Thanks for the recs, they are all quite good. I was doing a little research myself and came across Nocturnus` 'The Key' and I found it to be awesome. Is there any other bands like this, especially with the interesting keyboard work: http://youtu.be/SeEnSqaoQuk

I'm hoping to find some more old school technical/atmospheric/avant-garde type death metal bands. I don't want any Suffocation clones or overly br00tal blasterbation, but stuff along the lines of Szygial Miscreancy, The Red In the Sky is Ours, Soulside Journey, ...In Pains, Toddessehnsucht, Nespithe, Dawn of Dreams, etc..., any help would be appreciated.

I second everything here apart from Babylon Sad which I find really dull and uninspired. I'll also add Rhadamantys.

Really? :( I like them quite a bit; I guess that's just, like, your opinion, man. And yeah, check out Rhadamantys too while you're at it.

And if you like Nespithe, you might as well check out Biolich, who are a Demilich clone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6VS6-RWshw

Eh, yes I know it's just my opinion. I just said that I agreed on all recs apart from the one I think isn't worth it. :p

Wow guys, thanks a lot for those, every single one of them (including Babylon Sad, awesome music, creepy pedophile lyrics though), exactly what I have been looking for. Timeghoul was probably my favorite of the lot, but they were all great. Now I have to see if I can find them without breaking the bank...

I have Erosion of Sanity and North From Here, both albums that meet the specifications, I'll check out the others though, thanks.

BTW, these bands don't all have to be older bands, I'm definitely open to hearing newer bands playing in this style too. As long as the atmosphere and feel is similar, I'm game.

That will prove hard for Disaffected and Phlebotomized... Expensive as hell! :annoyed:

I still lack physical copies of those two because of that tiny detail...

There's always Infinitum Obscure.

Recommend me some death metal with obnoxiously metallic, ringy snare sounds. Stylewise, I don't like nonsense slam like Abominable Putridity much; I prefer to hear some great tremolo riffs every now and then.

Give Splatterhouse's "The House that Dead Built" a shot. Snare sound should be what you're looking for and stylistically they tread towards Carcass/Exhumed worship. Killer band and record.

Could you recommend some tracks/albums/bands sounding like this track? I mean the fast part of the track.

Hi peeps,

Anything like None So Vile? What I'm more specifically looking for is the stand out bass and demented vocals.
And whatever it is, it has to be agressive and dark, not really looking for the late era Death style of dm right now.
Something I seem to add everytime I ask for a rec, but I can't stress enough, is the voice: it has to be powerful, I don't want a half-assed one-tone-range vocalist who sounds more like a heavy smoker than a growler.

I already know Abaddon Incarnate (if you don't, go check their album The Last Supper, it's great), but don't be afraid to recommend obvious stuff.

Wicked Innocence's Omnipotence. Cool cleans, gutturals, and shrieks. The guy has the same style as Lord Worm - pure insanity - but not necessarily the same 'sound' so to speak. Not to mention a shit load of atmosphere.

Dripping's Disintegration... is an obvious one, but always good. The super lows might turn you off, but the shrieks and other noises the band makes are the right kind of weird.

Nuclear Death featured some absolutely insane sounding female vocals, Lori Bravo sounds totally unhinged on their first two albums (more insane but less low on the first). The music is really noisy and chaotic, which isn't exactly the same as Cryptopsy, but hopefully the vocals will satisfy. Also, it may seem obvious because they're contemporaries, but Kataklysm's work with Sylvain Houde was pretty chaotic death metal, though more melodic than Cryptopsy. The vocals are pretty ridiculous though, not quite as varied as Lord Worm's, but definitely insane sounding.

Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
Execration - Odes to the Occult
Molested - Blod Draum
Stargazer - The Scream That Tore The Sky
The Wakedead Gathering - Tenements of Ephemera

Hey Fellas, looking for some good Death Metal recs. Similar to bands Origin, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, Aborted, Hate Eternal, Misery Index, Beneath The Massacre etc. I know there are a few different genres in those bands, but any similar recommendations would be great. Cheers.

Dark Heresy's only album "Abstract Principles Taken To Their Logical Extremes" should meet your requirements nicely. A great album of technical death metal with touches of avantgarde doom.

Damn guys, the recommendations just keep coming, thank you. The only one since my last reply that I'm familiar with is Blod Draum, which is fucking awesome, like almost all old Norwegian death metal, so I'll start checking all of these out.

You would probably enjoy most of the stuff on the Willowtip records roster. They have a decent website and free samples of nearly all of their releases http://www.willowtip.com/

For a specific rec. give Dyscarnate from the UK a go.

Cheers Hay, thanks for the rec. I saw Nasum play in Sydney a couple of weeks ago and Dyscarnate were the support band. Very talent players, man they're fast.

Any other suggestions from anyone?

Already knew Nuclear Death, some truly demented stuff indeed!

Didn't really dig into the two other bands, they kind of lack the dynamism and the bass on the front I was looking for. The trippy one was cool though, it might grow on me with time.

Thanks for your recommendations anyways, if ye've got more keep'em coming.

Hour of Penance is a band you're likely to very much enjoy. If you're into classical themes, give Fleshgod Apocalypse a go.

I suspect you might like Weeping Birth, as well.

There's probably many more I could rec, but I can't think of them right now. I hope you enjoy those.

Hey MikeyC, just listened to Weeping Birth, that's right up my alley, thanks for the rec.

I've been into Hour of Penance and Fleshgod Apocalypse for a few years. I see HoP have a new album this year, I'll have to grab that one. I was a bit disappointed with FA's Agony album. I really liked Oracles and the Mafia EP, but on Agony they just went overboard with the symphonic stuff. The new HoP should be a balltearer though. Yew!

I actually really like Agony. They did go all-out in the symphonic elements, but that works for me, so I hope they do continue like that. Oracles and Mafia are great, too.

Glad you like Weeping Birth, mate. :)

I sometimes enjoy listening to that Agony album because of some really good ideas that are on that album, but when you compare it to Oracles, you'll realize it's totally below FA's standards. The whole album is musically way to unbalanced, the essence lays too much with the symphonic elements, which makes the guitars totally fade into nothingness.. Drums are actually the worst thing on the album. Continuous double bass racket in the back + symphonics + extreme and clean vocals, that's all you hear on this album. Kind of a shame, an okay album by itself if it were from another band, but a big fail for Fleshgod Apocalypse actually. Hope they do better with their next.

Currently enjoying Skinless' Progression Towards Evil; the goofy lyrics and ridiculous intros totally make it for me.

I think you are looking for Grave http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cULPDkG5Fq8
Also, check out Puteraeon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9EhCGDpwrk

I have a request that I don't know exactly how to phrase. I'm looking for pretty standard, straight forward death metal that isn't exactly OSDM worship, nor too modern and clean sounding, but not too old and dusty sounding either. Basically, I'm looking for anything that sounds like Beneath Grow Lights by Cannibus Corpse or Leveling by Abysmal Dawn. Thanks!

I'm looking for stuff very much like Spawn Of Possession's "Incurso." Fast, brutal, technical, but also horrifying and strange. Long songs and conceptual albums are also a plus.

Songs aren't necessarily long but you might enjoy either album from Gigan.

The songs are not long but I definitely get a ''horrifying'' feel from Chapters Of Repugnance by Defeated Sanity. Especialy if you read the lyrics while listening. There is some what of a conceptual idea to the album as well. Extremely technical and beyond brutal.
