More albums like Drawn And Quartered's debut To Kill Is Human? Death metal in the style of Immolation, raw but meaty production (especially important is an organic sound - no overt polishing or triggering) with bonky snare and mean vocals.

Anyone got some decent brutal/slam death recommendations? Preferably old school stuff (pre-2000's), but any time period is cool if it doesn't suck. Not a big fan of tech stuff, so straightforward, brain-deadness is perfectly fine. Been listening to a lot of Sintury, Prophecy, Devourment, etc. lately if that's any help.

I'm assuming you know Dehumanized, Deprecated and Cinerary already? If not get on it. Another rec is Digested Flesh from Jersey, their full-length has kind of an old school sound to it, not overly technical, plenty of slammin': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bjcf1_5ktCg

Embryonic Devourment is pretty nuts, don't think they've been mentioned yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tgo8J6Ogyf4

Love it. Thanks!

Yes actually, I meant to thank you for Hedonistic Exility! Never heard of them before.
I've already listened to and loved that Diskreet album. Definitely one of my favorites in recent tech death. Burning the Masses as well, (best breakdown ever?)
There's something about the production on the Abiotic song that I couldn't really get in to. Not exactly sure what it is that's putting me off because the song as written sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.

Thanks again, everyone!

Check out Disciples Of Mockery and for an unusal recommendation: Aeternus - A Darker Monument. With this record they tried the Immolation/Bolt Thrower path without the epic Black Metal elements.

I don't think you'll find much. Try Fear Factory's Soul of a New Machine though.

Good rec. Maybe try Pre Mortem's False Gleam, too.

Hypocrisy's The Fourth Dimension has some use of cleans as well, but I agree that it won't be an easy thing to find.

I'm looking for some no bullshit death metal with some serious groove. I'm talking like Obituary, Jungle Rot, or even Dying Fetus. Dyscarnate's And So It Came to Pass is on its billionth spin right now, if that helps pare down what I'm looking for.

EDIT: Nothing obvious, please. Thanks in advance.

Everything from Master and Deathstrike. Very straight forward and simple Death Metal.

Also Sepultura - Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions come to my mind, together with Hellhammer - Apocalyptic Raids and early Celtic Frost (Morbid Tales, Dethroned Emperor). HH and CF were a big inspiration in the beginning for Obituary by the way.

Can someone recommend a brutal or technical death metal that does not focus much too much on gore? Somewhat similar to Skinless's Trample the Weak or Abnormality's new album?

Don't be confused by the name as Deadly Remains are not a 'gore band'.

Deadly Remains - Severed Humanity (2012)

Also:

Sectu - Gerra (and Inundate)
Abysmal Dawn - Leveling The Plane Of Existence, Programmed To Consume
Beyond Creation - The Aura
Calm Hatchery - Sacrilege Of Humanity
Neuraxis - Asylon

Ancient Necrospy. Their debut have some gory overtones but later albums lyrically dealt with aliens, Egyptian mythology, and other interesting topics. Musically, they resemble early Kataklysm and Cryptopsy. Good shit.

Can anyone rec any bands that worshipped the Dutch masterpiece Consuming Impulse? Similarly agonizing vocals to Martin would be a plus too.

Not exactly interested in aliens and stuff, but I'm looking into it.

Btw, the "s" goes after the p "Necropsy". Took me a while to find the band on this site.

Vader have been pretty consistent throughout their career. There's a few bumps in it but that will vary from person to person. De Profundis and Litany are arguably their best works.

Hello. Could someone recommend me some GRAND death metal band(s) (or record[s]) which have an own unique personality. To give you an idea, my favorite bands are Autopsy, early Suffocation, early Immolation and I am totally nuts about records like "The red..." by At the gates, the first cryptopsy album, "tomb" by CC, "obscura" by gorguts, the first krisiun LP, "legion" by deicide, "unquestionable..." by atheist etc. So - as you can see - i am kinda picky. Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know of any death/thrash similar to Legion of the Damned? Y'know, death metal with thrash metal licks and higher pitched Kreator style vocals with the occasional bellowing growl.

I have two finnish death metal bands which may interest you!

The first one is Napoleon Skullfukk. Heavy, groovy, midpaced stuff with awesome vocals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqijqym2S6I

The second one is Defiled Icon. They remind me of Napoleon Skullfukk so yeah. Their new EP Laskeuma is beast, can't find any songs in YT but it's in Spotify

and I already know about their previous incarnation, not too fond of them.
Thanks anyways though

For stuff like Legion of the Damned maybe Torture Squad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ6KKlU4WtI

And Deathchain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwpKvWJFqQo

I would also recommend Get Fucking Slaughtered by Ravage though there are no samples of it on youtube except a live song with rubbish quality.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVEtVLrd7G0

Has a couple reviews averaging 95% though.

Do check out Nephelium's debut album - Coils of Entropy.

Really catchy, raw death metal which appeals to both my old school and new school death metal sensibilities. The solos remind me a bit of Death and the vocals are just filthy. Do check them out.

I believe they're doing well in the Toronto scene and might plan a US tour later this year.

Nice suggestion. Listening to 'Coils' now and was previously unfamiliar with Nephelium, so thanks. :)

I'm always on the hunt for quality BDM bands I've yet to become familiar with.

does anyone know of any death metal with Anti-Christian lyrics? And not like the Aeon, Belphegor, Vital Remains, Deicide 'fuck Jesus' stuff but more of the intelligently written stuff like Behemoth or Hate.
Also not looking for satanic stuff necessarily, just anti-Christian.

^ Adding Arghoslent to that list. However, not all of their lyrics are anti-christian, mostly inclined towards race.

Can anyone recommend some death metal with most/all riffs played at the high end of the guitar's register? I'm not interested in melodeath but anything else is fine.
