Not less known, but in deathcore (barely), Infant Annihilator's vocalist has a wide-ranging style.

Scott Jensen of Dawn of Demise is pretty unique.

The guy in Purgatory has a unique growl.

Imo IA transcends the whole deathcore scene. Also, DoD & Purgatory are killer shit!

Other bands with interesting/unique vocals are:

The Red Chord (Deathgrind/Deathcore): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHno2Hm60sA

Killitorous (Technical Deathgrind): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YflBqKgLyks

Inquisition (Progressive Black Metal): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2TgehDuBOU

The Banner (Crust/Hardcore): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hjl7czZPA3U

Absu (Black/Thrash Metal): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IykHu47u4I

Everybody check out Voices:

Progressive Black/Death Metal from UK with demented screams/growls, operatic clean singing & intriguing songwriting. Very original & innovative sound.

I'm looking for bands that sound like Prophecy Of Doom, at least the vocal style, with the echoes and everything.

The closest one i've come across is the first Subsanity EP

But no deathcore, pig squeals, overproduced and technical stuff please. The older the better.
Thanks in advance!

And some old 90's Japanese Death Metal to stop this deathcore madness!

This is somewhat similar I believe:

Edit: This motherfucker was recorded in '86 but released in '91. Fucking insane by modern standards but back then it would've have been some groundbreaking shit, 'proto-war' metal I guess :-D Also all the later albums are killer shit as well!

Nice! The vocals are not as weird, but the echoes are there, good enough! Many thanks.

Looking for brutal or slam (< is there a difference?) dm bands that aren't slow, and if any of them are a lil more on the dm side than the brutal/slam side (but still are considered brutal or slam) tell it to me please. I haven't checked many yet but all I found slow down on the vocal parts and after the vocal speed up. I want them to maintain the speed.

@ IamDBR, maybe I should have mentioned that I'm pretty much allergic to clean vocals in Death Metal songs, so that pretty much disqualifies Cattle Decapitation in my book. I love their energy but all that energy just goes out the window whit those clean vocals.

Aborted, I love Aborted but knew about them since before.

You may not be sold on King Parrot but I just frigging love those dudes! They are a find in my book. Shit on the liver ageeeein! Ha ha, aussie weirdos,

Death core, not my cup of tea, black metal a little more so and Anaal Nathrak was pretty good, the vocals was, indeed, unique, just as I asked for.

@ Smitty. Purgatory! Love them! The vocals aren't maybe that unique but my, it feels like they can move a mountain. Solid band.

I'm probably the last person in the metal community to discover Putrid Pile, but I've been banging my head to their (his?) album Collection of Butchery all day. Earlier I've heard one or two Putrid Pile songs but skipped over them pretty quick, but the songs on this album is just impossible to skip. The songs range from mig tempo to blazing speed, and they are good either way. I'm not really clear on the difference between brutal death and slam either, but Putrid Pile has been called both, so I guess they would qualify.

@ Coog: If Cattle Decapitation's new shit (the last 2 albums to be precise) isn't working for you then try the older stuff.

Also I made another list if you haven't checked it, please do. Plenty of good shit in there as well. Still glad you found some new bands to listen to!

Thank y'all

I probably haven't noticed before, it seems most brutal/slam bands sound technical? Is that so? Cause now they sound too technical for my taste. I was hoping for something like [Nothing written before] Death Metal with just the vocals being slam or brutal.

The speed is better than the stuff I found but the instrumentals sound so damn repetitive, the first suggestion sounds a bit better (both are good but not the stuff I wanted) but still isn't the band I wanted, really like the vocals (tho, so far all bands had good enough vocals)

It's hard to explain or compare but those clock-like/maracas-like sounds in technical stuff are what annoys me

I have that Nahu album, also their split with Sete Star Sept! (mostly for the SSS side), may have some other release too, not sure.
But it's not bad, could be better but also worse. :-D

Another band that don't get mentioned enough is Odious Sanction, distilled anger the form of death metal mixed with hardcore, very intense!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B23NVEIsv3U Note: This is from the Unique Leader reissue (and a different mix because it sound different from the self released version)
This is from the original release: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22Ftc9WLzYE (same song, i think the entire album in this mix is on youtube, the unique leader mix is not.)

The Unique Leader reissue sound much better.
And on the subject of Death metal and Hardcore. Beanflipper from Australia! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN6E5RvJ6Wk
Groovy stuff. :headbang:

Any death metal bands (preferably old school and old school brutal death) with a lot of bouncy, thunderous rhythms (with frequent use of toms in the drumming) amidst chaotic blast beating a la classic Deicide?

