Do you guys know any epic, bombastic death metal with a thing for melodic solos? Think Morbid Angel's G album, only with leads more in the vein of Death's.

Maybe the Project Hate's Lustrate Process album. It's certainly epic and bombastic and has some pretty awesome soloing.

Hahaha well I tried. How about Aeternam's Disciples Of The Unseen? It's very middle eastern sounding though.

That's always a plus in my book.

Right now listening to Angel Horned, and I gotta say that, while not exactly what I was looking for, this is indeed very good and fits the bill well. Thanks man!

Glad you like it, Canada has so many damn good bands. I didn't want to recommend anything really obvious cause you seem pretty knowledgable about the style already.

I wouldn't say that I'm knowledgeable about death metal (I'm much more intimate with thrash, actually), but if we're talking about the big names (both the "celebrities" like Death or sort-of-underdogs such as Asphyx), then yes, I'd say I know pretty much everyone.

And yes, Canada is metal as hell. None So Vile belongs to a Canadian band after all! :headbang:

looking for a song that has clearly defined black and death sections separate. Not like blackened death, belphegor type stuff. something with a complete black section and death section. not sure if that exists

You could try Spawn Of Possession, Brain Drill, or Man Must Die. Or, if you want some really good, blistering heavy technical shit that pounds your face in, too, I would go with:

Monumental Torment.

Element of Chaos (2011) is excellent.

Anyone know any death metal like Acts of the Unspeakable by Autopsy? It's my favourite album by them, I love how filthy it sounds, Shitfun is really good as well. Only thing I have found that has the same sort of really fucking filthy atmosphere is the demos by Vomepotro. Anyone know anything else like this? I tried making a thread about it before, but it got locked before I got any responses, because apparently it can be done in here *rage*

Twin_guitar_attack
Overly obvious but it can't hurt to try I guess. Abscess, The Ravenous (Assembled in Blasphemy album), and Impetigo.

Burial from the Netherlands comes to mind. The vocalist has some insane shrieks and their guitars have a perfect OSDM tone to them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou2nrOEmgu0

Looking for bands very similar to Aurora Borealis. It's hard to find recommendations from services like Last FM since there are numerous other bands by the same name, many of them non-metal.

I'm looking for some technical death metal similar to Necrophagist's "Onset of Putrefaction"; lots of soloing, not too heavy guitars. Brutal/technical death metal tend to bother me quite fast, så I don't want stuff like Suffocation, Hour of Penance and Nile nor complete wank like Brain Drill.

Another tech-death album I'm really fond of is Pavor's "Furioso".

I'm sorry if this is a little vague, but I hope some of you can help me.

Look at the post above the one you posted!! Don't know if that's what you're looking for but it's fucking good tech death and not too brutal.

Not really what I'm looking for.. a bit too fast for what I'm looking for.. really Onset of Putrefaction is the only example of what I'm looking for, that I know of.

Are you familiar with Spawn Of Possession? Or their weaker clone, Visceral Bleeding? Both seem to fit your request, more or less.

Have been thinking about checking out SoP, sounds Nike I have to now. What album would you recommend, both by SoP and Visceral Bleeding?

If you're keen on some Necrophagist noodling then Noctambulant is the way to go, but Cabinet is not to be dismissed since it's very good as well. It's a bit more direct in composition and less spastic, if you know what I mean. For Visceral Bleeding try Transcend Into Ferocity.

Fans of death metal need to check out the Australian based Nails of Imposition. Archives says they formed in 2007, but their first release last year makes them relatively new. They mix alot of old school progressive Immolation influences with Dying Fetus styled deathgrind riffage. I have been really getting into these dudes the last week or so.

I've been listening to Decameron - My Shadow, it's so fucking great. Can you guys rec me some similar bands. So really midpaced melodic death/black with good riffs and legit vocals.

I'm a huge OSDM fan, but I could not for the life of me get into Asphyx's "Death...The Brutal Way".
The only track I really liked was Scorbutics.

So, should I bother picking up Deathhammer?

I would download and see if you like it first. About half way through the album now and I'm loving it, it's very similar to The Rack.

The only thing I can think of coming close to that kind of sprawling, intricate song structure is the debut of Opeth  which I'm sure you've heard. Probably my favourite of theirs though, as it seems to be less pretentious compared to the rest of their catalogue.

Another band I will recommend to you though is Misery's Omen from here in Australia. Some quite interesting stuff to be found on the Hope Dies full length. Some extremely twisting, turning song craft. Only two youtube links to be found, and they're both not a good representation of their material.

Speaking of Opeth, which album would you guys recommend I start from? I'm not too into progressive or melodic elements in death metal, which is why I never gave'em a spin.

Orchid is pretty much the only worthwhile album. If you like sad prog rock, Damnation is quite ok.

I wouldn't go that far, but yeah, it's the best album to get into them if you're already into more extreme stuff (especially Swedeath), as the extreme metal elements are more prominent there than in any other release by them, and I'd go so far as to say that it shares quite a bit with black metal in the atmosphere department. Also, Poisonfume; don't approach Opeth as a death metal band, and don't even refer to them as "extreme progressive metal". They just happen to have some death metal elements in their formula.

Honestly, I like all of Opeth's albums in varying degrees (except Deliverance. What the fuck Opeth?). But some of their clean interludes (especially the one in Blackwater Park) last wayyyyyy too long.

Noted. I knew from the image the band conveys that I wasn't in for my usual traditional death metal. I am very inexperienced in the field of progressive metal in general, but I'm very open minded with my subgenres. I just want to see what the hype is about, with a chance of discovering a band I possibly may like.

I'll give Orchid and Blackwater Park a spin and see.
