabre Eternal"? I'm having a hard time getting into death metal at all, but I'm kind of digging that record. Similar production sound and sound quality would be cool.

Sounds like you're looking for something like The Chasm's Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm. Doomy death metal with some melodies thrown in here and there alongside some long, well composed songs.