Graveside should be up your alley. Only released one album, but it is solid.

I'd also recommend Luciferion if you don't know them. Their first album should be along the lines of what you are looking for.

Maybe Disastrous Murmur as well

Oh, and try Obscenity. Their debut is really good. Another example of an OSDM band playing very close to brutal death. May not be 'bouncy' enough for you though.

I'm all about blast beats in death metal, nothing but pure velocity, so here's a few recs. This first portion is a lot of the more raw, guttural blasting stuff, super high velocity and a pingy snare sound usually

-Brodequin
-Orchidectomy
-Disgorge
-Liturgy
-Cinerary
-Neurogenic
-Amputated Genitals
-Gutrot
-Ecchymosis
-Pustulated
-Excoriation
-Internal Suffering
-Putridity
-Guttural Secrete
-Tools of Torture
-Blaze Inside
-Mental Apraxia
-Menstrual Disconsumed

Here's a few BDM bands that are more in the early 2000s style, still fast but not so raw/extreme.

-Pyaemia
-Deprecated
-Inveracity
-Disavowed
-Cenotaph
-Cerebral Effusion
-Incestuous
-Mutilated
-Blasphemer
-Unmerciful

And finally, here's a few that are of a different sort of BDM. The kind that sounds like Hate Eternal and Krisiun. A lot more old school and regular DM vocals, not gutturals. A lot of Polish and Brazilian representation here.

-Rebaelliun
-Chaos Inception
-Hate Storm Annihilation
-Nox
-Ogotay
-Dethroned (from Colorado)
-Nephasth
-Internecine
-Abhorrence
-Pyorrhoea
-Myrkskog
-Demogorgon
-Funeratus
-Magnanimus
-The Ordher
-Totten Korps

No matter your flavor, that should keep you busy for quite a while.

Just to be clear are you looking for thrashy old school death metal or what is it you like about this album? Is Eaten Back to Life another good example of what you're looking for or am I totally off base?

Sorry for getting back to you so late but here are a few suggestions:

Death Strike & early Master

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6LxbiYo-J4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qb26NYw_xyg

Impaler - Charnel Deity

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfnmHcyJHb4

Incubus (Florida) - demo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90VyRDcU4Hg

Monstrosity - Imperial Doom

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8S5PCFJpVk4

Morbid Angel - Abominations

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2EAo90fGzE

Necrophagia - Season of the Dead

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5g6gyeqoN74

Pestilence - Malleus Malificarum

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD7J1uHNgKw

Possessed - Seven Churches

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSRWhqlifhU

early Sepultura

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLvnqKOtJaw

Thanatos - Emerging from the Netherworlds

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m128drR_p20

You probably know most of those but I hope you find something you like.

Disastrous Murmur and Luciferion were ideal, thanks. I must praise the former especially for that meaty drum sound, oh lordy.

I need to let Graveside sink in, production's quite crap.

I'll have a gander at Obscenity sometime soon. Thanks!

Searching for modern sounding death metal bands (not deathcore), as Anaal Nathrakh and Dagoba. (Perhaps a little touch of industrial ? Not sure tho.)

Any Idea ?

Looking for death metal or grindcore that is laden with pinch harmonics and blast beasts. I'm already well aware of malignancy but for some reason they don't overly interest me. I suppose something along the lines of this song by Warfather would be a respectable starting point, although I do think this song lacks the speed i'm really looking for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3bRKL0Lk-c Preferrably something Morbid Angel, Behemoth, or Nile esque but with some more abuse of pinch harmonics.

Perhaps you might like Iniquity? Might not be enough PH's in there for you...

Tranquil Seizure

Drawn and Quartered as well. Suffocating brutal death metal.

Hey guys found Veilburner on the "Worthwhile Albums of 2016" thread, absolutely killer shit:

https://veilburner.bandcamp.com/album/the-obscene-rite

Black/death metal with a plenty of experimentation & fresh ideas. Old horror movie samples, 70s keyboards, creepy synths, unpredictable songwriting, surprising vocal variety etc. The band is a 2-man project formed as recently as 2013 with three fucking full lengths already. I can hear Morbid Angel, Deathspell Omega, Aevangelist, Sulphur Aeon, Nile, Behemoth in there. Awesome stuff all around, do yourselves a favor and check these guys out.

I sent you a pm about that because I think this thread isn't the best place for that huge wall of text.
